Our visit was perfect, and even better than we expected. The outhouse outside was actually really nice, but the indoor bathrooms were a better option in the middle of the night. The cabin was warm, despite the cold weather. I wouldn't recommend sleeping outside in the beginning of October, but I bet it would have been perfect a month earlier. We will definitely be back, as a group, and individually we've talked about bringing our families and other friends up there! Highly recommended.

If you don't like mosquitoes, are afraid of mice and spiders, this place is not for you. If you can appreciate sitting by the mighty Mississippi River and waking up to look at it in the morning, take it. They say that it is rustic and it is. I am 74 years old and it reminds me of my grandma's cabin. The main sleeping cabin smells a bit musty, but the bugs were all under control. No TV, no internet, no surprise. Some of the beds available are mattresses over camp cots. We didn't need them but can't say about comfort. It worked for us as we were just there for night and breakfast. I don't think I'd like to plan 3 meals a day there - but a crockpot and rice cooker there. Bathrooms a bit rough for a group.

We really enjoyed our stay. The host was really friendly and easy to communicate with, and the cabins really are secluded and very rustic. Generally everything was just as described, and in fact the property is way more beautiful than the photos can even capture! We did lots of wonderful bird-watching while we were there. There is a fair amount of highway noise in the distance, so that is something to consider if you're planning to book. Be prepared to have to forage for your own firewood, too. I would definitely stay here again!

Both cabins were quite rustic. The screened in porches were both fantastic for reading or just having a drink. Nights around the campfire were very nice. And the inclusion of a canoe made for some fun trips on the river. The kitchen is stocked with all the accessories you would need.

Communication was wonderful. What a great getaway! Beautiful mornings making coffee and breakfast on the campfire grill.

Both of these cabins were very charming and lovely and cozy. However, when we arrived we were wondering why the place hadn't been cleaned . . . the next morning a cleaning helper came with her husband as we were drinking our coffee and she explained that she hadn't been by to clean yet because she was told we were arriving on Tuesday, not Monday. The biggest problem were the mosquitos. They were awful- and I've spent every summer in Minnesota!!!! We were ALL eaten alive- they were getting in the holes in the screens and we couldn't relax so we ended up leaving and spending the remaining nights in a hotel in Baxter, which was very disappointing since the whole idea was to avoid a hotel. That said, I wrote to Amy asking for a refund 3 days ago but have not heard back. If the mosquitos were not so bad or if there were no holes in the screens we would have been much happier because the places/land are so very charming.
