Compact & cosy little room in 2 bed house with double bunk on the bottom and a single on the top & shared bathroom. 5 min walk from Dunmow town. Grab a takeaway for guests passing through and check bus timetable below for buses to and from Stansted.

The room I am offering is my daughter's room empty during term time and also some of the holiday times as she has now departed for University. It is freshly decorated with new curtains and bedding which she has chosen so that, when she returns, it's as she wants it. It's ideal for a single guest, a couple or even a small family who might want an economic stop off between flights from Stansted. I would suggest one child on the top bunk, but depending on how old your children are, I'm sure you could top and tail with 2. If my calendar looks booked out and you are interested, please enquire anyway. I can never predict exactly when my daughter will and won't be here even though she's meant to be at home for her holidays. And if we are full and it's an emergency I do have a spare mattress I can put in the lounge for one person - obviously at a reduced rate.

You are welcome to use the bathroom of course, and I will supply you with towels. Feel free to help yourself to breakfast or tea and coffee in the kitchen. I will leave a note detailing what is on offer. I don't eat wheat, and only very little meat, and dairy is kept to a minimum but I keep these items in my freezer for guests. You can use the living room to relax in though I do not have a TV - real life is more entertaining, more active and more empowering. I work from home in my office in the garden and in the conservatory where I work with my clients. I would appreciate it on the occasions when I am working in the conservatory that you are not in the living space right next to it for the sake of my clients' confidentiality. I have wireless internet which I can give you the password for and you are welcome to piggy back on my connection. If you want to book for a week or a month, please message me. The calendar I have offered is designed for one night guests and incorporates days and times when I'm not available. But if you are staying for a period of time, as long as I'm there to let you in at the beginning of your stay, you have the full run of the house if I'm not there.

I'm here mostly all day long either in the office, or the conservatory, though I confess I'm not a morning person. I spend many evenings busy out of the house. But if there's some local information you need, from takeaways to pubs or transport I can usually sort that out fairly quickly. There are a bunch of takeaway menus in a folder in your room in case you want to use them. I don't mind you storing and preparing your food here though I warn the kitchen is fairly small and you would have to clean and tidy anything you have used. Alternatively, if you want to eat with me in the evenings, I'm happy to include you for a small additional fee - depends if you can tolerate my meat and wheat free menu and home grown vegetables! If you want to prepare any of the above foods, please feel free as long as you clean and tidy up after you.

Located in rural Dunmow we are almost equidistant between Bishops Stortford (West 10 miles), Chelmsford (South 13 miles), Saffron Walden (North 14 miles) and Braintree (East 11 miles). It's a great location if you are looking to spend a few days away in the countryside. We are also only 7 miles from Stansted though we are not on a flight path so we do not get aircraft noise pollution which is a blessing.

In the summer of 2016 and every 4 years, Great Dunmow hosts the famous Flitch Trials where contender couples go on trial, in front of a jury of 6 maidens and 6 bachelors, to prove that they have not wished themselves unwed for one year and one day. All the couples could be successful in their claim, which is vigorously defended by Counsel employed on behalf of the donors of the bacon, whose job is to test their evidence and to try and persuade the jury not to grant them the Flitch. It is a spectacle creating much mirth and celebration and the winning couple is paraded through town by men in smocks with a flitch of bacon (half a pig!) paraded behind them.

Nearby we have The Flitch Way which wends its way from Dunmow to Stansted in one direction and to Braintree in the other. This is the old railway line now converted to a really pleasant country walk leading alongside fields and creating a cool walk in summer through tree shaded paths. Autumn brings blackberries and apples along the Flitch Way so make sure to take bags or plastic pots to collect them in. Half way along the Flitch you will arrive at Hatfield Forest, an ancient royal forest, which is looked after by the National Trust and is well worth a visit.

If you are coming here for a special occasion, such as a wedding or birthday party, we are walking distance from Dunmow - just 5 minutes. If you're at a venue slightly out of town, like Thaxted, Broxted or Waltham, consider sharing taxis with people to and from Dunmow. I can give you the phone numbers of local taxi companies.

If you're on tour in the UK on push bikes or in a camper van and fancy a night in a proper bed, please feel free to park out the front for the duration of your stay with me. Bikes can be brought in round the side of the house and stored under the lean-to on the patio.

If you would like to use your stay here to get to and from London there are connections. Bus to Stansted Airport and then from Stansted to Liverpool Street in the City of London which connects you to the London Tube. Buses from Dunmow to Stansted run super early Monday to Friday and vary slightly at the weekends. The bus journey is around 20 minutes. The train to London From Stansted is around 50 minutes though it's not the cheapest way to travel. National Express buses offer a more economic option but their journey times are slightly longer. Try also Terravision buses which have very low budget fares.

35 Miles North of Dunmow is Cambridge. If you wanted to add this beautiful old University town to your tour of East Anglia it's just 45 Minutes drive from here along the M11. However, if you took the scenic route between Dunmow and Cambridge, you will discover a whole host of beautiful country villages and well worth half a pint of something in the village pubs as you travel.

Across Essex to Mersea is a popular fishing town with its tidal islets and renowned sea food restaurants. We have Vineyards, Castles, Market Towns and museums of former local trades too. There's a lot to discover about Essex and East Anglia.

Airport staff, stewards and pilots may find my room a nice and simple place to stay. We are on a bus route, just a few minutes walk from town. Dark curtains and blinds make it a fairly light proof opportunity to sleep before return flights. Longer stay pilots and staff relocating to Stansted may find my month long booking offer useful.

If you are arriving to Stansted there's a possibility I might be able to collect and deliver for a smaller fee than the taxis would take you as long as I'm free and it's not too early! Taxis cost around £22 each way. I'd be happy to make the journey for £12 each way though we need to communicate clearly about arrival times as I can only wait for 15 minutes in the airport to collect you.

Buses 133 and 42a serve Stansted Airport from Dunmow. They cost between £3 and £4 each way. They run from 5.30am ish through till late but they are only about once an hour at peak times and less at off peak times.

London is a bus to Stansted and train away. Or bus to Stansted and National Express bus to London. The whole journey might take around 1 and half to 3/4 hours in total.

If you need parking, I may be able to find space for a car outside my house at considerably less of a fee than you would pay at the airport.

I have 2 cats, Syrup and Luna, who don't mind me living here! They are not allowed in your room but I wanted to let you know in case you have cat allergies.

This is my home so I would appreciate it if you would treat it with the same respect as your own. Wet towels please draped over the banister to dry and muddy shoes left at the door. I do not allow smoking inside the house. If you wish to smoke please smoke outside. I have a lean-to over the patio which, if I'm not working in the conservatory, you can access through the conservatory. Otherwise, I have a bench outside the front which you are welcome to sit on to smoke.

I wonder how I would describe myself without reference to my religion or work. I'll lift a little bit from my site (URL HIDDEN) "I’m an emotional explorer, a sensuality seeker, and a risk taker who loves breaking through my own limitations to embrace the fear and the excitement that comes with these adventures" I'm a mother of an 19 year old. I run my own personal development business. I am a buddhist of 30+ years. My favourite books are: Of water and the Spirit by Malidoma Some which describes my longing to know more about the layers of the unseen. My favourite film? Avatar because it shows us how misguided we have become as a human race. I'm becoming fairly well-travelled and enjoying it. My favourite place so far was Prague. My favourite food is middle eastern food.

I welcome people of a broad church just as long as you treat my home with care.

And as your guest, I am happy to abide by all house rules and to do my best to not disrupt your harmony.

My life motto? Wherever you go, you take yourself with you.
I speak Spanish, German and English and a smattering of French.
