The large room and 1910 Carpenter style house are great;but the location is sensational! You are two blocks from St. Charles Ave. and the streetcar. You are close to Magazine Street, the French Quarter, the WWII Museum and some great restaurants.

El alojamiento

Spacious front bedroom and balcony on the second floor of a great old home. There is a queen sized bed, large closet, small chest, antique secretary desk, a table and four chairs, and a floor lamp. There is central air and heat throughout the house.
The bath was completely re-modeled after Hurricane Issac with new plumbing, a new shower enclosure and pad, new counter-top, new mirrors and new fixtures. There is no longer a tub however. But it looks much nicer, and works better. The baths are shared.
The house is just two and one-half blocks from a streetcar stop on St. Charles Avenue, which is, by the way, a major parade route during Mardi Gras. Downtown (the CBD) is about a twenty block ride on the St. Charles Streetcar and it is a twenty-six block ride on the streetcar to Canal Street and the historic French Quarter. My home is also close to the shops on Magazine Street. In fact there is an Antique Mall on Magazine Street that is easy walking distance, about 10 blocks. We are also fairly close to Tulane by streetcar. The World War II museum and the Super Dome are no more than 10 minutes away by car or cab, or 20_25 minutes by street car and short walk.
There is great food all over New Orleans and uptown is no exception. Between St. Charles Avenue - Voodoo Barbeque, Slice (Pizza), Copeland's and the Blind Pelican; and Prytania Street - Still Perkin'; and Magazine Street - Stein's Deli, Joey K's, Maya's, several Coffee shops, and Tracy's; there are more than enough culinary experiences to satisfy. All of the places mentioned are less than twenty blocks from the house! For more information on restaurants, consult the Guidebook I have prepared. There will be a copy in your room.
If you love art I highly recommend a visit to the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA). The museum is a good one and has an outstanding collection as well as major traveling exhibits. But the jewel of the museum is the sculpture garden. It is among the best in North America! And it is easy to get to. Just catch the street car on St. Charles and transfer to "City Park" street car on Canal Street. It lets you off at the Museum entrance.
I have a router so there is internet access available throughout the house.
Parking is not usually an issue in this neighborhood, but it is on the street.
Cable TV is now available in the guest bedroom, but you are still welcome to access same downstairs in the front room.
I provide a continental breakfast. There will always be coffee and "something" available for breakfast. Fruit or vegetable juices, cereals and milks are always available. Usually there are also pastries or donuts. Depending on your schedule (and mine), there may be a hot breakfast available, but that is the exception, not the rule. Depending on the time of the year and the shopping schedule, there will be fresh fruit, too! Other than this use each morning, the kitchen is not available.
The standard rate of $90 may not apply for a few special events. Check the price on the Calendar for the dates you are considering.
Usually I host personally, But if for some reason, I am out of town Peter, good friend and housemate, will be your host. In that case please note that Peter works days and is not available for questions or directions. So if Peter is hosting, it is good to touch base in the evenings for information, etc.
I will definitely be there to meet you when you arrive. And I am usually around to answer any question. If you can't find me in the house check the garden in the back.

The neighborhood is being revived and rehabilitated rapidly. Housing values are going up quickly.

Two blocks from St.Charles Avenue where there are streetcars or buses.

There are several collections of Depression Glass to view in the Dining Room. For instance there are over fifty patterns represented in cup and saucer collection.

Servicios y zonas comunes

The whole house is shared with the guests except for Peter's room, my room and the kitchen after breakfast. And kitchen access can usually be arranged; I'm pretty flexible on that.

We loved our stay! Excellent location, close to the action of Magazine St/ Garden District, yet quiet and peaceful. Louis had tons of helpful tips and recommendations. We tried almost all of his restaurant recommendations and all were delicious. We also loved the "Walking New Orleans" book he lent us, which had various walking tours you could do in different areas of the city. We would highly recommend staying here and would love to come back.

Lou is a wonderful host and provided lots of excellent local knowledge, coffee and your very own selection of breakfast and snacks. We were in NOLA for the French Quarter Festival and the Street car is very close to Lou's abode and runs regularly, delivering you right into the centre of town and the excitement of the French Quarter. There are two famous graveyards very nearby too.

