Descripción

A private two-bedroom condo on the main floor of a three-story building, located 7 minutes by foot from the Fields Corner Subway Station (Red Line), east of Dorchester Avenue, and 15 minutes by car to downtown Boston. Fast wifi, full use of a well-equipped kitchen, and street parking allowed. Coin-op laundry in common area basement. A playground and field are two minutes away.

This is a simple and affordable private two bedroom apartment that can accommodate up to six people during your visit to Boston, six subway stops from the downtown. The interior has hardwood floors and crown moldings, and the kitchen is fully equipped. The common areas (yard, entryway) need some cosmetic work. In the summer of 2015 I had listed just one of the bedrooms on Airbnb, but it's now the whole apartment for rent.

Feel free to use all appliances, utensils, flatware, and cookware, etc. Coin-op laundry is in the basement, 8 quarters per machine cycle. Note: the basement is old and unrenovated. The beds can fold into the wall and turn into a desk, but the mechanism could be damaged if you try without being familiar with it, so it would be best to keep them as beds (though if you need the desk feature for work, let me know, and I'll provide instructions).

My place is usually on Airbnb when I am in Africa or India for fieldwork, though sometimes I'll be in Boston. Consequently, it's very likely that we won't meet in person, but I like to maintain good contact with my guests by email. When I am not in town, my close friend Abigail manages the property and you will have her contact information in case there are on-site emergencies.

This is my primary residence, so I really appreciate it when guests let me know if there's anything that I can improve or a maintenance issue that needs attention.

There are many affordable Vietnamese and Chinese restaurants along Dorchester Avenue and Adams Street, along with some burger and pizza joints, a nice gastro-pub called the Blarney Stone, and a Cafe called Chill on Park Street. There's a public library around the corner, a park/field/children's playground, and a discount grocery store in a shopping plaza on the other side of the park, about 5 minutes from the apartment by foot. There is also a Subway (restaurant), convenience store, liquor store, and Dunkin Donuts two minutes away, on the south corner of Gibson Street and Dorchester Avenue.

The neighborhood is residential, located 6 miles from the downtown. The only major local attraction is the JFK Presidential Library, two subway stops North, facing the Ocean. This is a diverse neighborhood of mostly three-story multi-family wooden buildings from the early 20th Century. As you will see on our street, there are some very nicely restored building with immaculate lawns, paint, and woodwork, adjacent to rental buildings that need cosmetic work. Overall, we are in a nicer, safer part of Dorchester (across the street from the local police station), but you won't get the high-end feel from the neighborhood that you'll find in parts Brookline, Back Bay, or West Cambridge.

The Fields Corner T Station (Ashmont Red Line) takes you right into downtown Boston. The trains come every 10-12 minutes or so (average wait of 5-6 minutes). An Uber ride to the downtown typically costs about $13-$15 when regular fares are in effect.

As far as I understand, Boston's city bylaws don't allow Airbnb (you must be a certified bed and breakfast). If asked by neighbors, please just say you are Michael's friend staying over while he is traveling.

My daughter and I stay after a Red Sox game. It is close to Fenway on the South Side of Boston.

We enjoyed our stay at Michael's condo. Check-in and check-out were very easy. Beds were very comfortable. We had one small issue with the wifi that Michael was very quick to resolve. Great host!

Michael was great with communication. Every time I had a questions, he was quick to respond. Michael place is conviently located less than 5 minutes from the subway and while we rented a car for the days we stayed in Boston during marathon weekend, we found ourselves solely using public traffic to get around. Great little restaurant around especially if you like Vietnamese. We highly recommend Michaels place to others staying in Boston.

Michael's place was very clean and easily accommodated 6 people. He provided all the necessary toiletries for us and made it feel like we were living at home.

Overall, a very pleasant stay. The apartment was fine for most of our needs but not perfectly suited for children under 3 years old (due to a few issues such as chemicals in low, unlocked cabinets -- we've noted them to Michael now and he may resolve them before future stays). Kitchen was well-stocked and included teas and oatmeal which was nice, and some fabulous restaurants nearby (such as Vietnamese). Notes for others: - The lock box for the key is painted gold now, not black so be aware of that. And you have to lift up in a funny way once the code is entered. - Laundry machine in the basement ate our quarters the first time but worked the second. There is also a laundromat not that far away. - I bumped my head on the low-down shelf above the master bed, which Michael may possibly be able to remove to make it more comfortable.

Michael's place is exactly as described in the listing and provides plenty of space. If you're traveling to Boston but want to have a more domestic place to return to at the end of the day, this is the perfect place. The kitchen is well stocked, and Michael is prompt in answering messages and addressing concerns if necessary. Highly recommended!

I am a stereotypically friendly Canadian. At the moment I'm working on a PhD at MIT and am hoping to do something with my career that will help business and NGOs in developing countries operate more effectively. I love travelling to Latin America and have tried to go during the winter holidays to explore and study Spanish for the past few years. I've also spent time volunteering in Kenya through a non-profit that I was heavily involved with during college. Although I study engineering, my real interest is reducing poverty - I am passionate about social justice and this affects most things I do.

Some of my favorite things to do include hiking, snorkeling, buying fresh produce at farmers markets, and getting great deals on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) and at thrift stores. I also love to experiment with new food in the kitchen.
