This recently renovated Mid-Century home is in a quiet neighborhood 3 blocks north of Earlham College and 2.5 miles from the Wayne County Fairgrounds. It sleeps up to 5 in 3 bedrooms, with room for an additional 2 on the living room sofa bed. It has a fully equipped kitchen (with dishwasher and Keurig coffeemaker), a deep soaking tub, gas fireplace, washer and dryer. Across the street is a wooded park with playground, picnic tables and shelters that can be rented from the city.

El espacio
The master suite features a queen-size bed, a dresser, a recliner, an electric fireplace, a TV, a desk and a comfortable desk chair. The next-largest bedroom has two twin beds that we have used a specially made kit to band together into a king-size bed, but we can separate them if you prefer (just let us know in advance if you’d like us to do that). That bedroom also has a small sitting area, an electric fireplace, a desk, a library of books for your use during your stay and a comfortable desk chair. The smallest bedroom has one twin bed, a dresser and a bookcase, but no desk.

Servicios y zonas comunes
Guests have access to the entire home, carport and yard.

Otros aspectos destacables
We have never allowed pets here, to accommodate guests who suffer from allergies to dogs or cats. This includes pets belonging to any people who may visit you during your stay.

Ubicación

Richmond, Indiana, Estados Unidos

Richmond's quiet west side was settled by Quakers who founded nearby Earlham College (three blocks to the south) in 1847. Some of the original Quaker homes include the beautiful Mendenhall brick home three doors south of this location, the Dennis house on the south side of the block on West Main, and the Peacock home on Peacock Road a block and a half to the north). These homes are nestled among the World War I-era homes to the east, the "kit" bungalows on nearby Bungalow Hill (where we live) and sprawling, post-World War II developments immediately to the west.

Just across the street is a lovely, wooded city park (Mary Scott Park) that’s great for walking, but also has picnic tables, grills, a covered shelter, swings, a playground and a cabin that can be rented for events through the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.

Adjacent to the park is a basketball court, and about seven blocks away is the Corky Cordell Municipal Pool (usually open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, with a very affordable daily admission fee, but closed in 2020 due to COVID — ask to use our beach towels!).

Within a few minutes' walk, guests will find a full-service grocery store (Needler's) as well as numerous small restaurants, from Mancino's (grinders and pizzas) to chains like Arby's and Domino's. The city's public swimming pool is just a few blocks away, and it's also a short walk to Earlham College's Wellness Center, currently closed to visitors due to COVID, but normally offering day passes for a fee.

Within a few blocks’ walk you will find two convenience stores (Speedway and Village Pantry), a full-service grocery store (Needler’s), full-service salon (Fifth & Mane) and an old-fashioned hardware store (Mendenhall’s, with great prices on candy bars!).

Also close are fast food restaurants (Domino’s, Arby’s and Speedy Cafe inside the Speedway) and local fast casual chain restaurants Mancino’s (Italian) and Hot Heads Burritos (similar to Chipotle). NOTE: If you wear a mask to protect against COVID, we recommend against going to Hot Heads. When I went there in October 2020, one staff member wore her mask incorrectly, covering her mouth but not her nose, and when I asked if they were following our Republican governor’s order to wear masks, she encouraged me to remove my mask. The other staff member had his gaiter down around his neck, then pulled it up and stepped up to the counter to prepare my meal without washing his hands before using them to put on food service-style clear gloves. He then argued with me when I expressed concerns about his hygiene.

A little further away (still walkable), you will find popular locally owned restaurants and other businesses in both historic Old Richmond and the thriving, trendy Depot District. In Old Richmond, you will find the Old Richmond Inn (fine dining, open for lunch and dinner), 5th Street Coffee & Bagels (open for breakfast and lunch), Cosmotique Salon, and Therapeutic Solutions (a therapeutic massage studio). In the Depot District, Look for Little Sheba’s (best known for sandwiches with quirky names, as well as salads, spaghetti, and gigantic brownies), Roscoe’s Coffee Bar and Tap Room, The Firehouse BBQ and Blues, The Cordial Cork (a wine bar with a limited menu), Americana Pizza, The Italian Market, Gigglebox Sweets Bakery, The Art of Hair Salon, Two Sisters Bookstore, Richmond Furniture Outlet and many other unique small shops.

To the north on NW Fifth Street is Clara’s Pizza King

A somewhat longer walk or short drive away to the west on National Road are Great Wall Chinese Buffet, Sunshine Cafe (which you could call a greasy spoon), El Rodeo (Mexican food, obviously), Subway, Dairy Queen, Burger King, CVS and several stores in the small strip mall where Great Wall is located.
