John's lodge is amazing. Close to our family in Melton, but far enough away that we weren't under their feet. It's picturesque, peaceful, warm and welcoming, with the added touch of John providing a few things for our arrival. John additionally accepted us to bring our dogs onsite, making our travel worries considerably less. The facilities onsite were great, including the kitchen being stocked with various devices allowing us to comfortably cook for 5 adults without hassle. If you are using sat nav, please look for Birchcanoes, otherwise Airbnb's directions will lead you down a single track road, and make you go in circles. Although John will happily help you over the telephone if you're lost. I will be staying here again, without a doubt, and we have all agreed that we wish we could have stayed longer, as it was such a comfortable stay.

My partner and I stayed here with our dogs for three nights and for us it was absolutely perfect. John is a fantastic host, very accommodating, kind and generous. We were met by John when we arrived, he gave us a guided tour of the lodges and surrounding area, which is beautiful. He made sure the fridge was stocked with bread, milk and even cookies. We were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. You couldn't wish for a better host. I think the best thing about this place is that you can really tell it has been made with love, it is clear that John loves what he does and it's wonderful to see. I must say the space which has been created here is simply wonderful. One of the best places we have found to "get away from it all". We would both highly recommend John's river lodge for anyone wishing to take a break from modern life for a while. We definitely hope to return to the river lodge in the future.

Johns log cabin is pure adventure! If you like cosy, you will love this hand crafted cabin set by a lovely river. Photo opportunities abound in this rural, fantastically well managed cabin. John made sure we had bread and milk and everything we needed including fire wood. Would definitely recommend, great for a romantic getaway or a group of friends who want to go back to basics.

Hi, we are John and Carole from Brooksby in Leicestershire in the very middle of England. We have 4 children and three grandchildren. We live by a quiet river, and love hosting visitors in our two home built cabins. We first discovered Airbnb has guests in Corfu, and have since been Airbnb guests in Paris, Turin and Hay on Wye.
John runs canoe building holidays here. You may well see canoe building going on during your stay.
