Descripción

Enjoy sharing our Black Forest farmhouse in the quiet village of Malsburg, just 30 minutes by car from Basel and under 2 hours from the Swiss Alps! The vineyards of Alsace & ancient cities of Colmar, Freiburg & Strasbourg are also within easy reach.

Am Felsen is a renovated farmhouse in the Black Forest mountain village of Malsburg, which sits at the edge of the forest at an elevation of around 700metres (2,300feet) above sea level. Malsburg is just 30 minutes drive from Basel and 4km from the resort town of Kandern, which boasts all amenities including shops, several good restaurants, 2 banks with ATM, golf, swimming pool and steam-train rides in the summer! Malsburg is peaceful and ideal for walkers, painters, photographers, horse riding, or just resting up on your journey! We have a wood-burning stove to cheer winter evenings and good home-cooked food to send you on your way!

We are a friendly English couple and love guests. We are widely travelled and love motorbikes, too! We will make you welcome and Helen loves to cook, so you'll not go hungry.

There are two Gasthaus restaurants (Hirschen and Krone) in the village of Malsburg, both serving excellent local cuisine at reasonable prices. A choice of Greek, Italian, Thai and Kurdish restaurants can be found in Kandern, just 4km down the valley. There are also plenty of shops, 2 banks, an open-air swimming pool and an 18-hole golf course. In the summer season, a charming steam train runs to Haltingen, close to Basel at weekends.

Buses run from Basel to Kandern, with connecting buses to Malsburg, but we can collect guests from Basel airport or railway stations by arrangement.

Am Felsen offers a combination of farmhouse holiday and resort, wildlife and culture (Basel's famous museums are 30 minutes away by car) The neighbours are friendly and always willing to help.

We are bikers and provide a warm welcome for those who come to enjoy the Black Forest on 2 wheels. Covered parking, drying room and bike washing facilities all free of charge!

Our guests have access to the whole house apart from our own bedroom and private lounge area.

We love to meet our guests and make them feel welcome. We may not be present in the house at all times during your visit, but will normally be around for your arrival and departure and for breakfast.

Am Felsen sits in the heart of the old village of Malsburg and is tucked against the edge of the forest, which is accessible from our garden. We love the peace, the clean air, rushing brooks, wildlife, cute goats and friendly neighbours. There is plenty of level parking on our property.

Buses run into Kandern (5 mins) and from there to mainline railway stations in Basel (ca. 45 mins) or Muellheim (ca. 30 mins). Travel to and from Basel/Mullhouse/Freiburg airport (international designation BSL) is possible on public transport, but will take around 2 hours. We can arrange to meet guests at the airport or train station by prior agreement. A pick-up fee will cover our costs.

A collapsible baby-bed is available on request. The house is equipped with free Wi-Fi internet access.

We had a very warm welcome by Nigel and his wife. We went to the swimming pool in the village and had a nice afternoon. Had diner in the village at the local Italian pizzeria. Good food, but the Italians in Italy are a little bit more friendly :-). The next morning a delicious and complete breakfast was prepared by Nigel and his wife! We had a nice talk with them. It is an excellent place to discover the "Schwarz Wald".

Stayed at the property with my 15 month old daughter. Helen and Nigel are superb hosts and made Brooke and I feel welcome throughout. The property itself is fantastic and is set in a fantastic picturesque location. I cannot recommend a stay at the farmhouse highly enough it's a must. Thanks again to you both for a wonderful couple of days. Martin & Brooke

Let me tell you about our wonderful stay with Nigel and Helen! It is people like these and experiences like this which keep me coming back to the Air BnB platform. First off, the communication was perfect; directions to the place were spot on! It was clean and cozy and very unique. All in a good way, mind you... I felt like I had gone to stay at my favorite aunt and uncles place! These are quite possibly the two coolest folks hosting in Germany. The immediate feeling of being welcome was awesome. Both of them have very interesting life stories and we found ourselves in some nice, unforced, totally relaxed conversations over breakfast which Helen prepared for us (Including Marmite! (Rare in Germany)). The house is an actual historic Barnhaus style cottage with thick walls, and loads of handcrafted details. The room was cozy but comfortable, sleeps four on two side by side twin beds and a bunk bed (all in the same room). Bathroom facilities are one of a kind with "fairy lights" (led's grouted into the floor as a pathway of nightlights to the loo), a carved stone basin to wash up in, and a semicircle shower stall with rain head and hand wand. It was so cool... plus, there is a large soaking tub if that is your fancy. The location is just a few miles outside of Kadern, so if you have an event at Black Forest Academy, and your ok with becoming enthralled by a couple of the most wonderful people on Earth... then go ahead and book!

An English family, we have lived in 4 European countries over the past 30-odd years. We speak German and Russian. We love good food and wine, motorbike touring (bikers welcome - we have a barn for parking, a drying-room and washing for your bikes). We are informal and you'll be part of the family while you are with us.
