El alojamiento

Ideal for a family looking for a totally unique break. 90% of the cabin is recycled/upcycled/reclaimed materials. There is a sitting area with wood burning stove and kitchen area downstairs, ( we have just added a home made double bed downstairs, which has bedding provided), and a sleeping loft upstairs, supplied with a variety of mattresses and pillows which you can move around to suit your family. Bedding is NOT normally provided ( except for the downstairs double bed) so bring your own sleeping bags.
There is electricity to the cabin, but the toilet is "off grid". ( composting toilet plus camper-van style cassette toilet).
For less hardy souls, there is a warm toilet and shower room available 2 minutes walk from the cabin.
Basic cooking facilities: fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee maker, bread maker and Halogen oven.
Baby High Chair available. Child safety gate on the stairs ( which are rather steep).

Use of the birchcanoes canoe on the river here
Fishing from the landing stage
Laundry room ( £1 per load for washing, same for drying)
Camp fire spot near the cabin
Learn to milk a goat ( free, in season)
You might want to learn to make a paddle using traditional methods and tools ( extra charge applies)
You might even want to build a birchcanoes canoe with us ( in which case, your accommodation fees will be refunded, as that is included in the cost of canoe building)

There is a pool table, darts board and workshop space on site

We live on site, but can leave you entirely to your own devices, you can come and go as you please. If you need anything, do come and ask us.

Pretty river valley dotted with lovely old villages.
Lovely thatched pub serving great meals just 1 mile down the lane in the village of Hoby.
We are situated right in the countryside, with no neighbours, nice and secluded.
We have a field where you can play Badminton etc, and goats who will appreciate any crusts, there are kingfishers and otters in the garden.

The 5a bus runs between Melton Mowbray and Leicester every 20 minutes throughout the day and early evening. The bus stop is 500 metres away.

We run birchcanoes canoe building holidays here, you are welcome to see the process and try our canoes on the river here.
The cabin has a large sleeping platform with mattresses (bring your own sleeping bags) and a single bed downstairs, for which bedding is provided. So plenty of space to sleep.

There is a nice thatched pub which serves meals until 9pm, a mile down the road ( The Blue Bell, at Hoby).
The valley here is very pretty, with little villages, grassy fields and hedges and occasional woodlands.

This place is an awesomely rustic rural experience. Accommodation was great and just perfect for a family of six. The warm welcome and generous hospitality shown by John was first class. We enjoyed canoeing on the river and the kids loved the tree house and feeding Debbie the goat. Cannot recommend this place enough, just hope it doesn't get too popular as we'd love to return very soon.

Six of us stayed in John's log cabin and had an amazing weekend. We'd all recommend it for a family or group of friends who want to spend a weekend getting away from it all, messing around in canoes on the river, playing games by the log fire and going for nice walks. John is a great host and helped to make our stay very enjoyable. Communication leading up to, and during our stay was very good and John popped over to make sure we had everything we needed and showed us around the site. The cabin is great - super cosy (we were a group of six adults, so it was very cosy but manageable!). The only minor downside was that the cabin could have done with a bit of a sweep and general clean. This wasn’t a major issue for us and obviously it is a log cabin, so a bit of dust and cobwebs are to be expected and embraced! But that would be the only improvement I can think of. If you're looking for something different, enjoy the outdoors, and don't mind camping-style amenities (which were all fine) and a few dusty cobwebs, I'd recommend this place. The homemade beds downstairs were comfortable and everyone slept well on the mattresses upstairs too (remember to bring your own sheets and bedding). We popped into Melton Mowbray which was nice to look around, and had a lovely walk to the Bluebell Inn for an amazing Sunday lunch, on John's recommendation. It was a weekend we’ll always remember, thanks to a great stay in the cabin. A true airbnb experience. We'll be planning our next visit here soon!

Hi, we are John and Carole from Brooksby in Leicestershire in the very middle of England. We have 4 children and three grandchildren. We live by a quiet river, and love hosting visitors in our two home built cabins. We first discovered Airbnb has guests in Corfu, and have since been Airbnb guests in Paris, Turin and Hay on Wye.
John runs canoe building holidays here. You may well see canoe building going on during your stay.
