This a no-frills apartment in an older house. However it's reasonably priced, in an unbeatable location, felt completely safe, has convenient laundry facilities, and a breakfast nook next door that's stocked with yogurt, bagels, granola, cottage cheese, etc and available 24/7. Check-in was easy and I had no problems during the week I was there. Would stay there again.

To be completely fair and helpful as possible to the next guest, I will start with the positives then list the negatives of this stay. Full disclosure: I ended up cancelling less than half way through my stay. The apartment was as described - a historic old home, very basic and rustic. The location is prime for accessing campus. Parking was easy. Entry to the space was easy despite a tricky door handle. The main negatives for me were the huge noise issues (why we left and cancelled) as well as the bed. The bed felt particularly unclean. The linens were sketchy and there was no top sheet - only a comforter. Unfortunately, this "secluded" apartment is the back portion of the house and located under the stairs. With paper thin walls, you are left to the mercy of the other occupants and their choice of noise level. If you value sleep and quiet at normal hours, DO NOT STAY HERE. Our other occupants thought loud music, talking, running up and down the stairs, and moving furniture was acceptable from midnight until 5 am. Sounds exaggerated, but these revelers were in town for a football game and promptly began drinking again as soon as the sun came up. Multiple phone calls and emails were sent to Ervin throughout the night/morning in a desparate plea to reach out to the other occupants and ask for peace (our bangings and yells through the walls were unanswered) and ended in a night of no sleep. I did not hear from Ervin until OVER 24 hours later. His communication is negligent at best. Needless to say, we immediately cancelled and are waiting on our full refund. On our way out, a random man who claimed to be staff there looked surprised to see us in the apartment. He claimed they never booked out both the apartments at the same time due to the noise problems. Unfortunately, this was the case for us. Definitely clarify with Ervin before on this if you plan to chance this for the location, but his communication is terrible so good luck on getting a clear answer. I recommend the Aloft down near Glen Lennox before ever wasting your money here.

Great location, really close to walk to Franklin St and the UNC campus. The place was nice and exactly as described.

Ervin's place was as advertised. It's a private space, with parking, in a great location and relatively inexpensive. Ervin was really helpful with my questions pre-check-in. I ran into the property maintenance man and he was friendly; he asked if there were any issues or anything that needed his attention. I didn't take advantage of the shared spaces, including the free breakfast foods so I can't comment on that. What I did experience was great by itself. I would (and probably will) stay here again during another trip to Chapel Hill. Thanks for the great stay!

As I booked this apartment for 5 weeks, I would like to give a little more detailed review here. Location: The location of the apartment is great for a stay at UNC. My lab at the school of pharmacy was in 10 min walking distance. Franklin street, as well as public transportation, is also in close distance. Apartment: I arrived around midnight and the check-in was really easy with the detailed description, which Ervin provided before. The apartment itself is comfortable but everything looks used. The rooms were cleaned but not with full effort, some leftover snacks and beauty equipment were lying on the floor. I had clean sheets and fresh towels but one of the aditional blankets in the closet was really dirty. The bathroom is ok. The water was hot, the toilet seat is a little bit loose and a constant dripping from the shower head results in some ugly yellow stains in the tub. The kitchen is well equipped (except only one spoon) with everything you need and in good shape for preparing meals. The apartment is very private, but you will hear a lot from your neighbours in the other apartment in the house. Most of the time the apartment was vacant and therefore quiet. One important fact is, that the control of the AC is located in this adjacent apartment and you have to either negotiate with your neighbours or ask for the entry code to change it yourself. All in all the apartment was good enough for my stay if it wasn't about the... ...Roaches: The description mentions problems with pests in NC. Unfortunately the apartment was in deed infested with roaches during my stay. I encounterd the first one after few days and found more and more from then on. Ervin called pest control, who sprayed against the roaches after 3 days. As this didn't help they sprayed again some days later. Unfortunately roaches can not be removed from one day to another. I was not offered another apartment until I specifically asked for it. Due to booked up apartments I had to move several times in and out of the roach apartment, but in the end I could at least spend my last week in a roach free place. (Special thanks to Alexa here, who was really helpful). Center of Human Science (CHS): The apartment is a part of the CHS, which is basically a complex of several buildings with apartments which can be rented. The description is a little bit missleading in some cases. The "rudimentary" gym for example, is so rudimentary that it only consists of one bench without any weights. Also the bikes do not only require the use of an air pump but whole new tires... The breakfast nook is a nice feature. I got myself some fruits and bagels there. Sometimes you can even find beer in the fridge and enjoy it while watching basketball on the big screen in the seminar room. I spent 2 great...
