The centrally heated farmhouse has been lovingly refurbished in an earth-friendly way, with many unique features inside, from stained glass to organic woodwork, and hand-printed prayerflags. Rennaldburn itself is an ever-evolving artwork filled with original multimedia artworks, many made using cameraless photography or cast in glass and illuminated.
Upstairs is the bathroom and two large bedrooms, each with a double and single bed in them. Both face West, towards the river Esk which winds through the valley, and the Loupin Stanes. This is one of many prehistoric sites in the area, including the Girdle Stanes, another ancient stone circle twenty minutes further downstream.
One family room is called Wailele ~ Hawaiian for waterfall, as it’s nearest the burn ~ and looks down onto the bird table, a hive of activity every morning.
The other family room, Loupin (as it’s nearest the Loupin Stanes), is painted with a landscape and has a tiny but useable antique French woodburner in it.
Half-way up the stairs, there is the Swallow room. Painted with rich blue earth-pigment, this little single under the eaves has a skylight to the stars.
Through a giant mousehole in the swallow room you can crawl into the secret Mousehole, a favourite with Rennaldburn's smaller guests. This pint-sized room also has a single in it ~ and a magical illuminated panel to look up at while you lie in bed.
Downstairs is the sitting room, with an open fireplace. This holds an extensive library, specialising in books of a spiritual and esoteric nature (particularly Tibetan Buddhism). There is also a DVD player and wide selection of DVDs, open-access wifi and harmonium.
The under-floor heated kitchen, with a table to seat seven (just!), as well as all cooking and washing facilities, has a door leading to the front garden and meadow.
Rennaldburn is child-friendly, with cot, high chair and child safety gates available if required, as well as a big trampoline out back by the waterfall and table-tennis table with strictly improper proportions by a pond with newts in it.

I, my curious cat, Tashi and sometimes my ninteen-year-old son, Sati live in the back of the house; the two interconnecting doors to the holiday-let side are kept shut and there are no ‘shared areas’; the front door, and all the living areas mentioned, are exclusively for your use.
Guests can access all of Rennaldburn's grounds, including our beautiful waterfall and woodland. This being Scotland, you're also free to roam further afield up the burn, which means 'stream' in Scottish; it's what gives Rennaldburn its name.
If you follow the burn about half an hour upstream through the sheep pastures (always being aware of keeping dogs under control) and hop over the fence into the Forestry woodland, you'll come across a little secret wooded glen there.
Atención a los huéspedes
I'm an artist; I live here and work from home so am nearly always around to help you with anything if needed. As well as creating fused and cast glass pieces here, I've been writing and illustrating a book about the ancient oracle known as the I Ching, Book of Changes or Zhouyi for many years now. I'm happy to do a free divination with you during your stay if you'd like. This can either answer a question you have about something, or can simply give you open guidance.

Eskdalemuir's fairly isolated; the nearest towns are Lockerbie & Langholm. For provisions, there is a village shop, and a few wholefoods for sale in the tearoom at Samye Ling, but the selection’s quite limited; I’d suggest either bringing supplies with you or stopping en route in Lockerbie (the widest choice) or Langholm. Tiny Langholm has a big co-op, but it's a bit tucked away; if going from Rennaldburn, go through the town til you reach a small petrol station on the right. Turn right directly after & then left at the bottom of the hill & you'll find it :)
Remember to bring your slippers so we can keep outside shoes to the entrance & hallway and the rest clean, dry & cosy :)
Please don't smoke in the house...and if you do smoke outside, please close the doors & windows so the fumes don't all blow straight back in!
Rennaldburn is pet friendly, as long as any canine visitors don’t chase Tash the cat or surrounding sheep. (Since he lives here we’re not suitable for those with a cat allergy).
Other than this, my expectations for guests to do as you would be done by have always been fulfilled ~ I put a lot of love into making this a uniquely welcoming, creative, healing and harmonious space and enjoy my guests appreciation of that! My intent is for your stay here to be fantastic and memorable, and I've met many wonderful folk passing through.
