VINA VILLA, Oia, Santorini:

I INVITE you to visit OIA, the northwestern village on the unique island of SANTORINI. Shaped by volcanic eruptions over 3000 years ago, the island’s caldera, with its cliff side caves and panoramic views, is an experience you will never forget.

VINA VILLA is a spacious, independent, two story house located at the top of the cliff which overlooks the picturesque harbor of Amoudi. Its bedroom balcony has an unparallelled view of the volcanic isles & caldera. The living/dining room has a sofa (accommodating a third person) plus a volcanic stone fireplace ---for those choosing a winter holiday! An internal staircase leads to the floor above with a double bedroom & its lovely balcony.

Beyond the living room is a complete kitchen –with an electric stove & oven, a fridge and a double sink. Beyond that is the bathroom, containing a shower, a sink with a marble counter top, & a toilet. There is also a large automatic washing machine.

Outside, in front of the house, there is a large deck with another table, director’s chairs and potted plants -overlooking the 250 cobbled stairs leading down to the charming harbor of Amoudi where you can swim, dine in a fish taverna or take a boat tour to the Volcanic Isles and Thirassia. There is also a road to Amoudi, if you don’t fancy walking.

The village has a pedestrian marble pathway, high above the caldera with panoramic views of the entire island. It begins above VINA VILLA and ends at St.George’s Church at the Fira road entrance to Oia. It is filled with charming gift shops, restaurants, cafes & wine bars, bookshops, art galleries, private chapels, and mini-markets. Midway is the main square with its blue domed Orthodox Church; a minute away is the Bus and Taxi Square -a short 5 minute walk from VINA VILLA.

From here you can begin your exploration of SANTORINI and visit all that the island offers: the excavation of the prehistoric Minoan village of Akroteri, the impressive citadel of Pyrgos, the black, volcanic sand beaches of the eastern coast of the island where you can swim and enjoy water sports. Or the Hellenic ruins at Ancient Thira, etc.

FACILITIES: Twice weekly cleaning service with sheets & bath towels provided;
Internet & WiFi connection.
Plus local information on places of interest on the island, access to information on car/bike rentals, local tours, boat excursions, etc.
Electric heating & fireplace for winter visitors; fans for summer.

SPECIAL OFFERS: SIGNIFICANTLY reduced price arrangement for long-term rentals, i.e., a month or more; please ask me directly for a quote.

From Oia, you can easily reach all of Santorini: -from the southern archaeological site, Akroteri, to the fortified town of Pyrgos, to the black volcanic sand beaches of Perissa and Kamari. The choice is yours.

My home is adjacent to Vina Villa and I am happy to help you plan your time here.

From my unique position, you have a panoramic view of this crescent shaped island as it lies below you. The black volcanic isles in the centre of the caldera can be visited as well as Thirasia, by boat. Local buses connect to all the villages, or you can hire a car to tour the island. Or you can walk down the donkey stairs to the caldera below for a swim and then have a meal in a taverna. Or just enjoy walking around the village.
The choice is yours.

Gracias Elaine! Mil besos : )

Elaine and Boris were great hosts. We arrived late and Boris offered to pick us up from the airport and ensure we got into the villa safely. The villa was two stories and we had a patio and balcony to view the famous sunsets in Oia. We highly recommend staying at Vina Villa.

Vina Villa is amazing - just what I needed for a relaxing trip to Santorini. It has a perfect balcony to drink local wine and watch sunsets, as groups of other tourists scramble around trying to find places to relax and watch the sun go down. It's at the northern tip of the island, quiet and peaceful, but extremely close to public transit to adventure to other locations. I visited Amoudi Bay and Armeni Beach (in close walking distance), had coffee and ice creams and seafood and amazing restaurants, and I took the bus to Fira and did the caldera side hike from Fira to Oia right back to my "home away from home." Vina Villa is clean and happy and Boris and Elaine are very sweet and helpful.

