Our stay at Susie's apartment was for a period of 24-days in her Le Marais apartment during Paris' peak tourist season of August. Overall the stay was satisfying until you accepted the following: Positives: - great location walking distances to major sites (between 10-45-minutes) - great park we walked by everyday (Place de Vosges) - lots of restaurants including a fantastic boulangerie up the street Negatives: - zero closet storage for our extended stay in either bedrooms, the four of us lived out of our suitcases for 24-days, as closets were repurposed for her personal storage - we were assured the second bedroom would accommodate our two children (9 and 11) but made due with a blow-up mattress she offered which took over 99% of the room combined with single bed - her hallway closet is packed with her clothing, linen, hand bags, and other personal items - kitchen was acceptable, however, is stocked with her own partially used items in the fridge, freezer and cupboards Even with these inconveniences, we made an effort to make her apartment work to have a fantastic time in Paris. We've been traveling close to a year at other AirBNBs around the world and never encountered this situation before. At time of departure, her cleaning ladies reported we left the apartment in "disarray" resulting in extra sweeping (dust balls, stove top water marks, carpet vacuuming, dust on fireplace metal box) and bath tub scrubbing by them. Our stay was for more than 3-weeks and not once did we see cleaners come into her apartment. Susie's response was over-the-top and accusatory with threats of damage reports and involving Airbnb. She even suggested we hire our own cleaners to clean her apartment during our stay. Overall, for shorter stays and guests without children there's no need to look anywhere else as her apartment is quite suitable. However, for situations of longer stay and children, even these positives, I would look elsewhere to avoid headaches or hassles from Susie after departure. Staying at ones apartment for more then three weeks without a broom for light cleaning or having to be asked to scrub her bathtub/shower are irregular expectations for guests on vacation(URL HIDDEN) Normally we do not write reviews for our stays, but this is quite justifable to highlight for future guests staying in this apartment.

Susie's place offers very good location for Paris travellers. Lots of restaurants, boulangeries, cafes and bars surround the area. Metro stations and bus stops are just few meters away. Màrais district has plenty of interesting places with less of the tourist crowd that you'll find in Champs Elysee. Thanks Susie for a lovely stay at your place.

Susie's home was comfortable and in a great location near the Marais and Bastille. Her master suite and a smaller children-sized bedroom was perfect for my small family. Susie was very responsive and the flat had the basics for our stay. Note that the elevator is tight quarters if you have many bags, but c'est Paris. We are resolving an issue related to the bathroom sink - a claim that is was damaged which does not seem right at all - but that is my only qualm about my stay with Susie.

Thanks David, As the tap worked perfectly on my departure but is now no longer useable and spraying water from three cracks in the metal it will need replaced. I hope this can be resolved in the next days.

Scottish expat Susie Hollands, lives, works and breathes Paris. For the inside scoop on who’s hot and where it’s at in Paris, Susie’s your go to source of inspiration.

VINGT Paris is the only property company in Paris managed by expats with in-depth cultural and lifestyle knowledge of the city. Susie takes her clients right to the heart of the city, helps them understand which neighbourhood will suit them best and helps them integrate into French life. Susie’s passion for Paris is evident, and she loves sharing it with her clients.

Building on her success, Susie has now launched a Paris magazine for expatriates – also called VINGT Paris– featuring interviews with the people of Paris, art, culture, beauty, food and lifestyle. It's a far cry from fluffy or the clichéd; this is the real Paris.

Juggling the demands of motherhood and different business ventures is a challenge in itself, but to have achieved so much in Paris is all the more impressive. Paris does not make life easy for entrepreneurs, particularly expats! The red tape and legal requirements are a challenge, and growing a business can take a very long time.

From an early age Susie loved Paris, and like many a Francophile, she was a frequent visitor to the city, harbouring dreams of one day living the Parisian life, soaking up the atmosphere surrounded by magnificent architecture.

Susie graduated from Stirling University in Scotland and headed to London to work as Marketing Director for an online start up. She spent some great years, footloose and fancy free in London town. When the company was taken over in 2003, Susie seized the opportunity to take a much needed break from work and headed to Paris, to pursue her interest in contemporary art.

When Susie first arrived in Paris, like many foreigners, she had a terrible time trying to find a place to live. Many landlords and estate agents don’t like dealing with foreigners and the red tape was atrocious. It turned out Susie was not alone. Everyone she met after finally finding somewhere to live had had similar experiences. There was clearly a gap in the gap in the market for a property company dedicated to making the move to Paris smooth and stress free.

Susie’s first entrepreneurial venture was to set up a gallery for contemporary artists. The salon became the well-known Paris collective for international artists and art lovers called VINGT Paris.

By this time the entrepreneurial spirit had taken hold. The opportunity for a service helping foreigners buy their dream property was niggling away at her. When arriving in a new city, there is so much to think about – and struggling to find accommodation should not be one of those things.

Susie realised that with her knowledge of the French language and insider info about the city, she could help expats find accommodation in interesting lesser known parts of Paris, and help them start their own life less ordinary in the City of Light.
