Rusticate in style! Whether you're looking for a fun-filled family holiday, a romantic getaway, or a serene place to finish that novel, this beautiful vintage farmhouse is the perfect place to fall in love with Acadia and Downeast Maine.

The farmhouse is situated on over two acres of open grass, fruit trees, and a picturesque red barn, surrounded by woods with no neighbors in sight. Most rooms face south, with broad, bright views of Lucky's Field, occasional seasonal views of Raccoon Cove, and Sargeant Mountain and Acadia National Park beyond.

This old house is equipped with all modern conveniences—wi-fi, smart TV, bluetooth stereo, full country kitchen—plus outdoor games and seating, a well-stocked library of books, and much more. Vintage furniture includes incredibly comfy couches, a large desk, and seating for up to six.

Outside, a front porch under the lilacs provides a serene spot to relax in one of the Adirondack chairs. The back patio is ideal for evening gatherings and barbecues. A perennial garden attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. Come dusk, you may hear the drumming of a grouse or the ethereal song of a thrush. Fireflies and crickets provide lively evening entertainment. Spring brings the blossoming of the fruit trees, and the autumn foliage is sublime. The wildlife here is phenomenal: you're likely to spot eagles and osprey, foxes, and a variety of warblers in the woods. We've even seen a moose on the property.

There are three bedrooms upstairs (1 queen, 1 full, 2 twin beds), 2 baths (one downstairs), kitchen with new refrigerator and dishwasher, double parlor, dining room, sunroom and mud room.

Outdoor amenities include a picnic table, a charcoal barbecue, kayaks (two singles and a double), bicycles (5 adult mountain bikes, 1-2 kid-size), as well as beach chairs, coolers, and clamming equipment you can take to the nearby beaches.

Some of Our Prior Guests' Comments:

“This was truly one of our most wonderful family vacations. The farmhouse is gorgeous, the property lovely and the location absolutely perfect."

“Family meals in the kitchen, frisbee in the yard, and Lamoine State Beach were excellent things to do. Thank you for your tasteful and welcoming place."

“What a great place! We loved exploring the house and yard. The kids picked raspberries along the periphery, and we had a terrific football game in front of the barn."

“We feel like we've found a real jewel. None of us was ready to leave, and we can't wait to come back!"

Guests are free to make themselves at home at the farmhouse.

We live part time at the farmhouse, the remainder of the time in San Francisco. We have a local property manager who keeps an eye on things while we're gone.

Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are about a half-hour away, with miles of spectacular hiking trails. You can run the bikes up Cadillac Mountain or any of the carriage roads in Acadia, or explore the shoreline and islands of Frenchman's Bay by kayak or sailboat. Closer to home, It's a short walk or bike ride down quiet country roads to the secret swimming hole (known only by the locals) or to the shore's edge at Marlboro Beach. Also close by is Lamoine Beach (one of the few sandy beaches in the area) and the goat farm (delicious cheese!). You may also want to explore the little villages in the Blue Hill area, Penobscot, and Deer Isle, where you'll find not only antique stores, art galleries, and farmers' markets, but also impromptu farm stands and weekend open studios.

Fairs, festivals, and live music shows are held just about every weekend in the summer. Eats in the area run the gamut from ice cream stands, lobster shacks and brewpubs to award-winning, locally sourced fine dining.

At the house we keep a guest book with suggestions for activities, trips, restaurants, and more, along with a number of guidebooks and brochures.

A car is pretty much required, as this is a very rural area. The town of Ellsworth (where you can get groceries, gas, and supplies) is about 15 minutes away by car.

Be aware that the doorway to the sailors' room (with twin beds) has a curtain, not a full door.

We're currently upgrading our well water system. In the meantime, while our well water is fine for cooking and washing up, we recommend drinking bottled water--we'll provide a five-gallon jug for you.

We offer $100 off our weekly rate for multiple-week stays, and $100 off for returning guests.

We love this house. It makes us happy to be able to share it with like-minded guests when we can't be here ourselves, and we work hard to make it a restful and rewarding experience for you. It is an old house, however, so we ask that you treat it gently and with respect.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome at an additional $15/day per pet. Please be flea-free and up-to-date on vaccinations, and pick up after your pup.

The house is ideally outfitted for 2-6 guests. Extra guests require prior approval.

Maid service and garbage removal during your stay are not included in the rental rate. We provide trash receptacles that should be adequate for weekly stays. Additional trash removal will incur a $20 fee per pick-up.

No smoking inside the house.

Phillip and I are a little bit city mouse, a little bit country mouse. We keep a small home in San Francisco as well as a farmhouse in Maine. When we’re not here, we’re usually there.

Some of our favorite things: twangy guitars; sun and snow; meandering bike rides; time to read; working in the garden…honest work. We’re both creative-y types. My day job is designer, but I dream of farming some day. We both keep studios where we paint and draw and stuff.

We’re blessed to have a little foothold on each coast, and the opportunity to travel across country a few times a year, often by car and with dog in tow. Shifting perspectives regularly keeps us from getting too complacent about anything.

And we love sharing a bit of ourselves with like-minded travelers. We strive to provide for our guests a warm and inspiring home base for exploring new corners of the world, and hope that our guests leave rejuvenated, with spirit rekindled.