Elaine, Boris and Ramona were perfect hosts! Right from our booking, they contacted us with really helpful information such as getting from the airport, sending detailed maps to the villa and an extremely easy check-in process. The welcome was so warm and finding gifts such as wine, milk and chocolates on arrival, really added to the experience. The Villa was exactly as they promised and the the view from the upper balcony was sensational. The weather was extremely warm during our visit but with fans, and lots of windows to let the breeze in, meant it was never too hot inside. It was also great to have a washing machine in the villa which is really useful when you have a longer stay. Vina villa has an ideal location in the town of Oia, close to all amenities with mini markets, gift shops and lovely cafes in a short walking distance. Our hosts were always available throughout our stay and gave us some great local tips for some wonderful places to visit. The sunset from Oia is breathtaking and even though there were lots of tourists coming to watch it nearby the villa, we had total privacy from the balcony and never stopped to be impressed by the view. This was my first experience with Airbnb and I was delighted with the quality of accommodation, location and the wonderful hosts that we met there. Thank you Elaine, Boris and Ramona for making this a truly wonderful and unique holiday!

We really enjoyed our stay in Oia at Elaine's! The appartment was simple, clean with a great balcony to enjoy the beautiful view on the Caldeira and the sunsets (which is a must seen in Oia!) Elaine who lives next door, and Boris are great hosts, very flexible and always available when needed (to arrange your trip from/to the port/airport).

The location is truly unbeatable being not only in the heart of Oia but with the most incredible views. Accommodation is basic but works and is really all you need. Hosts are very welcoming and helpful. Thanks Boris for picking us up from the port, for the welcome gifts, and for the laughs . Shawn and Karolina

I was born in Boston, but while still a toddler, my parents moved to New Hampshire where I grew up. After receiving my BA in Cambridge, I took a trip to Europe, and stayed on in Vienna. Then I married and moved to London where I raised my three children and taught English in a private school, becoming Headmistress for my last twenty years..

During our summer holidays, we went Greek Island hopping. When the time came, I decided to retire to this very special island, Santorini. I never tire of the view: the Volcanic Isles and Akroteri in the distance; the Kastro, just a stone throw’s away; the picturesque harbor of Amoudi, a 15 minute walk down the Donkey Stairs; Thirasia Island across the bay, and beyond my gate, St Katerina Chapel and the windmill.

The village of Oia is the loveliest on the island with its unique cave dwellings and impressive Captain’s houses and marble, pedestrian pathway circling the caldera; its many quaint shops, excellent restaurants and cafes, naval museum, and countless Chapels dotting the landscape, creating a charming landscape for all. At the bottom of the 250 metre cliff, in the picturesque harbor of Amoudi. Here you can catch an island caique for a boat tour to the Volcanic Isles and Thirasia, or swim off the rocks and then enjoy a drink or dinner at a fish taverna..

My home is an old cave dwelling., at the very top of the cliffside, facing Thirasia. Adjacent to it is Vina Villa, totally independent and with a balcony bedroom that has a panoramic view of the caldera. It, too, is typical Santorini architecture, yet has all the amenities required. I live here year round with my small dog, Yota.

Those interested in archaeology can visit the Minoan site of Akroteri, as well as the Hellenistic ruins of Ancient Thira. An excellent, small collection of antiquities are housed in the Fira Historcal Museum.

If you are are a hiker, there are several unique walks. My favourites are the three hour caldera path from Oia to Fira and the one from the town of Emporio, over ridge tops, to Ancient Thira. At the end you can swim at Kamari Beach with its black volcanic sand and then eat in one of its many fish tavernas. Nearby is an outdoor Cinema where you can see recent films under the clear sky.

There are black volcanic sand beaches around the island: Monolithos, Kamari, Perissa, Perivolas, Vlyhada --where you can hire umbrellas and lounge chairs for the day. Kamari has a Dive Centre for those interested in scuba diving and other water sports.

If you want to just laze about and relax in Oia, you can sunbathe on the deck by day, watch the sunset, and then, at night, enjoy your own dinner under a clear star-studded sky, as the lighted ferry boats ply their way back to Piraeus below you, and the moon sinks into the sea. Magical moments abound.

For those who truly want to get-away-from-it-all, Vina Villa is open during the Off-Season (November-May) at greatly reduced rates. Most shops in the village close down then; however, a couple of supermarkets, butcher and baker and the Post Office and a couple of restaurants remain open.

November and December are warm enough for swimming and the visibility has to be seen to be believed. Crete can be seen from Oia on a clear day!. Vina Villa is the perfect spot for one to create his own special life. Come and try it. The choice is yours.
