Descripción

In its own private wing, this room is peaceful, gracious, bright, and comfortable, with a writer's desk. This is a good room for a guest wishing a retreat. The meditation room is right next door equipped with cushions and yoga mats for your use. The Reading Nook is a cozy place for a quiet cup of tea & cookies available anytime. NO PET GUESTS - no exceptions, sorry!
Please note: This house is in RhineCLIFF, a hamlet of RhineBECK and 2 miles from the center of town and its shops and eateries.

The room has a double bed, A/C, writer's desk, roomy closet, lots of natural light, and a wonderful, serene feeling to it. It is very private & quiet, while only a short distance from the shared bath and right next door to the meditation/yoga room. This is the room my niece chooses to stay in when she visits. NO PETS - please don't ask. UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES WE CAN MAKE A TWIN INFLATABLE BED AVAILABLE IN THE MEDITATION ROOM.

Guests are welcome in kitchen for coffee or tea between 8:00 and 9:30 AM weekdays, 9:00 and 10:30 AM weekends. If you wish more access to the kitchen please discuss your needs honestly with host before booking. Use of the laundry can be arranged at a small surcharge per load. Guests can park safely and legally on the street in front of the house on either side of the front gate. Guests are welcome to use the Meditation Room and upstairs reading nook anytime.
Ordinarily we serve only as a bed-and-coffee-or-tea, not a residential hotel, though we are open to making the room available for retreat or for longer-term rental. The additional service of freshly prepared, organic, vegan cleanse drinks can sometimes be arranged if you wish to accompany your retreat with a cleanse. However, the kitchen is not usually available to guests after morning coffee except when agreed upon prior to reserving. For your retreat you would have access to the meditation room, upstairs reading nook, and of course the bathroom, in addition to your bedroom. PLEASE DISCUSS YOUR NEEDS CLEARLY WITH HOST BEFORE BOOKING SO WE CAN BE SURE WE CAN MEET YOUR NEEDS.

It's up to you! If you prefer to be left to yourself, of course we'll respect your wishes! But if there's anything we can do to make your stay more comfortable, just let us know. If the scheduling works and you have a lot of luggage, we're happy to pick you up at the train station--although it truly is only a couple of blocks away!

There's no other town like Rhinecliff. A tiny hamlet of 200, it has the feel of an old-fashioned resort town, quiet and picturesque. Its residents are a combination of long-time locals and more recent arrivals from the City, many of whom work in the arts. The library just down the street offers music nights, movies, and seminars, as well as books. Here we have the Rhinecliff Hotel that serves breakfast and on weekends and, later in the day, snacks at the bar. There is also a Chinese restaurant 3 blocks from the house. Then just 2 miles away are the fine restaurants, stores, and art house cinema of Rhinebeck. Also nearby: the cultural events of Bard College, the spiritual enrichment of Omega Institute (18 minutes from here), or the beauty of Olana. A quick ride across the river and you're in Woodstock, or south to Hyde Park and you're at FDR's estate or the Culinary Institute. All this and Nature too!

The Amtrak station is 1.5 blocks from the house. There you can catch a train for a 95-minute magical mystery ride along the Hudson to Penn Station, New York City--truly a spectacular journey. At Penn Station you can catch the train to the plane at either LaGuardia or JFK.
For getting around locally cabs are usually standing at the RR station, although they can be not so easy to snag over major holidays or later at night, and generally it's best to book them in advance. It's an $8 can ride into the center of Rhinebeck. Best place to rent a car is from Enterprise in Kingston or Ruge's Subaru in Rhinebeck. Both companies will pick you up here or at the station and drive you back to their store for filling out paperwork and picking up your vehicle; and reverse the process when you return the car. The center of Rhinebeck is two miles away. Although most anything you want is pretty close by, and I'm happy to whisk you into town if I'm free, if you're not a big-time walker you will likely be more comfortable with a car or bike.

If you're wishing to use this room in combination with the meditation room for retreat, please discuss with host before booking to be sure we can meet your needs.

Guests have access to the bathroom, meditation/yoga room, and reading nook (but not for nighttime sleeping). The kitchen is open to guests in the morning until 9:30am on weekdays, 10AM on weekends for tea or coffee. Tea and sometimes a sweet or two are available at your pleasure in the Reading Nook.
Absolutely no smoking of any kind in the house. There's a smoker's bench outside in the garden if you like to smoke. (Even if you don't it's a nice place to sit!)
One of the things previous guests have liked about the house is that it's quiet. Please keep voices low, restrict cell phone calls to your room or outside the house, and use ear phones for music or video playback.
We use high-quality white linens, and so ask guests please not to bring food into the bedrooms. Fridge space is available and if you choose to eat in, you are welcome to do so in the Reading Nook or check with host first about use of kitchen after morning coffee hours.
We ask, please, that you keep your bedroom door closed so the cats don't get in.
No shoes upstairs. Slippers available to borrow if you'd like.
There are 2 AirBnB guest rooms sharing the bath upstairs. Please be considerate of your fellow guests.
The A/C cools quickly, so please turn it off when you leave the room for any length of time.
The house is maintained with loving care and attention to detail. Please treat it in the same spirit.
A printout of house protocols is provided to guests upon arrival. General policy:
When in need, discomfort, or in doubt, please ask!
Wishing you a sweet, soul-soothing, and comfortable stay. Thank you for coming!

Susan was a lovely, friendly, and accommodating hostess! Her home was clean, comfortable, relaxing, and quiet. Susan was very helpful with suggestions about places to go in the area and sites to check out. She provided simple, but tasty breakfasts, often with delicious and homemade breads. To top it off, Susan has two sweet and friendly cats. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and highly recommend staying at Susan's beautiful home!

Having traveled some I've learned what makes for me a good home away from home: cleanliness, convenience, a good bed, quiet, a simple but quality aesthetic, Nature, good water, something to read, something to munch on when restaurants are closed, friendliness, privacy when I need it ...
The very best experiences were when those things were provided in the homes of strangers who became friends. I'd like to offer that kind of haven for travelers here. The Sufis say, the Guest is God. You never know!
