We are happy to share our knowledge of the area and our farming experiences, as well as our home, with our guests. Depending on the season there is lots to see on the farm, although, sorry but we can't make any guarantees.
Lambing time April / May - feed a lamb or if you are lucky, see one born.
Clipping time August - see the sheep being sheared.
Hay time July / August - we still make small bale hay, the scent is heavenly.
All year round the sheep need gathering in - see them being gathered on the fell or driven along the road by farmer & dog.
Ask us about the field barns, the miles & miles of dry stone walling, the Swaledale sheep, the landscape, our way of life - we are always glad to help.

Pry House Farm is situated 2 miles west of the tiny hamlet of Keld in Upper Swaledale. Keld has a tearoom, Information Centre & small hotel, Keld Lodge with excellent restaurant.
Beautiful and unspoilt, Keld is on the crossroads of two major long distance walks; Coast to Coast & Pennine Way.
There are lots of cycle routes both on & off-road some a mere 2 miles from the 2014 Tour de France route.
Keld has the highest concentration of waterfalls in England.
During 19c lead mining was the main industry of the area. There are still remains of lead mining times to be discovered.
Tan Hill Inn, 5 miles away, is the highest pub in England.
Lots of good, traditional pubs, tearooms and other quality eating places very close by.

Car essential when staying in Upper Swaledale unless, of course, you are a long distance walker and arriving on foot!
There is no public transport to Pry House Farm. The local community bus service comes to Keld twice a day. For timetable Little White Bus Swaledale

Being married to a farmer means Chris & I have little spare time however we both have our hobbies; Chris has two vintage tractors and I make proddy rugs and other articles using the traditional proddy & hooky methods.

Comfortable sitting room with open fire, t.v., good selection of local interest books & novels.

Ideal for families or two couples holidaying together as both guest rooms are accessed via their own staircase from the guest sitting room.

We are happy to share our knowledge of the area with our guests and to help in any way to make your stay a good one. This is our home and we are always on hand to answer questions about the farm and Swaledale.

Pry House stands at the head of Upper Swaledale facing the fell and is surrounded by natural hay meadows & pastures. The views are jaw dropping, the night skies awe inspiring and the rugged moorland landscape is wild & exciting. The whole of the Yorkshire Dales is on our doorstep to explore on foot, by cycle or by car. Come and experience this unique & special place for yourself. You will be most welcome.

Public transport is very limited in Upper Swaledale making a car essential when staying at Pry House Farm. There is however a community bus service that comes up to Keld everyday except Sunday. For timetable Little White Bus Swaledale.

We have just got back from our lovely two night stay here. Staying at Pry House was like staying at a close relatives house. Glenda and Chris were the perfect hosts! Nothing was too much trouble. Glenda's knowledge of the area is absolutely second to none, whether it be giving advice on what to have for tea or what to do during the day. Glenda's recommendation of the Keld Muker walk was fantastic. She even showed us where to park and dropped us off at the beginning! She advised us how to get around the walk and what to keep an eye out for. The scenery is breath taking! The amount of times we had to stop, take photos and just take in the view...I lost count. We ventured into Hawes for the afternoon which is about a 15/20 minute drive - Wensleydale Creamery is a must! I got over excited and bought a lot of cheese then realised we had no where to store it! Glenda kindly let us store it in her fridge! Another of Glenda's recommendations was the Farmers Arms pub - the food was absolutely delicious and the portions are huge! And only a short drive from Pry House Farm. After all that walking and eating it was lovely to come back to find that Glenda had lit a toasty fire to settle us in the evening. Glenda makes a gorgeous breakfast, on a lovely table, set out with the most beautiful breakfast set! The room we stayed in was super cosy and lovely and warm - it was difficult to get up in the morning! But worth it to see those beautiful views (and tasty breakfast). Thank you for such a lovely stay! We wanted a peaceful and quiet couple of nights away and we got that away and more! We're already planning our next visit! We can't wait to see the meadows in full bloom!

We were booked to spend this weekend in Glenda's B&B in Yorkshire. Unfortunately the British weather (snow) had other ideas! Glenda contacted us a few days before and advised that the road conditions may be challenging. We agreed to leave the booking open and decide on the day. Unfortunately, Glenda advised that the country roads would be too dangerous without a 4x4. We appreciated her honesty and her communication through out has been impeccable. We have rearranged our booking for early April and look forward to our stay!

Thanks Sam for being so understanding. I have never had to postpone before but the weather beat us this time! However better safe than sorry. Looking forward to,seeing you both in April. All the best Glenda

We had a lovely stay at Pry House. It is a stunning location with lots of incredible walks on the doorstep. Couldn't do them all! Glenda was a perfect host with lots of useful info on where to go, especially when taking into account local weather which can be unpredictable. We did a loop of Kisden Hill taking in the Keld waterfalls and Muker village. Breakfast was delicious, and the fire was roaring! Definitely will return if we are in the area.

Could this be the best hosted stay in Britain? Probably so. From the moment you turn onto their road across the moor the scenery had us spell bound, which only heightened when we arrived at Pry House which claims the most stunning view imaginable. Glenda would have to sprout wings to be more perfect as a host, from the greeting to our farewells she could not have done more for us or have been kinder. The cooked Breakfasts were magnificent, she is an excellent cook. We were so fortunate to be there at the time of the Muker Show, in which she and Chris her husband are very involved. This was an excellent day made or the more special by thier advice and helpfulness. Hand on heart, we would recommend Glenda and Pry House without reservation.

Thanks a million for your fabulous review. Your 'wings' reference made me laugh. Chris says you have yet to see me in my 'pointy hat'! Loved having you to stay and we still can't get over Christine running the fell race. She's a legend!

It was an absolute treat staying at Glenda's property. The views were spectacular, the property was lovely and the breakfast was delicious. Glenda was so helpful in the lead up to booking - she gave me ideas of where to go out to dinner in Keld as well as providing excellent joining instructions. I adored our stay here and would recommend this place to anyone! Can't wait to come back soon.

Farmer's wife, B&B host, holiday cottage proprietor and proud owner of a cute-as-could-be Shepherd's Hut which will be listed on Airbnb in 2107. I like reading, craft, crosswords (winter months) and gardening, observing wildlife and generally being outdoors (summer). Farming is a 24/7 lifestyle meaning we don't get away very often so by welcoming B&B guests into our home, the world comes to us. I write a blog so that we can share with others what's happening on the farm.
