About the land:
Our retreat sits on 33 wooded, hillside acres at the base of Pleasant Mountain. We have a medicine wheel for a spectacular place to sit with long views of Mount Washington and the White Mountains National Forest. We border Nature Conservancy and Loon Echo Land Trust lands, forever protected from development.

Our off the grid Yurt is part of Maine's first green certified retreat center.

There is a composting toilet is a short walk away (downhill about 50 yards, an outdoor fire circle, picnic table, and hammock.

Please note there is no running water at the yurt. We have a warm shower for our guests created from a hybrid system with solar, wood and propane on demand for limited, mindful usage, located a 5 minute hike up to the Pioneer Shower Room. There is a seasonal air temp outdoor shower, outdoor sink and water jug refill spigot just below you in the back of the Mt Pleasant Lodge.

Amenities include:

locally roasted organic coffee beans and tea
french press, coffee bean grinder, tea pot
two burner propane stove for simple and basic cooking

The Sunset Yurt was a great place to stay for a long weekend. I read booked, journaled, hiked, cooked over a campfire, relaxed and forgot all my troubles in the sauna. It was exactly why I imagined and Jen was a more than helpful host. She checked in on me via text and made sure I had everything I needed. I will 100% be staying there again.

If you are looking for spiritual retreat and a place to disconnect from urban life, I highly recommend Nurture through Nature! I was able to spend my days frolicking in the forrest with comfort & ease; It was also a magical place to experience this recent solar eclipse! Meditation benches and sweet mantras punctuated their private trails, which supported mindful walks and powerful moments of stillness. It was a rustic experience with also some of the comforts of home. Thank you for creating such a sweet, sacred place where weary warriors can rejuvenate their spirits!

All travelers: The Wi-Fi that can be picked up at the foot of the hill is spotty at best. The location is difficult to find due to lack of street signs and business signs. There are small signs tacked to the trees that say things like "yoga" and "sauna". There Will be no cell phone reception as you travel along these back roads in your car, so be prepared to get lost. Winter travelers: Be aware that the hills are very steep (45- 65° in places), and some of the footpaths are neither well marked nor shoveled or walked upon. The paths to the toilets may or may not be walked upon and there is a very Good chance that they Will be either slippery or steep or both. Also, although it states that there is yoga, this is only April-October. Finally, the sauna is only on Saturday afternoons for 2 hours with the following conditions: there are no lights, it costs $15 each, you may be asked to leave promptly at 6pm by someone Who may or may not introduce themselves to you as being an employee or representative of Nurture by Nature. Private sauna sessions are over $30 each. There is no hot water in the sinks where the showers are, neither are there toilets. The suggested limit on a hot shower is 3 minutes. There is a very Good chance that you Will not see anyone while you are staying there.

Respuesta de Jen:
Hello Mara, Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear of your challenges while on your winter retreat. I would like to address your points for accuracy and fair representation. 1. We offer wi fi only in Harmony Cabin. You did not stay in Harmony and we make no claims of wi fi anywhere else. 2. Our retreat is in a very rural location in western Maine. Our website offers very specific directions in case cell phone reception drops if using (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps and there is a map in our parking lot to find your yurt. There are signs directing you on the land. We urge everyone to arrive before dark as our lighting is minimal. We are an off the grid retreat center and do not light the trails. This is clearly stated and we ask you to have you flash light handy. You arrived after 8pm. 3. Yes, in rural Maine cell phone reception is spotty and we make no claims that your cell will work in Denmark or on the land. 4. We inform all guests that it is a mountain retreat with sloped access especially in winter when access is by foot. 5. We do our best to keep the paths cleared and we have gotten dumped on with multiple back to back storms. I am very sorry if your foot travel was challenging at times. We will work on being more thorough on this! 6. We offer boot traction devices aka Yak Trax for sale on site and it is on your provided suggested packing list to bring snow shoes, rent ours or use traction devices as conditions vary from day to day in Maine in the woods and otherwise. 7. All of our information clearly states that our regular community yoga classes on site run from April-early Dec. If you can tell me exactly where you read that there would be winter classes, I would like to be sure to make that explicitly clear. To the best of my knowledge, we are very clear about when our yoga classes run and have not had winter classes for years. Guests are invited to schedule a private yoga class in advance. 8. You were informed that booking a private sauna was an option and the cost is $25 per person (not over $30 each). There was a slot for you Saturday 6:30pm and you didn't want it. We offer private appointments Thurs-Saturday based on availability. Our community sauna does run for 4-6 on Saturday and I am sorry if you experienced staff as unwelcoming. 9. During your stay we unfortunately had our shower room pipes freeze which is being repaired. One of our guests left that door open and the pipes froze, hence the sink not working. We had a plumber repair this as soon as able. Sorry you did not have hot water in the sink. 10. Our guests are all informed in all of our information that we have composting toilets and not indoor toilets. 11. We offer our guests privacy and respect during their stay, hence the self-check in, welcome notebook, maps, and contact info as needed. We never received a call or text from you asking for support in any way and we would have been there for you. It sounds like you had cell reception albeit spotty. We have found that stopping in to see guests has been intrusive so we have shied away from that. If I am missing anything or you feel I am not understanding your concerns, please private message me and I will do what I can to make it right with you, for example, give you a significant discount to come try us again in different season and when yoga classes are happening again. Thank you

My husband and I had a fantastic time weekend staying in the sunset yurt. The yurt had everything you could possibly need and was spotlessly clean. The host, Jen had left a lovely welcome card and provided us with some basic essentials, water, coffee and wood for the burner! Spending time in the yurt was so peaceful and the views of the forest around are just magical. The site itself is beautiful - especially in fall when the leaves are so colourful. I was a little worried about the compost toilet but it was super clean! If you are looking for some downtime and a place to relax this is absolutely perfect. We also did a few hikes whilst we were there, it is very close to Mount Pleasant which has great views!

I am from Maine and have created an earth~friendly retreat, Nurture Through Nature, Maine's first green-certified lodging facility (since 2003). I thrive in the natural world and by learning what it has to teach. I also love sharing the land and our eco-cabins and yurts with people interested in simplifying through an off the grid lifestyle.

I also appreciate the healing arts, such as yoga, meditation, and qi gong. Periodically, we have workshops and retreats led by me or other healing arts practitioners on site. You may want to schedule your stay during one of these events. Otherwise, our spaces are available to personal getaways and you can create your own eco-retreat.

Things I love are really good coffee and conversation, dark chocolate, acoustic music, photography, red wine, exploring in nature, quiet places, canoeing, hiking, biking and my cool calico cat, Pearl.
