If you are coming to Pittsburgh for a day or for a month this bedroom is made for you. This master bedroom has an over-sized king size bed with a huge walk in closet. With is comes a completely remodeled bathroom with a jacuzzi and heated floors.

El alojamiento

I am listing two separate bedrooms with a private brand-new bathroom (1920 style) that has a Jacuzzi tub a shower and headed floors. Here is the description for the large master bedroom with a large walk-in closet.

The master bedroom sleeps two. The bed is larger than a king-size bed and if you have a child you might have enough room for three or the child could sleep on an air mattress. Shared kitchen, living room and dining room. Beautiful yard with private deck. Front porch with a swing. Of course there is internet access throughout the entire house. The house is is very quiet and clean. It is located on a dead end street. I have no pets. And, the house has whole house heating/AC. Each bedroom has a vent to so you can control the temperature.

If you like to go to the gym, there are several near by. I can get a guest pass for you for $10 a day or we can inquire about a weekly rate. There is off street parking for free. If you need to take the bus, please check out the schedule at (website hidden). The nearest bus stop is Kelly and Trenton or Braddock and Forbes.

The neighborhood is called Regent Square. You can walk to a movie theater, coffee shops, bars, restaurant and of course we a close to Frick Park (600 acres of woods and trails) and all the universities. Right outside Pittsburgh city limit with easy access to turnpike, parkway and local busway (takes you downtown in 20 minutes). Street parking. From the PNC baseball stadium to the Andy Warhol Museum, lots to see and do. Morning coffee/tea included.

In the morning I can offer you some tea or you can make coffee. I have sugar but usually do not carry cream or milk. If you’d rather have a hot meal, we can recommend local restaurants. I am from Europe and I grew up with wanting to save the environment. At my house your will shower with filtered water, drink filtered water and of course I recycle. Most products in the house are biodegradeable.

If you want a little taste of Europe, my place will be perfect for you.

Servicios y zonas comunes

You can use m's most of the house with the exception of the third floor. That's my personal space. There is a garden with a back porch and a front porch. If you use the kitchen or the dining room, please clean up after yourself.

Atención a los huéspedes

I am usually not at home but of course I available to answer questions. The best way to reach me is to email me.

My name is Barbara Schwarck and I am the owner of the house you are staying in. Chances are that I am either traveling myself or working long hours, so it is entirely possible that we will not meet. When I am traveling and you are in need of assistance, please call or text Beth Renshaw. She can be reached at (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) or (EMAIL HIDDEN)
What follows are a few house rules and instructions. The idea is to make your stay as pleasant as possible while taking care of the house and make it presentable to all. Thank you for coming to stay with me.
Please take your shoes off when you come in. We try to keep the house a clean as possible. Plus, I have wooden floors and marble in the bathroom, which scratch easily. You found the key in the mailbox. Please leave it on the dining room table when you leave. You need to make sure that the door latches when you close it. This is true for coming and going. Some guests gave it only a gentle pull and it stayed open all day.
You are free to use the living and dining room, kitchen, porches (front and back); if you are staying longer than one week, you can use the washer and dryer in the basement. There is a lovely back yard, and in the summer, the porch has furniture. The wifi works in the yard also, so you can enjoy working outside. The third floor and my office is my personal space. Please do not enter it or use anything in it.

Living room:
If you are watching TV, please be mindful of the noise. We have quiet hours from 10pm until 8am. This means no loud calls in your room as well. If you are watching something, please use headsets. Many people who stay with me work during the day and/or they need to study at night, so we want to be respectful of everyone’s needs. If you are eating while you are watching TV, please use a placemat and coasters on the glass table. The glass scratches easily. Please always clean up after yourself.

Dining room:
Please use it for your meals. If you are having people over, please let me know in advance. I am open to that, I just need to know. And, there is a difference between just a few people and a lot. Communication is important here.
The thermometer is located in this room. In the winter, when you are in the house you can turn it up to 68 degrees. At night and when leaving the house, turn it down to 62. It controls the whole house. The bedrooms get warm when the doors are shut. In the summer, turn the AC on. When it is very hot, leave it on all the time. When you are in the house, put it on 72 and when leaving, turn it up to 75. Again, the rooms get cooled down easily.
Make sure all the windows are closed when the furnace/AC is on.

