The position of St. Blasien is particularly strategic: the city is situated in the highest part of the Black Forest (Hochschwarzwald) and in a tri-border region (on the border between Germany, France and Switzerland). You will additionally find free-time activity possibilities for all tastes!
St. Blasien is a city of art and culture, famous for its cathedral dome, which is covered by the third largest vault of a religious building in the entire Europe. On the occasion of the Dome Celebrations (Domfestspielen) some historical games take place and in the beginning of September one can attend the annual sculpture competition occurring in the hamlet Menzenschwand. St. Blasien is also near to small cities of historical interest such as Waldshut and Bad Säckingen.
St. Blasien is situated in the Black Forest and is near to many lakes, like for example the Titise and the Schluchsee (the largest lake in the Black Forest, where it is possible to play many water sports and to go fishing).
Well-being and sport:
This city is especially famous for its pure and healthy air: it is in fact a climatic spa (Luftkurort) and offers many different opportunities for a healthy lifestyle and for the personal well-being. For example the therapeutic radon baths – Radon Revital Bad – in the hamlet Menzenschwand, the ski tracks for both down-hill and cross-country ski which go up to the Feldberg, the highest mountain of Baden-Württemberg, and the many hiking trails throughout the forest.
