Mountain Top retreat in a natural rhododendron and azelea garden on 100 acres with spectacular views of three states. Spectacular spring blooms and wonderful leaf viewing in the fall. Borders and overlooks the 4,800 acre Channels State Forest. The Clinch Mountain Hiking Trail crosses the property, with access to the Channels, a unique rock formation on top of Clinch Mountain that is a popular hiking destination. The property is listed on the Virginia Birding and wildlife trail, with abundant wildlife and excellent birding. Raven Ridge is located just off the Trans America 76 cross county bike route.

The Lodge has two bedrooms with queen beds and a couch that converts to a full bed in the living area. The kitchen is fully equipped with a six burner deluxe range. The marble tiled bath includes a claw foot bathtub. There is an outside hot tub available for soaking under the stars. Heat is provided by a soapstone wood stove with glass doors. Numerous porches are great for viewing the scenery or just lounging around.

Although the property has a Saltville address, it is actually located north of the town of Abingdon, and southwest of Lebanon.

Please note that in case of light snow, a four wheel drive vehicle is recommended for access. Arrangements can also be made for me to ferry you to the lodge in my truck, if need be. If there is a heavy snow (more than a couple of inches), access may not be possible. We don't get a lot of snow, but it is always possible in the winter months. All that being said, Raven Ridge is incredibly beautiful in the snow.

There is a two night minimum stay. Sorry, pets are not allowed at Raven Ridge, due to the allergies of some of my guests. Although my standard check in time is after 3 PM, I can sometimes accommodate earlier check in. depending on my schedule. Late checkout may be available as well.

My wife and I spent the weekend at Raven Ridge Lodge while we were exploring the Virginia Creeper Trail and the Channels Natural Area Preserve. Bill was very hospitable, meeting us at the gate despite the late hour of our arrival. The cabin is perfect for anyone looking for a q…

This was a great house to rent, very clean. It is very remote. The driveway made me nervous the first time up but after that it was fine.

Raven ridge is an amazing place, a home away from home with spectacular views and serenity. The closeness to the channels was a plus.

Unfortunately we were underwhelmed with the cabin. It felt more like a fancy version of camping instead of a mountain getaway. Especially (and mainly) since every other visitor sang praises for the house; we were not as impressed when we arrived. It didn’t have centeral heating, …

Lauren - I regret that your stay didn't meet your expectations. The great majority of my guests appreciate the unique experience that Raven Ridge provides. I do want to correct your statement that my listing was misleading about the heating. It clearly states that "Heat is provided by a soapstone wood stove with glass doors." I also provide several small electric heaters that guests can use in the bedrooms if they need a little more heat or don't care to light the wood stove, in addition to electric blankets. As Raven Ridge is literally located in the midst of thousands of acres of forest, having a few insects find there way in does happen from time to time, but they are minimal. The mouse you found had been caught in a trap in a utility room, not in the living area, and the trap was set shortly before your arrival, so it hadn't been there long. Once again, this is a consequence of where Raven Ridge is located, no mice live in the house, but they do make their way in occasionally. Wal-Mart is located 10 miles away and does take 25 minutes to get there, so I always advise my guests to bring food with them in the instructions I send to them along with the directions. If close access to shopping is something that a guest requires, then I would agree that Raven Ridge is not a good fit. I'm not sure what you were lacking in the kitchen, there are a number of pots and pans, a microwave, toaster oven and drip coffee maker, knives, utensils, a colander, even a pizza stone. I am glad that you enjoyed a soak in the hot tub. I have hosted hundreds of visitors from all over the world, and most have appreciated the coziness and magical setting. I see that you are new to Airbnb, and perhaps next time you would be more comfortable in a less remote location. William (Website hidden by Airbnb) William

We had an amazing time. Finding a place online, can be scary but Raven Ridge is just as represented but only better. It’s about 15 or so miles from town so bring groceries. When you arrive, it’s so peaceful that you might not want to leave. I cooked a pot of chili and brought …

Its literally on top of a mountain. The view was breath-taking. Bill is an amazing host. Very private place. Perfect getaway from the hussle and bussle of the city. You can even watch the sunrise from the hot tub.

Great place to get away. Plenty of wood for the wood stove, that gets the cabin nice and warm but is also efficient and doesn't need constant filling. Nice roomy hottub. I had a few questions, Bill answered quickly. Hiking nearby was great, you can walk out of any door and see mo…
