This historic home is a fantastic space filled with sunlight and the kind of charm that you can only gain from over 148 years in existence. It is located in a building that we own and is directly above our boutique retail store. The center city location (almost everything is walkable) is perfect for travelers, so we renovated it into a guest house!

This is a one bedroom city apartment that used to be part of a victorian era merchant's home. We did the renovation work by ourselves, by hand, with care paid to the historic nature of the building, and we are thrilled with the results. The original pumpkin pine floors are soaking in character, wide plank base boards, solid wood doors, original art deco light fixtures; all the good reminders of a different time. Those historic features meet up with the comforts of modern HVAC, polished concrete counter tops, and lighting that you can actually read in.

About 860sq Ft, this is a really wonderful space, somehow spacious and cozy at the same time.
-- The interior decor leans on mid century modern with some victorian accents. Our amazing south-facing windows let in an abundance of sunlight all day long, which is perfect for our variety of live plants.
—There is a work desk set up in a cozy corner which is perfect for your laptop.

—The gorgeous bay window area is a nice spot for reading.
— There is a queen sized bed with plenty of pillows and blankets, and several sets of sheets.

— The galley kitchen is stocked with enough essentials to prepare a meal from those special ingredients you find at central market, and coffee and tea making supplies will be on hand. There is also a local grocery store next door.
— The bathroom is freshly tiled and features a shower/tub combo. Towels are provided.

We have put a lot of effort into making this space special, and preserving what was already special about it. The 3rd and 4th floors of the building are separated and still under renovation (there will not be noisy construction activities while guests are present). This building is a labor of love, a project that we are tackling by ourselves, so while the rest of it may not be as pretty, the BnB space is absolutely lovely.


STAIRS: This is a second floor walk up. It may not be appropriate for people with mobility issues.
PARKING: We do have a free parking spot reserved for this listing. It's location is around the back of our property, and is effectively about a block from the front door. You have to walk around the block. There are metered street parking spots immediately in front of the front door - free on Saturday and Sunday on our block.
LAUNDRY: There is a laundry mat across the street. It has mixed reviews, but it’s there.
HISTORY - Starting in 1871 this was the home of the Frey family, who were tobacco merchants that ran a full scale tobacco processing and distribution operation from the property. In 1913 the property was purchased by the Beittel family, German immigrants, who ran a hardware and general store out of the ground floor store front. Interestingly, it was known for the birds and goldfish that were sold here. The Beittel family owned it until 2007. We bought this place in 2017.

We are in Downtown Lancaster City proper, just under two blocks from the central Market, and three blocks from the Convention Center. Within three blocks there are no less than 5 breakfast spots, 4 or 5 coffee shops, at least 6 lunch spots, every price point you could want for dinner, 8 or so bars, art galleries, retail shopping.... you get the picture, we are just on the edge of the action.
We are across the street from a modern McDonalds with a drive through, they kind of mess up the vibe of our historic city view. We do not recommend going to this particular McDonalds, ever.
