We stayed one night at the Highland House B&B in mid-September. It was off season so we had the place to ourselves. We were in the Seascape room. The room had a view of the gulf with a door that opened onto a beautiful large shared porch. A warning to light sleepers, Seascape is right over the bar of the restaurant downstairs. For us this was not a problem as it was a week night and the bar was not terribly busy. We were exhausted from our travels so we fell asleep to the noise of the bar. If you are a light sleeper, I would recommend a room on the other side of the B&B. It rained the afternoon we were at Highlands House. We had a relaxing time watching the rain from the shared porch. Fortunately the rain stopped by dusk and we headed for a walk on the beach. The boardwalk to the beach is cute. It crosses an estuary and then goes between two large beach properties. After our walk on the beach we ate dinner downstairs in the restaurant below the B&B. The food was fantastic and it was nice not to have to go far for an excellent meal. They accommodated a gluten free meal which was a huge plus. Everyone we encountered at Highland House was very friendly. Melinda showed us to our room, got us ice and then was there in the morning to serve us a generous breakfast of fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, toast and thick cut bacon. All in all it was a very relaxing stay and the porch was awesome. Whether you stay and the B&B or not when you are in Santa Rosa Beach, I would recommend eating at the restaurant.
