Welcome to Bramble Bach. It's clean and simple and has everything you need for your stay. A Queen bed, sofa, small kitchen with the basics. Bathroom with a shower. Writing desk, and wardrobe. Your own verandah to enjoy a morning coffee whilst you watch the Tui and Piwakawaka. You're welcome to walk through our Organic permaculture vege gardens and orchard. Any questions? Ask away, we'll no doubt be pottering around the gardens.

El espacio
Nestled on the edge of the Mataraua Forest at the head of the Waimamaku River valley. Bramble Batch is a remote, idyllic retreat based at our organic permaculture homestead. It's the perfect place to unwind surrounded by nature, sit on the verandah and watch the birds or sit in the river and watch the dragonflies at work. At night (providing it's clear) the sky is magical, you can practically reach out and touch the Milky Way.

The bach features a gas cooktop and under bench fridge. Though if you're feeling super creative you're welcome to use the kitchen facilities in the main house.
For the artists we offer the use of our little theatre. An old workshop that's gradually being converted to a performance/rehearsal space that can be used for all manner of artistic endeavours such as theatrical, music, visual arts, yoga and dance. There may even be a performance happening while you're here! (check for details) or perhaps you would like to put on a show for our local community?

The property features access to the beautiful Waimamaku river only a short walk through the bush, organic gardens and orchard where you may be able to pick some fresh produce for a meal or maybe you would like to help feed the animals or milk our house cow, depending on when you visit.

We are located around 30 minutes from the village of Waimamaku where there is a small grocery store and gas station that closes at 6pm, so please take this into account before venturing up the valley. Wekaweka Road is an unsealed road so a bit slower going and a reason why we ask guests to aim to be here before it gets dark. We are around 14km from the state highway. 1404a is on the right immediately after a squiggly yellow sign saying 25km To add to the tranquility of your stay there is no cell phone reception in the local area. There is internet available in the bach.

We try our very best to be waste free, chemical free folks and will supply organic cleaning and toiletry products for your stay in line with our permaculture principles. We have no rubbish collection here and ask that guests take their waste away with them.

We think this is a very special place and love sharing it with our guests.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Howy and I emigrated here in 2007 from the UK. We have four beautiful grown up children and are about to become grandparents. I'm a composer and musician. Howy is a stage manager, festival designer and artist. We're passionate about permaculture, sustainability and growing as much of our food as we can. If we lived by a motto it might be - Earth Care. People Care. Fair Share. We love welcoming people onto our 3 acre organic permaculture farm. We moved here July 2018. It's a beautiful place for unwinding. We're part of a thriving and wonderful community here in the stunning Hokianga, dedicated to making the world a healthier and happier place. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1996 which means that having access to beautiful, organic, nutrient dense food and a sustainable healthy lifestyle are a high priority. I love cooking and learning the old ways of preserving, pickling and fermenting our harvests. Stuff our great grandparents knew. Sourdough bread making is fast turning into an obsession. We feel like we've hit the jackpot here in our piece of paradise. Howy has travelled pretty extensively in his early years. Mostly hitch hiking. We love a good art house movie, glass of organic red and a yarn with friends. We look forward to meeting you :)
