Casa Paraíso is a quiet retreat backing right against South Mountain Preserve. Tons of local activities and wildlife. Sleeps 5 on a king, queen, & small pullout. Enjoy hiking, the private pool & hot-tub, fireplaces and colorful desert landscape!
So much! The biggest thing is that it backs directly against South Mountain Park, one of the biggest metropolitan parks in the world. More miles of hiking and mountain biking than I was able to complete during 7 years of living in this home. The flora and fauna are spectacular. Many species of desert plants, birds (we get 3-4 types of hummingbirds, roadrunners, gambles quail, the (once) occasional parrot, great horned owl and pygmy owl...). Coyote will walk behind the fence in the park, occasionally you'll see a javelina. Many types of small lizard but mostly little geckos. Casa Paraíso is 15 minutes from Sky Harbor, 25 from Old Town Scottsdale, close to the Spring Training fields (depending on which one you want), 45 minutes to the Glendale Arenas. For me there is so much I love about this home. I expect you will enjoy it as much as I do.

Welcome to Casa Paraíso!
It’s so great that you have decided to spend some time here in Phoenix. Whether you are here for vacation or business I’m certain that you’ll have a great time having this home as your base of operations.
I hope you find this guide useful. Some highlights in here are pool and hottub operation, please read it before attempting to use the hot-tub. If there is anything you think should be added, please let me know.
Have a great trip!
House Rules - Quick Notes
First off, have fun and relax!
Please make sure garage door stays closed when you are not in there.
This home is not child-proof. There are no child safety locks on cabinets or socket covers on power outlets. Children must be supervised in and around the pool at all times. If your child can open the house doors, your child can get to the pool.
Enjoy the pool and hot tub. INSTRUCTIONS ARE IN THE BACK OF THIS BINDER. If it won’t light, the gas probably needs to be switched. Call or Text me for that. No diving! The Hot Tub MAX = 102. Hotter is unsafe, lower is okay. No glass is allowed around the pool or hot tub. Plastic cups are in the cabinet under the bar.
Trash + Recycling go out Wed night. If you are here on Wed night, please put at curb.
No cigarette smoking allowed inside the house.
No burning of candles allowed.
No pets are allowed on the furniture.
No cats are allowed at all.
The door to the front loading clothes washer must be left open when not in use. Only HE detergent allowed in clothes washer. Please use provided detergent. Do not use dryer sheets in the dryer.
You may use the fireplaces. Do not burn wood. Use manufactured, environmentally friendly logs such as Duraflame, Crackleflame, etc.
Water tends to splash out of the shower in the hall bathroom upstairs. Please make sure shower curtain is closed and towel up any water that collects on the floor after use.
Although the home is right next to the park and not in a busy area, we are still in a city. I recommend that you lock your vehicle and do not keep valuables in the vehicle if left outside of the garage.
After using the cushions on the pool chairs or bistro chairs on the deck, please bring them back inside as the sun will damage them over time.
General Information and Instructions
For house questions, ideas, things to do, house emergencies or maintenance issues, etc. Please call or text me (Dan) at (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)
If I don’t respond quickly, for house emergencies or maintenance issues, contact our local manager (Sandy) at (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)
Green bin for trash, Blue bin for recycling. Recycling does not need to be separated by type. Trash & Recycling is on Thursday mornings. Please put out the bins on Wednesday night. (We occasionally have a problem with Javalinas getting into the trash. If the trash bin is knocked over in the morning, just throw the trash back into the bin to be picked up the following week. There are vinyl gloves under the kitchen sink if needed. Javalinas can be aggressive, if you see them out front, do not approach them and keep pets away.)
Washer and Dryer:
The washer and dryer are located in the garage. Only use the HE detergent that is provided. Washer can only take HE products. Do not use dryer sheets in the dryer. Leave door to front loading washer open when not in use.
Pool and Hot Tub:
See included pages for instructions on hot tub operation.
Pool service is every Friday, usually in the morning. They will enter the gate.
During the colder months the pool will most likely be too cold. Check the thermometer. If the pool temperature is under 72 or so you will most likely find it too cold for use. May I recommend the hot tub. :-)
Cushions for the bistro chairs on the deck are in the Master Bedroom Closet.
The gardener comes every other Thursday. He will enter the gate.
Wireless internet is provided for your use.
Network Name: CasaPara5 or CasaPara2
Wireless Internet Reset:
Let me know, I can walk you through reset.
Local HDTV antenna is provided.
Some DVD's are available in the TV stand.
The TV has internet video. You may log into your own account if you have Netflix, etc. Remember to log-out when you leave. We do not provide a login or service.
If you want to watch a sporting event that is not on local TV, please see suggestions for places to watch the game under Restaurants.
You may use the Playstation.
A plug is provided to play music from your computer to the speakers outside. An iPhone is not powerful enough to drive the speakers, but most pc’s are.
Board games are located inside of the coffee table.
Extra sheets are in the linen closet upstairs. The pillows for the pull out bed are stored in the drawer under the pull out.
Bath towels and pool towels are in the linen closet upstairs.
Ironing board and iron are in the closet in the queen bedroom upstairs.
We should have it preset, but if you find the temperature uncomfortable use the up and down arrows to adjust the temperature. Please only allow adults to make any adjustments.
Do not burn wood. Please use manufactured environmentally friendly logs such as Duraflame, Crackleflame, etc.
The stove uses natural gas. Turn the knob and it will click while trying to ignite. Upon ignition turn the knob to the desired level. The oven is also natural gas and may take a bit longer than you’d expect to warm up and it may smell “gassy”. If the burners will not light, the first tank is probably out. Please contact me for instructions on switching tanks (it is super simple)
There is a Weber gas grill for your use and bbq enjoyment. If the tank runs out, there is another one available inside the gate across from the grill normally. Please notify me if it runs out. Please turn grill off and the knobs on the tank to the off position after use in order to save gas. Grilling Tools are on the kitchen rack. Do not put the cover on the grill if the grill is hot. If you need a refill, the gas station @ Elliot + 48th can do that.
2 remotes are provided for your use while in the home. Upon departure, please leave the remotes and inside keys on the “key board” where found. Lost remotes cost $100.00
There is a bike repair stand in the garage for repairs, etc. There are also some tools, but not everything you’d need for major repairs. Please leave the other bikes in the garage alone.
You may use it. Use common sense. There is a bench and weights as well as exercise mats and a pull-up bar in the garage. There is also a stereo in the garage for your use.
Things to do in the neighborhood

Restaurants and Bars
Old Town Scottsdale has a lot of great restaurants, bars, art galleries, and shopping. Once you park, you can walk to most of them. For Latin American cuisine with guacamole made table side , we recommend The Mission 3815 N Brown Ave, but you should make reservations in advance. Our favorite Thai restaurant is Malee's Thai Bistro, 7141 E Main St., again, you may need reservations.
Mill Avenue, Tempe is the main street of the Arizona State campus. It's a lot of fun and there are a lot of restaurants and bars up and down Mill Avenue. For a great beer selection try World of Beer, 526 S Mill Ave. There is also a good wine bar and pizzeria called La Bocca, 699 S Mill Ave.
Four Peaks Brewing also in Tempe, but not walking distance from Mill Ave,1340 E 8th St, Suite 104. If you are looking for a local brewing company you should check this place out. They also have a full menu and patio seating. They also have one of the finest IPAs in America with their Hop Knot
