Nestled in the peaceful quiet of the Western Catskills, La Basse Cour is a small family farm in balance with nature. Stay with us in our beautiful 1850's Greek Revival farmhouse, enjoy our farm and farm animals, and savor breakfasts made with our fresh eggs and local ingredients. Our Upstairs Suite has two double beds and a roll away twin, a private bath, and opens into a guest parlor.

Here are the recipes - enjoy! Cranberry Orange Bread 2 c flour 1 c sugar 1 ½ t baking powder 1 t salt ½ t baking soda ¾ c orange juice 1 T grated orange rind 2 T vegetable oil 1 egg, well beaten 1 ½ c cranberries, chopped or whole ½ c chopped walnuts (optional) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan. Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, baking soda in medium bowl. Stir in orange juice, orange peel, shortening, and egg. Mix well. Stir in cranberries and nuts. Spread evenly in loaf pan. Bake for 55 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool on rack for 15 minutes. Remove from pan and cool completely. Banana Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting 1 1/2 cups bananas, mashed, ripe and 2 teaspoons lemon juice 3 cups flour 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt 3/4 cup butter, softened 2 1/8 cups sugar 3 large eggs 2 teaspoons vanilla 1 1/2 cups milk plus 2 T lemon juice ½ - 1 c chopped walnuts, optional Frosting - Optional 1/2 cup butter, softened 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened 1 teaspoon vanilla 3 1/2 cups icing sugar Directions Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and flour a 9 x 13 pan. In a small bowl, mix mashed banana with the lemon juice; set aside. In a medium bowl, mix flour, baking soda and salt; set aside. In a large bowl, cream 3/4 cup butter and 2 1/8 cups sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, then stir in 2 tsp vanilla. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the lemon-milk. Stir in banana mixture. Add nuts if desired. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake in preheated oven for one hour or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. For the frosting, cream the butter and cream cheese until smooth. Beat in 1 teaspoon vanilla. Add icing sugar and beat on low speed until combined, then on high speed until frosting is smooth. Spread on cooled cake. Sprinkle chopped walnuts over top of the frosting, if desired. Looking forward to seeing you both again soon!
