I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because as advertised it was a separate unit and not a shared space. The shower ran, the stove turned on and the WiFi was adequate for my phone even though it would not work for my sister's.
First off, this is a dirty rowhouse subdivided into 4 units by a property owner we never even met. I have no doubt that she will leave me a 5-star review for leaving it cleaner than it was upon our arrival.
The bathroom was tiny and lacked even shower mat, leaving me with no option but to use my clothes to prevent the floor from soaking. There was blue mould in the corner.
The room came with no garbage bin or bag, no broom, and no means of cleaning crumbs off the floor other than the single dish sponge in the sink, which was promptly utilized to scrub the layer of dirt and grime off the surface of every single dish in the cupboard. The frying pan and spatula were below even my usual dollar store standards and showed visible structural strain while flipping an omellete and there was not a single cutting board, not even a cheap plastic one, in any of the kitchen drawers which fell off their screws.
Every meal was eaten on plastic folding chairs in a backyard strewn with various filth and construction debris, including curiously a ladder propped up against a fence functioning as what I must assume to have stood in as a fire escape, leading straight to the kitchen door accompanied by the kitchen window which couldn't close because it was too big for its frame. Not that it would've done much good because the unit did not have a smoke detector and the futon when unfolded blocked the doorway.
Considering the "host" didn't even live there and was gouging us $479 CAD for 4 nights she could've at least done the bare minimum to make the place liveable.
