El espacio
The Railway Suite is more than a place to rest your head. It celebrates the legendary Union Pacific Railroad, situated across the road from the Story Street Inn and the historic city of Boone, Iowa.

This classic suite offers a full size Murphy bed, circa 1915, embellished with a soft mattress and fine linens in a railroad theme. The fully furnished kitchen has the original cabinets but all the modern conveniences with a stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster and coffee pot. The living area has large windows overlooking Veteran’s Memorial Park and Story Street. A railway theme, with trains and railroad memorabilia, is carried on throughout the suite. The bathroom is next on our list to update, but is very clean and currently has a huge old soaker tub/shower combination. Towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap and other amenities are provided for guests.

Servicios y zonas comunes
Guests have the entire suite, including the living area, kitchen, dressing area and bathroom.

Otros aspectos destacables
The water pressure in this 105 year old building sometimes is quirky. Water has to travel a long distance from the basement to the third floor. Guests say that if the pressure is low, usually, turning the water off and back on resolves the issue. The bathroom is lovely, totally functional and very clean but is on the list of rooms to be updated.

We are different from a hotel or a motel. Your suite is your home while you are here so and we’d love it if you treat your suite like it’s your home.

We are not in the practice of making the beds every morning. But, if you want your bed made, let us know. We are not in the practice of changing out towels each day, so please hang them up and allow them to dry. But, if you want fresh towels, let us know. Please leave wet towels and wash cloths in the bathtub before checking out.

Our mantra is, this is your home while you are here. If you use the dishes, wash them. If you make a mess, clean it up. If something isn’t working right, let us know and we’ll do the best we can to fix it in a timely manner. If you need anything, please ask.

We pay a living wage to our employees. Please help us retain our excellent staff by making their jobs enjoyable.

We are a mother/son team who have spent several years restoring the historic Goeppinger Building on Story Street in Boone, Ia to its original 1905 architecture. The Goeppinger building was erected on a lot that was once the home of the European Hotel. The hotel burned down, the lot was purchased by the Goeppinger family and the 3 story structure was completed in 1905. It originally housed four store fronts on first floor, the Goeppinger offices on second floor and a lodge on third floor. The lodge was converted into six upscale studio apartments in 1935. For ten years, we operated the business much the same as it was operated the past 100 years. In 2017, the decision was made to rethink our business plan and open a boutique inn. This year, as apartment leases end, apartments are updated and offered as boutique studio suites for guests, with a focus on extended stay guests. The Story Street Inn, located in the Goeppinger building, has much to offer guests. Bellucis’s Pizza house has been in the building since 1965 and is known for excellent Italian cuisine. Houndstooth Haberdashery offers a complete line of men’s vintage apparel and made to order men’s suits. Kelly’s Salon 908 is well known in the area for excellence in hair care, offering cuts, styles, color and perms. On second floor, Modern Boudoir, owned by well known photographer, Cassie Moul, offers photography designed to empower women and provide affirmation of their beauty and goodness. We hope you will enjoy all that the Story Street Inn has to offer. But, there is much to do outside of the Goeppinger Building, as well. You are just steps away from the Boone Movie Theater where you can enjoy newly released movies and concessions for much less than theaters in neighboring cities. A walk down Story Street will take you past a variety of antique stores, dress shops, the museums, restaurants and consignment stores. The Boone Scenic Valley Railroad offers train rides through the Des Moines River Valley. The city parks are some of the best in the state. Seven Oaks Recreation has downhill skiing in the winter and canoeing and kayaking in the summer. Ledges State Park is just a few miles south of Boone where hiking and picnicking can fill the hours of an entire day. Ames is just a few miles away and the Story Street Inn will provide economical lodging for those who enjoy ISU sporting events. We look forward to sharing our historic inn, where you will enjoy lots of space, comfortable beds with quality linens, great amenities and all the comforts of home! Our historic building is our “Downtown Abbey”.