Please feel free to use the kitchen. There is a coffee maker and a few other things in the cupboards. You are free to use everything, including the spices. You can put your food in the fridge or the cupboards. I don’t have a microwave. Some guests who stayed for longer periods brought their own. If you would like to do that, put it in the kitchen next to the stove on the right hand side. I provide dish detergent, hand soap, paper towels, etc.
If you use the kitchen, please make sure you clean up after yourself. This includes wiping off the stove and the kitchen counters. If you are running late and can’t do the dishes, it’s no big deal, just don’t make it a habit. Don’t use the dishwasher routinely, as it takes forever to fill it. Wash the dishes by hand. If you do use the dishwasher, please make sure it is full. Anything that is really dirty, like pots and pans or crusty dishes, will not get clean in there, so always wash them by hand. There is a grill outside, and you are welcome to use it.
I am big on recycling. There are two bags near the garbage can. (The foot pedal on the garbage can is broken, so you need to open it by hand). One bag is for any paper, and the other bag is for plastic (note that recycling in Pittsburgh only goes to #5), metal, cans or glass. If you are having take-out food, please make sure you recycle the containers. If you have left-overs in containers that are to be recycled, you will need to clean that out before placing in the recycling bag. You cannot recycle Styrofoam, so it goes in the regular garbage. I also compost outside the back door. I compost fresh food left-overs, i.e., peels, dead veggies, tea bags, coffee grinds. No citrus please or anything that takes a long time to decompose. Once the little bin in the sink is filled with compostable matter, please take it to the bucket outside on the back porch, just behind the door. I do most of it when I am home, but when I am not home, I would appreciate it if you could do it. I am trying to be considerate of Mother Earth.

Washer and Dryer
Both are located in the basement. I have a German washing machine. It is like a Porsche. It needs very little soap. If you are doing your own laundry please use detergent that is green, perfume and dye-free. The same is true for dryer sheets. I am allergic to that stuff. My bathroom is down there, don’t use it unless I have given you permission. Please respect my privacy and I will do the same.
The latch of the dryer door is broken. They don’t make it any more. If you want to use the dryer you can use a chair to keep the door shut. Make sure the chair is wedged in the handle.

About Your Room(s):
Your room(s) will be located on the second floor. I am renting two bedrooms. Sometimes the same party is renting both rooms. If you are the only guest in the house, lucky you, you get the bathroom to yourself. If not, the bathroom is shared with the other guest(s). It has never been a problem. There is plenty of space for everyone’s stuff.
When you arrive you will find towels in your room. You can leave them in your room or in the bathroom. They are different colors then the other guests to make it easier to not mix up.

The big bedroom has a ceiling fan. Please turn it on only when you need it. It makes a lot of noise in my bedroom. We tried to fix it, but the noise came back. The ceiling is very thin. Having said that, please use it if you are too hot. The little room has no fan, but I have a standing one if you need one. The big room has a desk in the closet as well. You can use it if you would like. Many long term renters rearranged some of the furniture. I am fine with that.

This is one of the best parts of the house. The bathroom was remodeled in 1920’s style. It has a cast iron Jacuzzi tub, shower and, of course, a sink and toilet. The room is heated with a little heater underneath the window. If you are cold, turn it on, but make sure that you turn if back off when you are not using it. The floor can also be heated, but I would prefer that you don’t use the floor heater. It doesn’t always work. When you are in the bathroom, make sure to turn the vent on. It takes the moisture out. It has a timer.

Let’s see if you figured out how to use the shower. If not, note that there is a ring underneath the spout that will divert the water to the shower head. Pull is down and twist it. Please leave the hair catcher on the drain. The tub can clog up. If you are the culprit, there is a plunger next to the toilet. Please do not throw anything but toilet paper in the toilet. It can clog up and that’s no fun for anyone.
If you did not bring toiletries, no worries. There is a bunch in a shoe box underneath the sink. Please don’t be greedy and use just what you need.

Last but not least, have a good time. Enjoy the house and the neighborhood.

Barbara's place is conveniently located at the end of a street, making it very quiet, excellent for a nice restful night. It's close to parks, stores, and bus lines. I needed to commute every day to CMU and there was a bus stop just a block away. You can walk three blocks to another bus stop (on Forbes) where two bus lines that go to CMU stop, making it hard to wait longer than 5 mins for the next bus. Nice restaurants and coffee shops are a couple blocks away. If you like mediterranean, I recommend checking out Istanbul Sofra. The house is really nice inside. The room where I stayed, second floor, front of the house, is beautiful. It gets a lot of light in the mornings. It also has a good size closet. The bed is quite comfortable. The only thing I kind of missed was a desk but there's a nice living room and dining room that made up for it. It's important to respect the rules on no noisy activities after certain hours. You can easily hear people talking in other rooms. The other guest was great on this respect, so no problems thanks again to good and clear communication on Barbara's side. Barbara's house has a nice back yard, not huge but big enough. It's really nice to have your meals out there while hearing the birds sing. There's also a clay outdoor chiminea ideal for a cozy night with friends or dear ones. Communication with Barbara was great. She was always available and personable. No surprises. Barbara takes good care of the house and offers a great cozy and clean space to stay. Parking is on the street, for free. The area is safe so no problems. All in all, I enjoyed my time in Barbara's house and would definitely come back when the occasion arises.

There is desk in the room. It is in the closet. Some guests do not want it so it stays there unless people want to use it. It is a nice size.

Respuesta de Barbara:
Yes, I did it once and it wasn't such a great experience for me. I would do it again but the renters would need to rent the house for at least 2 months.

I really enjoyed Barbara's place & neighborhood. You can easily catch a bus to downtown or groceries, or take an evening walk through Frick Park and grab an ice cream on the way back. Bedding is the duvet style- this place really does feel like Europe! Thanks to Barbara for sharing her cozy and welcoming home.
