The deck has plenty of seating, a barbecue and ample dining table. Mexican saltillo, Talavera tiles, arched windows, large deck and patios add to the southwest ambiance. The home is designed both for gathering and dispersing, so that group members can easily find quiet nooks or places to converge. Easy outdoor living beckons. Ample amenities include wi-fi and satellite TV, games, DVD's, and bird books. Harrier House combines proximity to Patagonia with the serenity and spaciousness of rural living.

You will be just five minutes from Patagonia Lake State Park, one of the world’s premier birding destinations, where the resident Elegant Trogan is regularly added to many birders life lists, along with many unusual southern resident or migrating species. You can swim, fish and boat in Lake Patagonia.

The Nature Conservancy’s Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve, quoted by the Audubon Society as one of the best birding locations in the entire country, is minutes away, along with Tucson Audubon's Paton Center for Hummingbirds. Spectacular Ramsey and Madera Canyon are within easy drives. You will find our collection of nature and birding books very handy!

The biological diversity of the area is highest in the USA, with its sky islands, washes, desert flats and grasslands calling to naturalists, hunters, hikers, bikers and boaters. Patagonia is a Gateway community for the Arizona Trail.

Culture is nearby. The small enchanting town of Patagonia is 7 miles north (great espresso, eateries, art galleries). Nogales with it’s mainstream shopping is 10 miles south. Slightly north are Sonoita and Elgin’s wonderful wineries welcoming tasters (Arizona wine is outstanding) and stables (30 minutes). Tucson is just an hour away), and nearby are Tubac,Tombstone, Bisbee and Karchner Caverns.

You will be sole inhabitants of this beautiful 2200 square foot ranch home and it's 9 acre site.

Your hosts will be in their wilderness home in Alaska, and you will be in local contact with property manager and housekeeper as you need or desire.

Harrier House is a quiet retreat with expansive views across the rolling desert grasslands, inviting birds and other wildlife to venture near. Mountains rise in the distance. Neighbors are remote, yet Harrier House is on a paved road minutes from Nogales and charming Patagonia, and only an hour from Tucson. This region is birders' mecca, horse country, wine country, star-gazers delight, opportunities for bicycles, or a climber's exercise to the top of Mt. Wrightson or easier, Red Mountain. The destinations of Tombstone, Karchner Caverns, Bisbee, Tubac and several golf courses are within drives. Tucson's offerings are too numerous to list here, but a visit to the Desert Museum is well worth the drive! San Rafael Valley and Harshaw are a nearby, spectacular scenic drive. Noteworthy: the Mountain Empire is a flatlander's respite in the hotter months averagine 10 to 20 degrees cooler than Tucson and Phoenix. The Sky Islands are wild yet accessible.

Parking is private, roomy. A car, motorcycle, bicycle or rv is needed to access the region.

Please note: We have a 3 night minimum stay. Although we are on one level, wheelchair accessibility is limited. There is a step down to the living room, and small sliding glass door hurdles and a step down to access deck and Arizona room.

The Harrier House was a perfect secluded gateway amid rolling grasslands. It provided viewing of coyotes moving through the fields, a javelina, and a roadrunner on the gate. The house had comfortable beds and a well stocked kitchen. The water feature and feeding stations around the house provided good birding along with the close proximity to Lake Patagonia.

This is a beautiful home in a beautiful location. I love southern Arizona, especially the high deserts and grasslands near Patagonia. The views were exquisite, we had plenty of room between us and the neighbors, yet we were not too far from civilization/services. Gail stayed in touch with us, and got back to us immediately regarding minor maintenance issues.

Respuesta de Gail:
Thank you Matt, you were wonderful guests, and your communication about those small maintenance issues was invaluable to us, so far away. A little leak in the toilet tank can really add up to water loss over time, and in the desert isn't taken lightly. Thank you for contacting us! We couldn't be more pleased to know that you enjoyed your stay, and we would love to host you again.

We all had a lovely stay at The Corays Harrier House. On my last morning, I sat in the Arizona room enjoying the view with my son eating breakfast and watching the multitude of birds, the names of which I don't know, but enjoy them nonetheless. The last morning, I also enjoyed a beautiful but challenging run this morning through the hilly neighborhood. This home is lovely and immerses you in the peace and quiet of the country. Our first night here, we sat out on the patio at the picnic table enjoying the stars and the sound of the crickets while we ate dinner. Once my in laws came down, we all enjoyed the formal dining room for family dinners. It has been deer 'camp' at its finest! If the home is available for our deer hunt next year, we'd love to stay here again. It has been wonderful to have hot showers and home cooked meals in a warm house instead of sleeping on the ground in a cold tent! All the other guests very much enjoyed their stay as well. Thank you for opening your home to us and providing more than we expected to be able to enjoy our much needed time away from work and city life :)

We divide our time between living a wilderness lifestyle on a vast lake in Alaska in roadless Lake Clark National Park, and Patagonia, Arizona. We are lifelong Alaskans. We fell in love with this area while traveling, hiking and birding here ten years ago. We wanted it to be our winter home now that we have retired from our careers as educators (science and music in Anchorage). We find similarities to Alaska in the scenic grandeur, spaciousness, wildlife, many outdoor opportunities, as well as the warm and delightful people we have found here along with cultural and community opportunities.

This home met our need for a place roomy enough for visiting family and friends, including grandchildren. We love to sit in the Arizona room with glass from ceiling to floor and watch the unique borderland birds come to our feeders, and to watch the harriers from above as they cruise the nearby arroyo. The resident roadrunners are fun to watch. We love that the home is warm, inviting, and welcoming to guests. The views are stunning, the sunsets endlessly entertaining. Every day brings a surprise.
