The Barn is not your classic big farm barn, this is a Newfoundland barn, enough to keep supplies a cow and hay for the winter. Today it is a liveable breathing space. When the wind blow, it blows a bit, so no surprises. Adventurers will like it!

Thanks Barn is next to the Cabin, the Bunky and the TEepee, all listed on Airbnb.

El alojamiento

This shed is about as old and simple as any barn can be. Originally the barn of the house, it has been converted into a livable space, with some creature comforts - heater, bed, running water, outside washroom, hot plate, sofa, table and mosquito net. This space is more like camping with a solid roof, than having a purpose built cabin. So if the wind blows through it do not be surprised, it is fun and comfortable though, but can be cold and hot depending on weather.

The barn has running water and rudimentary items for preparing a meal, we have coffee, tea, sugar, noodles and other basic kitchen items in the kitchen. A full washroom is located in the back of the adjacent Cabin. BBQ is accessible anytime - supplied with coals and started fluid.

We interact with our guests only as much as they like. If we are around then we do the meet and greet on arrival, and we are around the compound a lot working on things.

Bauline is what is called an "outport". Today we are about 1 hour from St. John's, the original settlement would have have been more than a day's horse ride from there. We are really at the end of the road, from our harbour you can go out to sea, or you go back to where you came from, or you can up into La Manche Park (hiking). Please in our neighborhood, still fish when they can, cut their own wood, some grow food, others go away to work in the oil projects, others are local carpenters. It is a colorful neighborhood.

There is no public transport available. We can help if the circumstances are dire. Car rental is limited and expensive in Newfoundland so be ready for that. We do have one shoresman who drives up and down the shore once a day and can give lifts, but your day has be planned around his schedule.

There is really no food shopping around here. The closest convenience store is 7 km, down the road and the closest supermarket is 20 km down the road, and the closest REAL market is about 35 km. All that is outlined in a package we send you before you come.

Servicios y zonas comunes

You will have a bbq, picnic tables, available as well as a washer and dryer. Full bathroom is outside of the Barn but very close and it is shared with the Shed.

Atención a los huéspedes

If we are around we will greet the guests, and if they chose to have meals with us, we offer that. We are certainly nice to people - usually.

George and Chabela open their hearts and home to all who find their way to Bauline East. The barn was as described and pictured. Muffins, blueberry preserves, and orange juice awaited us when we arrived. George and Chabela have put together a go-to guide for hikes, places to eat, and attractions in the area. Although the accommodations are close together, this lovely couple has created places of privacy for each set of guests. I highly recommend making your way to their place situated in the middle of eastern Newfoundland.

"The barn" was everything we were looking for. Located just steps from the ocean we enjoyed sitting on the front porch listening to the waves roll in. The space was well equipped with cooking supplies. The area is pretty secluded so I recommend bringing your groceries and taking advantage of the BBQ or kitchenette. The interior is cozy and includes a hammock, dining table, couch and bed. Theres even a dart board! We cannot wait to return - it was pure bliss.

The Barn was exactly what we expected and needed for our out of town vacation. Lovely hosts welcomed my family and our puppy and made us feel very welcome. the Barn had everything we needed - firewood for a beach fire, access to rain gear or extra towels/blankets, wi-fi, etc. The direction and info pack on tourist places and activities was perfect.

Had a great time. Me and my daughter went hiking and checked out the area. I would recommend a car as it's not overly close to food to eat out but it has everything needed for cooking and hiking trails are on the doorstep. The ocean is very close and there is a pond to swim across the street. Great base for whale watching and kayaking tours and all the Southern Shore has to offer. I am going back again for sure. Thanks George & Chabela. Robert and Shawmeika Glasco from Pouch Cove NL

We enjoyed the beautiful location by the water and the cozy cabin. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating. The muffins and jam were delicious and having all the essentials for cooking in the kitchen was a nice touch. Definitely recommend it.

This stay has been beyond what we ever expected! George and Chabela are incredibly welcoming and hospitable, and our stay in the barn felt relaxed and (after a week of camping) luxurious! The East Coast Trail is accessible from the barn by foot, we drove to St. John's within 45 minutes, and also had easy access to the lower Avalon Peninsula. The barn's double doors open out to a view of the quiet neighborhood and wharf, and after busy days, we spent more than one beautiful afternoon and evening grilling dinner and watching the slow comings and goings of the neighborhood. For those looking for something off the beaten path, we couldn't recommend George and Chabela's accommodations more.
