I arrived at the Sophia Baharini Apartments for check in and it took only 5 minute to get checked in. Upon entering the room, the windows were left open (probably to air out the room for the next guess) –The windows do not have screens, so for the next hour as I tried to unpack, I was fighting off hornets that flew in while the windows were open.
The room has good amenities, but I felt like the room could have been arranged a bit better. You have everything you need provided for you, except gas for the cooking stove; there is a 200khs per day additional charge. The Aircon works great.
The bed was very uncomfortable; it is made of some kind of hard spring mattress. I often preferred to sleeping on the lounge sofa/extra bed(it is very comfortable) in the living room when I slept alone.
The staff at Baharini were great, I cannot recall having to wait for email reply, text, or assistants when need. The grounds are kept spotless and the garden is exquisite, the entire apartment complex is like a mini jungle. The pool is breathtaking, and lounge chairs and umbrella are available upon arriving at the pool.
The location is 10-15 min walk from the beach; 5 min walk to a shopping (clothing & food) center, liquor store, saloon, a restaurant and several other shops. The apartments are also a 100-150kes, 5 minute-motorbike ride to all the beach and nightlife bars, discos and Nackumart.
What I did not like during my stay at the S.Baharini was 1.) That the WI-FI did not work while I was there. It could have been my computer (but for the last 2 weeks, I had been staying at various places along the coast and used various Internet café with no issues) until I arrived at the S.Baharini. After I checkout and checked in to my current location, my Internet is working fine. 2.) Around 10pm onward, the security would lock the main door to the build, which is a safety hazard, after I told them, do not do that when I am in my room. 3.) This is Africa, and bugs are everywhere. But if I left food out ( a drop of milk, package of dried fruit, a drop of whatever I was eating, for more 5 minutes ants would be everywhere. The management needs to use a better exterminator or do it more often.4.) Window Screens need to be added to the rooms so that you could open the window sometime, especially if you have a lower level room, to keep bugs out or to let some fresh air in.
The S.Bahrini has a good knowledgeable staff. This place has a lot of potential, if someone can come in and mange the place properly, that would be awesome. Would I stay at the S.Baharini again?? No to sure. It is very affordable compared to other hotels in the area; especially during High Season.
