Our difference: River Views! Relax directly ON the New River & in the New River Gorge Nat'l Park. Sit at the dining room table and watch the waterfowl. Spring: waterfalls/wildflowers/bird migration. Cottage has antiques, local artifacts, & lovely views. Short trip to city of Beckley (9 mi) for groceries. Across the river is Glade Creek Park for light or extreme outdoor adventure. Fayetteville-30 min drive N-offers hiking, rock climbing, zip lining, eateries, shops, breweries, antiques, & more.

El espacio
Unplug and unwind! We offer 2 bedrooms with a twin and double bed in each. Each room has a door to a shared porch for morning coffee. There is 1 bathroom (no tub) and 1 outdoor shower. The great room features a small kitchen (apt sized appliances: fridge, sink, oven, stove, microwave, and coffee pot, etc), dining area with an 8' antique table for 6, and small living room with couch and chairs, satellite tv (limited); all 3 living areas have views of the river. The highlight is the 36' covered river porch with 2 porch swings, table for dining or card game, several chairs, sunning spot with gravity chair, outdoor shower, mini fridge for drinks, and large propane grill with extra table for prep. The yard has a firepit with starter wood provided (more for a small fee) and extra chairs available. 3 parking spots: one by the cottage, one just off the road (9 steps up), one across the street. Cottage has well water (we provide starter bottled & jug waters, for some taste preferences), limited satellite tv, Central heating and air. Cell service works best outside and with AT&T. However, we have a land line with 3 phones and can provide the number after cottage is reserved. WE HAVE NO WIFI.

Servicios y zonas comunes
The entire house and yard. NO RIVER ACCESS FROM COTTAGE. There is boat access on the other side of the river - 2 at Glade Creek Park (Glade and Grandview Sandbar) and one at McCreery. All 3 of these access sites are nearby and on the opposite side of the river from the cottage. The beach at the end of our road is another location to take out a raft or kayak, but must have a bike or 2nd car (many guests reserve with other guests from different locations) to take in and take out at 2 separate sites. LIFE JACKETS (bring your own) MUST be worn on the New River at all times. Not to mention, you will need a shuttle or two cars for drop off and pick up. If you take a rafting trip with a professional company (Adventures on the Gorge or ACE Whitewater) ALL aspects are taken care of for you (safety, food, gear, local knowledge of the area, etc).

Otros aspectos destacables
WE ARE 10 MIN FROM Summit Bechtel Reserve entrance - the National Boy Scout Park. 2019, the World Jamboree (Jul 21-Aug 2) was held there. It was the first time since 1967 that it was held in North America. National Jamboree will be next in 2021... The Spartan Race and other events are also held there. Book your stay with us now.

Do nothing or choose high adventure. We prefer to do both!
Hiking is great year round: In the winter, the moss and ferns are almost neon green. All the rock formations are on full display. We have some beautiful sunny days, if that's your preference (Check weather online. This winter, already had a 70 degree day). If you are experienced, you can even raft, kayak, rock climb, or mountain bike on these occasional days. If you prefer snow, Winterplace is 40 min south of us and is known on the east coast as a great place to learn to ski. They also have a tubing park. Snowy hiking is also beautiful if you have proper outerwear and shoes. Spring hiking is great for wildflowers, waterfalls, and catching various bird migrations. We have a waterfall guide book, for your convenience. Spring brings many small sporadic waterfalls that crop up everywhere; including several on Batoff Mt (the mountain you drive down...2.5 miles... to get to the cottage and go up to start many of your adventures). Summer is always perfect for hiking; with the added benefit of various locales that provide swimming spots (bring lifejackets if you want to swim on the New River). Fall hiking has beautiful views of the changing leaves and great temperatures.
Come experience a variety of trails within the gorge. Fall is also a great time to mountain bike... bring your own or rent from Arrowhead Bike Farm near historic Fayetteville. Across the river is Glade Park, for hiking or swimming in the pool of a waterfall. Or put in your kayaks at Glade and take out at the beach at the end of our road (2 vehicles required for this). Amtrak train station 2 miles away. Perfect if you want to meet someone here.

Fayetteville is a short 30 minute drive with the national landmark "New River Gorge Bridge", whitewater rafting, hiking (Endless Wall, Long Point, and many more), guided fishing, some of the best rock climbing on the east coast, zip lining, mountain biking, Bridgewalk, eateries (the original Pie's and Pints, Secret Sandwich Society, Cathedral Cafe, Wood Iron, Free Folk Brewery, the Stache ice cream), shops, etc.

Beckley (15 min) has lots available for groceries including: Walmart, Aldi's, Kroger, and Food Lion. There are unique restaurants (King Tut drive-in, the Char, Calacinos, Dobra Zupa, Poncho & Lefty's, Fujiyama hibachi, etc.) and chains like Outback, Olive Garden, Chick-fil-A, Qdoba, Panera, Texas Roadhouse, Five Guys, Dickey's BBQ, Bob Evans, Cracker Barrel, etc. Beckley also offers Marquee movie theater, Chocolate Moose (coffee shop, ice cream, mini golf, and climbing gym), Crossroads Mall (Dick's Sporting Goods, JCPenney's, Belk, etc), Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine & Museum, and Tamarack (juried WV hand crafted items, art, and upscale food court & ice cream or coffee).

Nearby Parks: Babcock (hiking, photogenic mill, pool, cabins), Glade Creek (hiking, fishing, boat put ins, camping), and Grandview (hiking, picnicking, outdoor theater, visitor's center).

National Park Visitor's Centers: Fayetteville (NRG bridge views, river views, Park Rangers, hike, museum, shop), Thurmond (ghost town, trains, Park Rangers, hike nearby, museum, shop), and Sandstone (Park Rangers, nature exhibits, shop).

One hour drive to historic civil war town of Lewisburg (boutiques, eateries, antiques, breweries, distilleries, cave tours, etc) and White Sulphur Springs with the world famous resort, "The Greenbrier" (golfing, shopping, restaurants, Cold War - Congress -Bunker Tour) and DIY network show "Barnwood Builders" gift shop.

Want more? Historic Hinton and Sandstone Falls (S), historic Bramwell (further S), Summersville Lake (N. Guided out of Fayetteville for swimming, SUP boarding, cliff climbing), Seneca Rocks (NE), Cass Scenic Railroad (NE), Cranberry Glades and bogs (NE), Dolly Sods Wilderness (NE), Winterplace Ski (S), Snowshoe Resort (NE), etc.

WE HAVE NO WIFI. There is no river access from the property, but plenty nearby.

Some of my favorite destinations are Berlin, London, Hong Kong, New Orleans, Kauai, and Michigan .... I have been married 17 years and have two wonderful daughters. We have a hound mix, named Buddy, who is a big part of the family. I like to hike, whitewater raft, kayak, garden, bird watch, and most anything outdoors. My husband and I are both educators.
