This is a true "retro" cottage that baby boomers will recognize, from screen door creaks to old-fashioned crank windows to the pebbled hearth. If you're looking for fancy and modern - uh uh. If you want to recapture the feel of the well-loved family cottage with its one-of-a-kind construction and quirky nooks and crannies, this is it. The loft bedroom with its clerestory windows is light and airy, and with the windows open to hear the birds, feels like a tree house. The kitchen is well-equipped. and well-lit with its skylight. Our host provided a lovely "breakfast starter kit" in the fridge. Thanks Sig! Leave your technology at home and bring some books to read - no WiFi here, and a few TV channels. If you're looking to reconnect to family and nature, this is the place to be. No A/C either but every room has a fan and there's a cool breeze through when all the windows are open. Wood fireplace if it's chilly in the evening. The beach is a couple of minutes away, just across Erie Blvd for a nice morning run or evening stroll. The lot is shaded with trees, and if you're lucky there may still be a supply of birdseed to attract nuthatches, finches, chipmunks and even a cottontail to the bird feeder just outside the living room window. Sitting outside in the shade may require bug repellent.

Great location and very sweet hosts who were very helpful but if you go in the middle of June you will be overwhelmed by a 2 week hatch of what some described as fish flies. It made eating out or relaxing on the deck nealy impossible. Plus the mosquitos were pervasive. There is a lovely beach across the street but the flies were there too but the biggest problem was a lack of amenities open in June during the weekdays. We couldnt rent a boat or have lunch at the beach cafe and if you need eggs and bread - you have to drive 15 minutes each way. Great pricing in June but maybe a higher price in July is worth the convenience.

Respuesta de Sig:
Thanks for the feedback. I will update the Cottage manual to include a better description of amenity availability for the non peak months. That would be very helpful for those guests who are not familiar with the area. The fly/mosquito situation varies tremendously each year and each month. This year June was unusually bad due to the prolonged cool and wet spring. Standing water around the cottages, high water levels, the channels etc. unfortunately produced a large volume of nuisance flies/mosquitos this year. Next year June might be much better. It's hard to predict.

Great location. Spacious cottage with lovely stone fireplace. Sig was great to communicate with. Responded promptly to my questions. Would like to return when the weather was more cooperative to be able to enjoy the outdoor decks.

This is our second trip to Sig and Nancys cottage! We had a great time, much like the last. The cottage is a nice place to unplug and relax, and the beach and surrounding areas are beautiful for exploring! Thanks for having us back, we had a great stay!

Sig was very informative and the cottage was as described. Had not been to the area for years so I was so happy to see it all again. Not as much new/changed construction as I had pictured in my mind. Sig, I left you and your family a fall pumpkin lighted decoration. Enjoy and thank you for working with us.

We had a great time at Sig and Nancy's cottage. We liked that our elderly parents had no trouble with access. The area is great, beach and canal is very close. Enjoyed learning about the area from the bird banding station, which was within walking distance. The cottage it self is very comfortable. No TV which was ok. Listening to the radio was a nice change. Thanks

Sig and Nancy were wonderful hosts! Sig's response time to any questions or concerns always came within the hour, and we were provided with a more than thorough guide to the cottage and location area rarely seen in travel guides! The cottage itself was in the perfect location, with the fish biting just out back in the canal, to the short walk to the beach front. (BTW, this first time experience with the Long Point beaches have easily converted us long-time Wasaga Beach goers!) Having the windows and doors left opened with the surrounding shade offered a surprisingly effective air conditioning (just like Sig said it would) that still allowed for a fully sun-drenched private deck off the loft bedroom for the true sun worshippers. Didn't have to travel far for some terrific bird watching, as there are plenty of bird feeders generously scattered around the property. The beds were comfy, the linens clean and terrific smelling, and the entire place charmingly decorated with a nice homey touch. Would love to come back in cooler weather to test out that fabulous fire place!!
