Descripción

The Old Mill is a beautiful 17th century stone former watermill set in lovely gardens on an organic smallholding with a stream, woods and meadows.

The property has two double bedrooms, one of which can be turned into a twin if preferred, and a large open plan living area complete with large wood-burner and fully equipped kitchen.

The Old Mill is an upside-down house with bedrooms on the ground floor.
There is a spacious bathroom with underfloor heating and a large, Victorian roll-top bath as well as a huge walk-in shower.
Upstairs are comfortable sofas and chairs, TV and DVD player with a large selection of films.
You have your own balcony with views of the garden, bridge and stream where it's great to sit in the morning watching the wildlife with a coffee.

Guests have access to the entire property, the owners cottage is located next door with shared access to the large 3 acres of garden and surrounding fields and meadow.

I am usually here to welcome guests and always available for any queries!

Guests can walk for miles from the front door without crossing a road yet the busy seaside town of Aberystwyth and the stunning Ceredigion Coast is only 10 miles away. There are good cycle tracks locally as well as a great pub serving excellent food a mile and a half up the road. Devils Bridge Falls and steam railway are only a few miles away as is the beautiful Hafod and Elan Valley.

The Old Mill is located on a rural smallholding which features a stream running through the gardens and various chickens, ducks and wandering cats!
There is no mobile phone signal down here but guests are welcome to use my landline if needed. Internet is fine for emails/browsing but not fast enough for streaming.
Property is accessed via a track off the main road.
Small children will need to be supervised because of the stream and balcony.

Perfect stay in idilic countryside setting surrounded by hens, goslings, cats, rabbits, ducks and geese. A magical hideaway; complete peace and quiet away from the rat race. Stunning house, with absolutely everything you could possibly need. Light and airy living room, sunny terrace looking out onto beautiful gardens and river, cosy bedrooms and roaring fire in the eve. Huge thank you to Zoe who made us so welcome. Fascinating chats, a font of knowledge. So helpful. Very kind allowing us to take part in their Easter bunny family tradition, very special and booking a table for us for Sunday lunch! Location wise you are surrounded by wonderful countryside ideal for walking and cycling, Devils Bridge and Hafod Estate both close by and The Old Mill is only approx 20 minute drive from Aberystwyth which has shops/food/seaside/pier/costal walks. Rural calm and urban life all in close reach of each other so something for everyone. We absolutely loved our stay and cannot wait to return.

As warned by Zoe our sat nav took us on a mystery tour (which actually turned out to be quite magical) so it was with some relief that, guided by the directions provided by Zoe, we managed to find the track down to the valley where the Old Mill hides with ease and were pleasantly surprised to find Zoe actually waiting at the top of the track for us (though she later admitted she was collecting the post). Zoe was very welcoming, showed us around the property pointing out how to use the heating and where everything was including the essential maps, guide books and (not to be missed) box set of Hinterland together with the logs to set a blazing fire to enjoy it in front of. There were fresh eggs and welsh cakes waiting for us (as well as other essentials) and we were quickly adopted by the two cats. Having driven for over three hours we had decided to eat out on our arrival and Zoe was quick to book us a table at an excellent local pub Y Ffarmers which is well worth a visit. The Old Mill and the valley it sits in have a magical feel to them, Zoe has decorated both with a variety of collectables and reclamation finds which add to a feeling of stepping back in time (assisted further with, thankfully, no mobile phone signal) and encourage you to explore both. Zoe is a fountain of knowledge on the local area, history and little known trails so we enjoyed filling our short New Year stay with a lot of walking which ended on a high note with conquering the first peak of Cadair Idris under clear blue skys on a cold New Year bank holiday. Fantastic short break and can not recommend the location, Old Mill and Zoe highly enough.

Very idyllic little hideaway in beautiful Welsh countryside, perfectly located for coast walks etc. Really pretty stream out front of property with ducks and Geese and chickens! Amazing huge log burning stove and oodles of character with wooden beams, floors etc. Perfect if you want to escape reality and get away from the modern world but worth noting there is literally zero phone signal and internet connection was very inconsistent when we stayed there and was patchy and too slow for streaming. If your going in the winter its a bit chilly downstairs in the bedrooms and bathroom away from the log burner upstairs as there isn't actually central heating but there are electric heaters and electric blankets on the beds. All in all a lovely place to stay!

Thanks Doug for your lovely review. Yes, streaming is a problem in this area but normal broadband is fine. We're due to get superfast broadband in June/July '17. Fingers crossed!

A beautiful setting in a lovely part of the world. We went for peace and quiet and had exactly that, with walks from the doorstep and everything else nearby we had everything we needed. Zoe was incredibly welcoming and helpful, and having alfie the cat for company in the evenings was great! Would love to come back

We had the loveliest 6 day stay at The Old Mill this October with Zoe as our host. Although we were her first AirBnb clients, she has been letting this property privately for holidays for some time, so is an experienced host and is used to dealing with holidaymakers and their many and varied problems and requests (more on that later!). The setting, down a steep farm track, nestled amongst trees and next to a pretty stream is truly enchanting. The Mill's upstairs double doors open onto a rustic balcony which overlooks Zoe's pretty cottage, a beautiful greenhouse built from the remains of an old stone shed, a veg patch and beyond that, the stream. Flowers and lush growth abound (or would do in summer) and geese, ducks, chickens and cats wander without any danger from passing vehicles. You would be hard pressed to imagine a more picturesque location. The ancient mill building has been sensitively and thoughtfully restored by Zoe in recent years - clearly a real labour of love. Comfortable beds with cotton sheets, reclaimed floorboards, gently aging sofas, a well equipped kitchen area with hand built solid wood countertop plus a large bathroom (with underfloor heating, an antique clawfoot bath and a wonderful old reclaimed sink) makes The Old Mill a seductive place to relax. The main source of heat is from a large wood burner in the open-plan living area upstairs - lighting it would be a "must" in cold weather - although there are electric wall heaters to take the chill off at other times, and electric underblankets to ensure a cosy bed. There is no phone and no phone signal at The Old Mill. However, there is wi-fi - not London standard superfast broadband, but more than enough to check messages or plan tomorrow's outing. You may find a way of making and receiving calls on your phone via wi-fi (I did), but Zoe of course has her own phone for use in emergencies. There are many things to do in the local area. Aberystwyth is charming seaside town, fiercely Welsh but at the same time very cosmopolitan, with an increasing foodie scene and cultural facilities bigger than you would expect, thanks to its university. Knowing the area well, we didn't venture far this time and enjoyed several local walks (particularly one along the River Ystwyth at Trawscoed, less than a mile from the Mill and another stroll up to the ancient hillfort above the Mill as directed by Zoe). We also loved the waterfalls and spectacular autumn oak woodlands at Devil's Bridge, four or five miles away. Zoe was often around, always helpful but never intrusive. If you seek inspiration for outings or meals out, she will come up with plenty of ideas and tips, having lived locally for almost three decades. Luckily she also has plenty of friends to call on in a crisis. Our crisis came when a family member, visiting us for the evening, chose to ignore Z's advice to...

I have lived in West Wales for nearly 30 years so if you're looking for any tips on places to go or things to see I'd be more than happy to help!

I've done my fair share of traveling - South America, large parts of Asia and Europe etc, so I like to think I know what people are looking for when coming to book somewhere to stay.

I look forward to welcoming you to Wales, I hope you have a lovely stay!
