Interaction with guests
We really enjoy having guests at Blue Oaks Ranch. We have lots of experience entertaining guests of all ages from all parts of the world. We are very excited to share our farm with you!
There are many activities going on at the farm. If you would like an overview of the farm and cheese-making facilities, this may be scheduled in advance, time permitting, as this is a working farm and so tours need to be scheduled around normal farm duties. Take special note that our lambs and kids are born between mid-December and mid-January. If you're staying with us during this time, we'll be happy to have you quietly observe a birthing or two.
Blue Oaks Ranch is located in the heart of the Gold Country, full of rich history and vibrant landscapes, so as you can imagine we are being especially diligent to keep our beautiful home safe from fires. Thus, Blue Oaks Ranch is a total non-smoking property. In addition, for your safety, do not go in the pastures or barn without authorized ranch staff - no one wants a cow kick! At Blue Oaks we have pet dogs and working dogs too. The beagle Phoebe, yellow lab Yellow, and Swiss Mountain dog Brienz are our house dogs and are friendly to you and your pets, but please do not pet the working dogs (the white fluffy ones living with the animals), they are on the job protecting their sheep friends. We want you to experience all the fun Blue Oaks offers but please keep your children under supervision at all times. We are in the county so please drive 5 mph on all property roads to keep the dust down. We and the animals thank you in advance for your cooperation. We are so happy to have you and can’t wait to show you around our farm where food, family and fun are number one!
I was born and raised in Switzerland on goats' milk, goat cheese, and lots of vegetables. I immigrated to the United States when I was 16, met my husband Bob, and raised three children. I sold real estate in the Bay Area for more than 25 years. In 2002 we moved to Grass Valley to get away from it all and follow my dream of making cheese like my father used to. Today I raise cows, goats, sheep, chickens, pigs, and even a few emus.
We thoroughly enjoy our Nubian Goats and Friesian Dairy Sheep for their delicious milk. As of this writing, I am milking 10 goats, 8 sheep, and one Jersey Cow. All of this variety of milk has made me into quite the cheesemaker!
Come visit our ranch, and we will ensure you have an experience you will remember forever!
