Villa S'Alqueria, Campanet, Mallorca (Majorca)

In a tiny hamlet of half a dozen houses perched on the hillside 2km from Campanet, Villa S'Alqueria makes a good first impression with its electronic wrought iron gates and gravel driveway. This good impression soon changes to sensational, when you open the kitchen door to the rear terrace and get your first glimpse of the pool, framed by an exquisite backdrop of countryside and the impressive Tramuntana Mountains.

At ground floor level, the spacious kitchen, overlooking the superb pool and gardens, comes complete with a walk in pantry, a fireplace and a farmhouse dining table. The cooks domain is nicely finished with attractive tiled work surfaces and well equipped with a sizeable fridge freezer, full gas cooker, microwave oven and dishwasher.

A door from the kitchen opens on to a partially covered rear terrace, where there is a very conveniently located purpose built barbecue area and a cobble sun terrace fringed by pretty flowered borders and lovely tree shaded gardens. From the patio, a couple of steps lead up to the superb 10m x 4.5m pool with Roman steps into the shallow end . Dwarf palms and almond trees and a remarkably luxuriant lawn fringe one side of the swimming pool and here you will also find a convenient outside shower and a fragrant lemon tree.

At first floor level is a comfortable sitting room with sofas and easy chairs.
There's also a fireplace and large picture windows with typical Mallorca rural views towards Campanet.

To the rear, with views over the pool towards the mountains are a double bedroom with a very dapper en-suite full bathroom whilst a second double bedroom and a twin bedroom, which has views into the old courtyard, share a family bathroom.

At ground floor level, via a corridor from the kitchen, is a small single bedroom with its own door providing a short cut to the pool and an adjoining shower room .

The pool has a depth of 1m at the shallow end and 2m at the deep end.

Towards mountains baker buger
Campanet & Buger, Mallorca

Situated on the edge of the green and wooded foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains, the village of Campanets one claim to fame is its amazing limestone caves, said to house the longest stalactite in the world! It also makes a good starting point for an exhilarating drive to the mountain top Monastry at Lluc via the picturesque village of Caimari.

Campanet has no less than three bakeries, as well as a well-stocked supermarket and a delicatessen. The sunny church square has a number of simple bars and small shops and it's a pleasant spot to linger over a morning coffee and sugary ensaimada before heading off for the day. Of an evening there are also two or three bars that serve authentic tapas or simple meals, but the village has surprisingly remained a peaceful backwater, virtually untouched by tourism.

Perched twin like atop a neighbouring hill and just 5 mins drive away, Buger (pronounced Boohair) is Mallorca's smallest municipality and holiday accommodation is still rare. Having received enthusiastic feedback about this drowsy little town from customers staying nearby, we were delighted to be offered a house on the outskirts. In the shady streets surrounding its magnificent church, life continues at a measured pace, much as it was before Mallorca became a holiday destination but a bank, post office, a small weekly market, minimarket, three simple cafe/bars, a popular weekend restaurant with a pretty terrace and an excellent baker provide the necessities of life.

Old Pollena with a good choice of shops and restaurants is no more than a 15 minute drive. However for a truly memorable occasion, book a table at a small hotel in the nearby village of Binibona where gourmet food is served on a candlelit terrace. If you don't want to drink and drive there's even a local taxi.

For serious shoppers, the town of Inca, famous for its leather goods and with some excellent cellar restaurants, is a 10 minutes drive and from here or, even nearer Sa Pobla, you can also catch a train to Palma.

The nearest beaches at Puerto Pollenca or Alcudia are approx. 20 minutes drive.

We found this villa was even better than the photos suggested. It's set just on outskirts of gorgeous little town and the views of surrounding countryside and mountains are nothing short of stunning. The pool is a good size and the outside dining area and BBQ are perfect. We spent most of our time outside but the sleeping quarters were pleasant with good airconditioning. I would whole heartedly recommend this as a great place to stay for a family of 4/6.

Mit The Freelance-Holidays hat alles reibungslos geklappt. Check-in eigentlich erst ab 16h, doch um 13h war das Haus bereits frei. Das Haus Villa S Alqueria, Mallorca ist wirklich sehr gut. Pool ist klasse. Hatten die Möglichkeit ein paar Weintrauben und Pflaumen zu ernten. Zimmer alle sehr schön. Alles was man braucht ist vorhanden. Haben oft selbst gekocht. Auch Strandmatten und Sonnenschirm sind vorhanden.
