The house is located in the the municipality of Stio Cilento, a small village about two kilometers away.
The first settlements on the site date from the fifth century BC, although the borough of Stio originated in the year 1000. The name derives from the Latin "ostium", which means entrance, to indicate the place of access to the state of Magliano, one of the five states of the Norman barony of Novi, which was part Stio together with the villages of Gioi, Capizzo, Gorga and Magliano Vetere. It was an independent "University" and boasted its own symbol, consisting of three hammers on a rampant lion.
He followed the fate of the State of Magliano and subsequent Barony until 1806, when with the end of feudalism by Joseph Bonaparte, Stio was elected chief town, and it was aggregated fraction of Gorga.
Characteristic is historical center that already in the Norman period was fortified. Recent surveys in the former church of St. Peter, in the south of the village, during the restoration works have revealed walls of medieval construction, and the type of structure built suggests that there was a fortress to control the road connecting the two castles of Gioi and Magliano.
At about 2 km from the town center, through dense vegetation and dirt paths, we come to the "Valley of the Mills": here, along a picturesque river, you can see the ruins (some dating back to 1300) of five water mills.
In some areas, the river makes some basins similar to cold pools: among them, really special is the "Puzzo re Rafaili", located downstream of a wild natural landscape and characterized by wooden stairs and stone tables and chairs.
A little further away, you can visit some important UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as Paestum (27 km) and Velia, the ancient Elea (33 km), or reach the spectacular sanctuary of the Madonna del Monte on Mt. Gelbison (1,705 meters) in the municipality of Novi Velia (18 km).
About 35 km far away, the beautiful Cilento coast, full of beach resorts with crystal clear water (Pioppi, Acciaroli), where you can taste fresh fish.
