Amy

We had a great experience in the Vanuatu bungalow. The place is at the end of the town, one minute from the beach and restaurants but perfectly isolated so at night you only hear the sound of the waves and the chirps of tropical birds. All the huts are next to each other but are …

We arrived at your place and were disappointed with a sewage like smell. After spending a few hours we decided to go back to Canoa for our final days in Ecuador, for multiple reasons not exclusive to the accommodations. We spoke with Morongo and told him we would be canceling and…

Respuesta de Amy & Morongo:
So sorry it wasn't what you expected, Julie! Canoa is definitely more developed for tourism and some people prefer that. I want to point out to future guests that the sewage like smell was an issue due to heavy rainfall that has since been remedied and that Julie and her boyfriend were offered an alternate bungalow but declined.

Bungalows are ok, they all have a nice style. They are not front row to the beach (not far either, as they are in the second line so you can hear the waves from the bungalow). The bungalow we stayed was all the way back inside the compound, we were there in a national holiday and…

Respuesta de Amy & Morongo:
Alexei, what you mention is true to a degree: part of exactly what makes Mompiche so enchanting is also ironically the driver of its least attractive features! In a very isolated and relatively undeveloped fishing village, awareness of litter (and indeed even getting the trash truck to come regularly!) has been an uphill battle but there is now a "critical mass" of forward-thinking people trying to raise consciousness. And the muddy streets that you experienced during a period of very heavy rainfall are actually sandy for most of the year - Mompiche intentionally decided not to pave any roads except the main street in the interest of keeping things rustic! But it's a mixed bag, and I appreciate your comments. In terms of the beach & malecon, that is another battle we have been waging with the government, as Mompiche is in serious need of a reinforced & rebuilt malecon... but for beach access, thankfully you can head either just N or S of the town itself to beaches that don't disappear ;)

There are several different rooms available on Airbnb for La Jungla, with two different experiences. One is in the treehouse, and the other is in one of the bungalows. We stayed in one of the bungalows, after we had booked a room in the treehouse, and it was not a pleasant experi…

Respuesta de Amy & Morongo:
Brian, we are so tremendously sorry to learn of your experience! From the sounds of it, your time at La Jungla was a perfect storm of rare-yet-horribly-memorable bits of bad luck. We wish you had let us know what was wrong when you saw Morongo - this was an exceptionally difficult time for our family and we acknowledge not having been sufficiently available to guests during your 1-night stay. So very sorry! While the toilet, wifi, and booking glitch were legitimate problems, we do want to point out for future guests that the Vanuatu is (and always has been) clearly described as located in a secluded feeling tropical garden setting about 50 steps away from the ocean. The bungalows are absolutely not blocks away from the ocean, nor are represented as being oceanfront (with the exception of Kiribati). Again, so sorry for your experience!

We are an Ecuadorian-Californian family in love with what makes the tropics so amazing: abundant nature, friendly people, the ocean, a slower pace of life, the jungles, and authenticity. Currently living in California but intrinsically rooted to Mompiche, Amy is an uber dedicated…
