Descripción

You will have the entire 2-story waterfront cottage to yourselves. Located 5km from Port Loring, on beautiful Big Caribou Lake. Three bedrooms. Stairs to the waterfront. Swimming from the dock.

This is a cozy, well-appointed family cottage on a very quiet lake. If you are looking to party - this is NOT the cottage for you. However, if you are looking for quiet days of swimming, canoeing and fishing, and peaceful nights - far from any light pollution - then this place is perfect!

Main cabin has living room, dining area, kitchen and 1 bedroom on first floor; second floor has large bedroom with double bed and a smaller bedroom with bunk-beds (accommodates 6 in total). Screened porch has another dining table for outdoor living.

The main cabin is at the top of a short, steep hill with quite a few steps to the waterfront. There you will find a screened gazebo and a large waterfront deck with dock. A swimming raft is just off shore. Guests can use canoe and kayak provided - lifejackets (provided) MUST be worn. Swimming and boating is at your own risk. The shoreline is rocky - no beach - but swimming is from the dock (appox. 3 1/2-feet deep at the end) with a sturdy ladder.

There is parking for 2-3 vehicles, although turning around can be tricky with more than 2.

Cottage has electricity, running cool and hot water (lake water - so not potable). Host will provide 5 gallon jugs of drinking water. Air-tight wood stove and electric base board heating. Propane BBQ is provided.

Bathroom has composting toilet, sink and small claw-foot tub with low-pressure shower. There is also a very nice outhouse with electric lights and running water.

There is a nice fire pit, and we provide roasting sticks for your marshmallows.

Well-behaved pets are welcome - although not on the furniture.

No excessive noise after 11pm.

Everything is provided (bedding, kitchen linen, bath towels, toilet paper etc., bbq and propane) so you should only need to provide beach towels (although there are spares), food & beverages.

There is no telephone at the cottage, and there is no cell phone reception here... so you will not be reachable when you are staying here!

Guests can use all parts of the property, main cabin, waterfront screened gazebo, waterfront deck and dock and provided canoe and kayak.

The sauna, motorboat and bunkie are out-of-bounds.

Host lives off-site, but will greet you to provide orientation. He will drop in every 3 days to replenish water etc., do maintenance on the composting toilet system, check supplies and help with any questions.

This is a cozy, well-appointed family cottage on a very quiet lake. If you are looking to party - this is NOT the cottage for you.

However, if you are looking for quiet days of swimming, canoeing and fishing, and peaceful nights - far from any light pollution - and skinny dipping in the lake under a universe of stars -- then this place is perfect!

Having a car is essential.

There is a liquor store, gas station with convenience store and two restaurants in Port Loring. Grocery shopping is extremely limited in this small town, so guests should plan on bringing all their groceries from home. Sudbury (to the northwest) and North Bay (to the northeast) are 1 1/4 hour drive.

Our friends and I (5 adults) and our dog Charlie had a wonderful time at Jim's cottage - September weekend! It is very well equipped, all wooden and decorated tastefully, tucked away on a nice lake, we love the outdoor / stairs / deck layout and it is also very cozy inside. Barbecue, canoe, kayak, fishing rods, screened porch, firepit for relaxing nights, board games for rainy days, everything you need in a cottage, it ticked all our criteria :) We appreciated that it was and felt like a genuine family cottage and not just an AirBNB rental. We would come back without hesitation!

Jim was there when we arrived and made us feel right at home as he gave us a tour of the property and amenities. This is definitely a cottagers cottage with wood warmth all around and some rugged terrain nearby, but with great water for swimming and some good bass and pickerel fishing a short canoe paddle away. Quiet and great star views at night.

Great place to get away and unplug. The cottage was perfect size and has the right amount of character to make you feel cozy and at home. Jim was a great host; to the point that he was comfortable meeting one of the individuals in my party, when i called him last minute saying i will be running late. He greeted my friend with warm hospitality, gave him a tour, and shared with us fresh baked butter tarts from a local bakery. That, plus the thoughtful welcome note that he left for us was indicative of the kindness that Jim exuded. He even set up the fire pit to accommodate outdoor cooking on cast iron skillets. A great and memorable weekend all in all. Taking a dip in the lake and relaxing on the patio or dock was refreshing and everything exceeded our expectations. Rooms, Washrooms, and kitchen was clean and we note how we observed that he built this cottage with so much functionality. Whether its raining or sunny there is no shortage of things to do. Thanks Jim!

Jim's cottage is simply wonderful. Quiet and rustic with great design details around every corner. Even though we arrived late Jim was very accommodating, friendly and helpful showing us around the property. A great place for quick escape on our honeymoon (love the fact it was off the grid with no Wi-Fi :)

What a great place! We were more than comfortable in Jim's family cottage. We had everything we needed. Add to that the beauty of nature and the amazing lake what an escape! We really had a wonderful time. What a beautiful place. We also walked around Loring and checked out the bakeries and stores which where pretty sweet. (Best cell phone reception, if needed, is at the LCBO about 7 min away.) Jim is definitely a Superhost , he answered all my questions for my first Airbnb experience and greeted me on the first day for a tour of the place. Highly recommended.

What a great week at the cottage. We were a bit earlier than anticipated, and Jim made us feel very welcome. We were greeted with delicious fresh butter tarts which was a lovely surprise. The cottage is lovely and easily accommodated our group of 4 adults and 2 babies. There are lots of board games, which came in handy during the couple days of rain we had throughout the week. Cottage is exactly as pictured, and fully stocked with everything to make your stay enjoyable. The lake is beautiful and lovely to paddle around in the canoe that is available to use. There is a hardware store in town that has ice cream and snacks and is only about a 5 minute drive away if you happen to get cabin fever (or rain as was our case) I honestly can't say enough good things about the entire experience and can't wait to go back.

We had the most amazing family getaway at the Cottage. We traveled from BC and had found this place on here and was not disappointed from first contact, to arrival, to check in after we left. Jim was very helpful and quick to respond to any questions and concerns we had before we arrived. The cottage was just perfect. Our kids love playing board games and swimming in the lake. You can tell this is a real family cottage that we had the privilege of making memories in on our first trip to Ontario. We have already recommended to our local friends to check this place out. The drive up was easy and not as far as it may sound. We so enjoyed unplugging and disconnecting from the internet and having the chance to really connect as a family. The cottage had all those little amenities that we forgot to pack which made the stay so easy. We were welcomed with a card and butter tarts from a local baker who's shop we went and found in town. Definitely not a lot of stores near by so be sure to bring everything you need with you. Our trip to the cottage on Big Caribou lake was a highlight of our vacation and we are so happy to have been able to experience it. Thank you to JIm.

We are very tidy, respectful guests will always leave a place as clean and tidy as we found it.
