Sion Hill Plantation is a 300 year old house in rural St James, on hillside overlooking the platinum west coast! The Orchard Apartment is part of the historic building and outfitted as an Inn let room by room, with a self catering shared kitchen.
The Apartment is the lower half of the historic plantation house on Sion Hill Plantation, set in the country side among rolling grass fields, gullies and fruit trees. The Breadfruit Bedroom is the third bedroom in the apartment and features east facing windows providing ample breeze, and a private ensuite washroom with shower. The King bed can be converted to singles, and the walk in closet is more than spacious, and includes a locking drawer for extra security. The room door locks and is not accessible by other guests of the Orchard Apartment.

Guests booking the Breadfruit Room in the Orchard Apartment have sole access to the Breadfruit Bedroom and ensuite bathroom. There is shared access to the rest of the apartment including the large, fully equipped kitchen, covered patio space with dining and lounge, indoor living room with TV. The nearby pool offers outdoor dining area as well as additional lounge areas. There is a second pool on site a short distance away which guests of the Orchard apartment are welcome to use as well. The entire apartment also enjoys free Wifi.

Our family live on the property in the upstairs portion of the main plantation house. There are also 4 other apartments a short distance from the Orchard apartment. During some parts of the year the property is very quiet and during other times there is a lovely level of sociability to be had with us and the other guests. Each apartment provides enough privacy that guests can choose to interact as much as they choose. Guests of the Mango Suite can expect there to be other guests renting the remaining 2 rooms in the Orchard Apartment and sharing the kitchen, patio and lounge room with up to 2 other couples.

This is not a bed and breakfast. The apartment offers full kitchen and all meals are up to the tenants
We are very easy going people; however we do have a few rules:
We cannot allow pets; as the apartments are not fenced. e aware that there are a few very adorable cats who like to think the apartments are their homes however.
There is no smoking within the apartments. Smokers should be respectful of other guests in the shared areas.
Sand should be washed off of feet and beach equipment before entering the pool or apartments. Outdoor showers and hoses are available for use.
We take great care of our property for you and we prefer guests who will treat our apartments and furniture as if it is their own. Please leave it the way you found it, and be forthcoming about anything you may have damaged during your stay.

Sion Hill Plantation has been my family home for my lifetime and quite a few before me. The plantation was once a working sugar plantation and therefore the plantation 'yard' as we call it, was filled with tractor sheds, silos, the managers' residence, sugar cane cutting and hauling machinery! The plantation had its own boiling house and windmill with deep well to pump water. Having the undulating lands and low soil depth that we do, sugar was never a very profitable business for us as all canes needed to be harvested by hand! We cut our last canes down in 2010, plunging us swiftly into the hospitality industry. The apartments we have for rent are the old plantation buildings transformed into lovely, rent-able spaces, and we are looking for some equally lovely guests to fill them with!
My family and myself run the accommodation business, along with a team of very dedicated housekeepers and maintenance staff. We are Canadian/Barbadians (and an Aussie for good measure), who are all well traveled and definitely do our share of bouncing around the world. On the property live 4 generations of my family, along with some long term tenants in the plantation yard, (there are a total of 10 adults and 5 kids year round, although on a property this size with so many outdoor areas and pools to hang out in, we still need to place a phone call if we want to make sure we see each other) This is the kind of property where guests can have as much, or as little social time as they like. There are definitely people here to chat with over a glass of wine at sunset, but if you'd rather read by the pool and not be bothered there is space for that too. We are the kind of hosts who like to become good friends after just one stay, we are here to help with any and everything and really enjoy making our guest's stay in Barbados and at Sion Hill the best experience!
We try our best to be frugal, recycle, grow our own produce when we can and have lots of great initiatives coming up in the near future in terms of renewable energy and permaculture. We are the type of people who will likely have you over for drinks or a BBQ while you are staying here, and there will certainly be a few sunset celebrations with a glass or 2 of wine on the pool deck. We really like our land and the space around us, we like the privacy provided by living in the country, and we like the quiet and serene feeling that Sion Hill has. We have a love of pets and have a few rescued animals, we feed the birds and love our wondering monkeys (from a distance). We enjoy the ocean and diving and belong to a few different groups and initiatives to keep our islands oceans safe and healthy and out land fertile.