The location is excellent. Away from the wonderful madness of the French Quarter and yet easy to get to by Streetcar. It's a 30-40 minute walk to the Quarter or a very short Streetcar ride. The bnb is a 3 minute walk to the St. Charles Ave. Streetcar and the Heart of the Garden District. The room is very private and lovely and spacious and beautifully decorated and super comfortable and AIR CONDITIONED! With a lovely ceiling fan. Cable TV in room and radio, tune in to local NOLA radio stations for full cultural flavor. The bathroom is right next to your bedroom and clean and excellent. A great shower! While the bath is technically "shared" we never had a conflict in use. Frankly, Louis is out quite a bit and we felt like we had the house to ourselves. Louis is very thoughtful, congenial host and lets you have your privacy. You have complete access to the kitchen and Louis provides all kinds of breakfast treats and all the delicious coffee you can drink. Bring food home and store it in the fridge at your pleasure. Louis makes it real easy to come and go as you please at any time of the day or night. A lovely yard to sit and relax in as well as the balcony outside your second floor bedroom and a beautiful front porch. The house is very comfortable and conducive to hanging out and relaxing...except for the fact you are in an amazing city and will want to go out every day and explore it. We, Karen and Nick, can not say enough about how much we enjoyed staying in this house and how easy Louis makes everything. Also, Louis has plenty of great information and literature about all the attractions. Louis can recommend all the local places to eat, drink, have breakfast out if you like. You can't go wrong staying here. Great value all around! Ask Louis for a guided tour of his extraordinary collection of depression era glassware. This AirBnB is excellently situated midway between The French Quarter and Audubon Park/Tulane University on the north edge of the Garden District. PERFECT!!!!

My husband and I were visiting New Orleans for the first time, trying to discover the fun and crazy quirks of this amazing city. We picked Lou's place and we chose right; he is a fantastic host! He's kind, accommodating and friendly. Lou gave us a tour of the place right when we arrived, which was helpful. The room itself is big and bright, with lots of morning sunshine. The amenities are great, and we thought it was very considerate that Lou provides a small breakfast every morning and other basics (milk, bread, etc.) for guests. We drank our coffee in the sunshine in the garden each morning, which was a lovely way to start each day. Lou also left guides and recommendations for places to grab a bite to eat, a drink, or even where you can find the nearest pharmacy. And if asked, he provided more suggestions on what to see around town. From this place in Uptown, you have easy access to the streetcar and you're so close to the beautiful Garden District, which is where we spent much of our time. You can find lots of good neighborhood bars and restaurants around here. This was a great spot for our first trip to New Orleans; we loved the trip so much, we intend to return.

A wonderful host and a great place. The room was much larger than I expected. Louis had to deal with an extremely late arrival of mine and he was extremely accommodating. Highly recommended.

The bedroom is great, and the bed is very comfortable. The house is close to the street car station and Garden District, there is a cute little Cafe about 5 minutes walk that I visited everyday before I did all the sightseeing. Lou is very nice, knows the good restaurants and places to visit. Spent 4 days here and definitely want to come back again.

Louis is the most hospitable host I have ever met. His knowledge of NOLA and all that it offers is nothing less than spectacular. The home had such a welcoming feel and nostalgic atmosphere. My friend and I felt very safe and comfortable during our stay. We will be back!

I am a retired educator who just moved uptown and is renovating an old (built 1903) double that is located a couple of blocks from St. Charles Avenue. My airbnb revenue goes into the ongoing improvements. I live quietly and enjoy reading, cooking, painting, and collecting glass in about that order.
There are several collections of Depression Glass on display in the Dining Room. For instance there are over fifty patterns represented in my cup and saucer collection.
I spent 40 wonderful years in Kansas City, Missouri where I taught and served as an administrator for a high school. Came to New Orleans on a vacation and fell in love with the city. The food, the music, the mild winters, the architecture (especially in the French Quarter), and the people and the way they talk. Even after 4 years of living here, I smile every time I hear someone say they are going to "make groceries."
Love living in New Orleans, (spent the last four years living in the French Quarter). I know the city fairly well and can be helpful to visitors. In fact I love playing "Tour Guide" for family and friends. I try to stay abreast of the restaurant scene in the city, too. Especially the places closest to where I live, so right now I know a great deal about restaurants in the Quarter, and the Marigny. And I am rapidly learning the scene uptown. Witness the Guidebook I am creating for guests.
