Secluded, quiet and picturesque location. All within 15 mins of Montgomery, Welshpool and Newtwon.

El alojamiento

You will have exclusive access to The West Wing of Fronfraith Hall, a notable country house built in 1863 and former family home of the renowned Canadian novelist, playright and lecturer Robertson Davies (see Wikipedia). It is set amongst the beautiful rolling, green hills of Mid Wales, close to the Shropshire border (Welsh Marches) and very near to the historic and attractive border towns of Montgomery, Welshpool, Shrewsbury and Ludlow.

The West Wing at Fronfraith Hall is a perfect setting for families, couples or small groups for holidays, short stays and weekend breaks at anytime throughout the year. It is especially idyllic during the summer months and during the Christmas/New Year period.

Up to eight people can be very comfortably accommodated with all bedlinen and towels supplied.

Surrounded by seven acres of private gardens, including four acres of lawned terraces, there are plenty of areas to relax or play in total privacy (more than one acre is set aside for exclusive access to guests of the West Wing). The surrounding gardens also feature an original walled Victorian kitchen garden and a pond surrounded by rhododendrons/woodland. It is an excellent spot to observe the local wildlife including deer, bats, red-kites, herons and buzzards (to name but a few).

Dutch and German is spoken fluently.

Servicios y zonas comunes

Secluded, peaceful, private accommodation with own entrance, plenty of parking and gardens with views overlooking the beautiful rolling hills of Mid Wales.

The West Wing has been recently restored to reflect the Nineteenth Century origins and boasts one double bedroom, one twin bedroom, an entrance hall, a bathroom and a very large open plan living/dining and kitchen area. This room is very spacious and is naturally lit by two large windows and a large seated bay window which overlooks the beautiful rolling hills of the Severn valley. A fireplace with wood burner creates a cozy atmosphere in the evening to relax by and enjoy the peace and quiet of the surrounding countryside. There is also a good selection of books and novels for you to read.

Really nice house and grounds. Super cute dog very occasionally makes an appearance too. Hosts are friendly and largely keep to themselves in a separate part of the estate. Limited things to do unless you drive for 30+ minutes but if you're able to entertain yourself in the grounds or nearby fields (great views) then it's lovely.

Laura and her family were very welcoming, and we had a lovely time at their place. There were a bottle of wine and cherries on the table upon our arrival. The house (an end-of-the-road farmhouse in a stunning setting, right in the middle of Wales) was clean, well arranged, and has been recently renovated, with a modern shower and with all functioning well. The bedroom windows have proper blinds, resulting in adequate sleeping hours even during summer. The place is calm and isolated, but strategically located so that day-trips can lead you to various attractions. We were, therefore, close to many popular points, but able to return to a peaceful and silent refuge to enjoy a calm end of afternoon and a quiet night. The lawn in front of the house is spacious and inviting, and it is fabulous to have a calm slow meal outside, enjoying the view and the pure air. Although it was summer when we went, the evenings were a bit chilly, and Laura was attentive enough to take into account the fact that we are Brazilians, and left the heating on, regardless of this increasing her costs (thank you very much, Laura!). Another sign of attention to detail: Laura left her children's toys in the house, which our daughters greatly appreciated. Speaking of little ones, there is a large cherry tree close to the house, with a swing underneath. There were cherries when we went, and the girls had a wonderful time swinging and eating from the tree. There is also a dollhouse, and Laura prepared it for the girls, which made them feel they had their own house for some hours. The children had a great time running around in total safety. Very importantly, we did get some rainy days, but the house was comfortable enough for us to just stay there. There are also many boardgames, books and a piano. Highly recommended. We plan to return.

The West Wing is absolutely gorgeous. Laura is a fantastic host and thoughtfully left us a bottle of wine to enjoy. The accommodation was spotless and beautifully decorated. We had a wonderful time and we can't wait to come back again soon.

Lovely secluded location. The kitchen/living room is a brilliant size and it was nice to be given a bottle of wine on arrival.

This is an idyllic location to get away and relax- Family of 5 with two small children. The rooms are much larger than pictured in the photos and the great room bay window view of sunset is not be missed. Laura provided toys for the kids, was very communicative and generally hosted us wonderfully. The wing is beautifully renovated and the kitchen is quite functional as we tested the full gamut of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We also enjoyed ambling about the countryside. Of note close by are some great sites- we enjoyed Powis Castle (15 min) and Elan Valley (1hr drive) in particular.
