I had a terrific trip! Dragica (pronounced "Druh-GEE-tsuh) picked me up at the airport (cost: 35 euros) and brought me to her apartment. As an alternative, she can pick you up from the main bus station for 10 euros. The apartment (built in the early 1950's) consists of three bedrooms that get rented out, a shared bathroom, small dining area and kitchen. The rooms are reasonably spacious, complete with a double and single bed, air conditioner/heater, good natural light, small balcony and good wifi. Set atop a hill, one can walk about 15 minutes down a couple of streets and down a long path (with stairs) to get to the famous Old Town. Of course, the walk up the long path/stairs takes longer and is a bit more challenging. Dragica has been in the travel business for 25 years so she really knows the area. She can recommend various good restaurants or sites to visit. She also has maps and travel leaflets if you need it.
Moreover, Dragica is well-connected with various people (including other tour guides, shop workers, etc) which is helpful when you need further support. For example, when I needed to print up my boarding pass, she instructed me to go to one of her friends at a travel agency in the Old Town. In addition, she suggested I go on a three island boat trip (cost: 35 euros). She coordinated the trip with people who know her and I had a great time. Depending on her schedule, she can take you (with your friends or other renters) on trips to local countries. She speaks the languages of the countries she takes you to and she knows some of the locals because she takes her different guests to certain places that she likes (which are very good). In certain cases, you may need to pay for her meal, for parking, etc. Nonetheless, she will give you a great experience. I'm personally glad I stayed with Dragica. She helped make my trip both outstanding and memorable.
