IMPORTANT RENTERS NOTE: STARTING NOVEMBER 10, the rental space on the Ferry will shift from the Southern end to the Northern end. This is an equally attractive home, with many additional features. The Northern end has three bedrooms, all located at water level. It also has a superb, large, solarium, surrounded by the bay. Double French doors on the living room open to a small deck and expansive views of the bay.

The float containing all watercraft is right off the back deck, providing eay access to the kayaks and stand-up paddle boards. The massive kitchen has a a world-class, six burner Wolf range with built in grill.

Since we (the Tellis Family) are in the process of moving between the two ends of the Ferry, after 30 years in the Northern Unit, the place is in chaos as we do remodeling, while occupying. Photos are going to filter in over the next 12 weeks, right now there are four photos of the northern unit, right after the historic shots. Please trust us, based on our fine reviews over the past three years, that this is an equally magical place to visit and enjoy the abundant charms of living on the water in San Francisco Bay.

Yours,

Chris and Isabella

For the first time, one of the world's most spectacular homes is now available as a vacation rental. This is the American equivalent of renting a castle in Spain or an ancient stone villa in Tuscany, yet with the luxury and conveniences of a five star hotel.

The SS City of Seattle (Yellow Ferry) was originally launched in 1888. She is the oldest surviving ferryboat on the West Coast. The Ferry combines luxury and convenience in a spectacular and memorable setting. Suitable for couples or families, the Yellow Ferry offers the vacation experience of a lifetime.

The master suite on the Yellow Ferry is over 2,600 square feet, plus an 800 sq ft, Deck. One enters the Ferry into an open great room that is over 1,200 square ft, but divided into separate areas for dining and lounging. Surrounded by floor to ceiling windows looking out to the bay, the main room is both spacious and intimate. The original deck consists of three-inch thick, virgin douglas fir, inlaid with teak. You will quickly find there is a timeless and soothing quality to being surrounded by 120-year-old wooden timbers and beams.

The carpeted master bedroom features a new, California King bed. Floor to ceiling windows provide expansive views through the original paddle wheel to the Bay. Large walk-in closets add to the feeling of luxury. The private bathroom also has bay views and marble counters.

Down below, the second bedroom and bath have windows located right above waterline, where seals and waterfowl can swim up and eyeball you.

The kitchen has just been remodeled with a new Thermidor five-burner range and a double electric oven. The set up is perfect for gourmet meals or reheating your leftovers from one of the many excellent local restaurants. The kitchen is abundantly stocked with all the necessary pots, pans, utensils and appliances. There is a full table setting for 12 and uncharacteristically for a rental; all the knives have been freshly sharpened.

The Ferry is conveniently located between the natural beauty of the northern coast and the cosmopolitan charms of San Francisco. You can attend almost any event in the City and be home at the Ferry before you would find a parking place in San Francisco. A small library adjacent to the kitchen is stocked with and iPad and with books and tip and local attractions. The Ferry has high speed wireless. For water activities, the home is also supplied with a rowboat, two kayaks and two stand-up paddle boards. Surfboards, boogie boards and fins are also available.

There are an infinite variety of diversions to be found within a 30-minute drive of the boat. But often the best thing to do is simply sit by the bay with a good book, occasionally looking up to see the harbor seals or migrating waterfowl.

The same couple that owns the marina owns the Ferry. We live next door and can be there to assist with any of your questions.

Please be aware that when then you stay on a houseboat, you are a guest in a close-knit community of fellow house boaters. These homeowners have chosen to live on the water because of a shared love of nature and a considerate community. It is essential that you respect the community rights to peace and privacy and conduct your residency the same, as you would expect from a next-door neighbor.

One other caveat. The ferry is reserved for registered guests and overnight usage. We regret it is not available as an event space for weddings or other large gatherings.

Servicios y zonas comunes

The entire three bedroom house is accessible. The roof of the Ferry is off-limits as it makes leaks if you walk on the roof. Also it is not a good idea to swan dive at low tide.

Atención a los huéspedes

We live on the other end of the ferry and are available any time to help or answer questions.

Otros aspectos destacables

It is a good idea to have a car. Public transportation, except for the ferry to SF is not great. But we are a ten minute drive to the city and it is very easy to get around in a car. Also a car is useful for going to the coast or the wine country.

This is an historic house that has been in the family for 60 years. We expect our guests to treat it with appropriate care and sensitivity. The floors are beautiful but soft. No sharp heels and no moving of furniture without picking it up first. Absolutely no large parties or events.

Also the harbor is a small, closely knit community. Please respect their privacy and quiet. No running on the dock. No loud noise on the deck. Treat people with respect and you will be welcome and have a lovely stay.

What a truly unique and beautiful home the Yellow Ferry is - we were seeking nostalgia as we had lived on various floating homes many years ago - the Yellow Ferry delivered on all fronts - unique - beauty - serenity - just fabulous. Thank you to the Tellis Family for sharing such a beauty with us Catherine & Peter

This is really a special spot. Great space inside and out and a very unique experience. Beats a hotel any day. The opportunity to use the paddle board and kayak were a great bonus.

A great place to stay, lived up to the photos and the seals came and said hello too. Quiet, very roomy and homely, would recommend to all.

Beautiful location and large enough for a group of 8 to have an awesome dinner. Dinnerware, napkins, wine glasses and more all supplied for our large group. Close to San Francisco so we were able to relax at the ferry and spend time in the city as well. Thank you!

This place is perfect and the hosts are remarkably generous of their time and their water toys. We had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the water and the views and the seclusion, while also being so close to sausalito and san francisco.

We loved the Yellow Ferry and the week we spent there. It is a unique houseboat and you will enjoy the many quirky features/decorations. There is nowhere prettier when the sun is shining, the wind is calm and you are looking out from the bow of the boat. It was cold in SF that week (it was summer after all) and we did find ourselves throwing an extra blanket on the beds (plenty available) and turning on the fire a few evenings. Thanks for the many great memories we now have of Sausalito, SF and the Yellow Ferry. Bill, Kay, Charlotte and Verity,

This is a sacred space, part of the bay area cultural legacy. With water & sun & funk & global artifacts. We'll be back.

The Tellis family adopted the City of Seattle in 1956, when we discovered her beached and abandoned along the Oakland estuary. We brought her back to Sausalito, fixed her up, and in various configurations we have been living here for the past 55 years. The boat is now owned and m…
