Please read the following frequently asked questions:

How far is it to the beach, town or groceries: We are located on the first hill from the ocean for the cooler nights, bugfree life and the amazing sunsets and views. There are no nicer villas in Dominical on the beach or within "walkable distance"" even though some people advertise it. We are about 10-15 minutes by car from town, surf, beach and groceries and we like it that way. Its great to go back to the privacy of your villa after a hot day at the beach!

Cash or credit cards: Most of the activities in the area are accept credit cards but usually they have to be paid 1 day before making the trip. Restaurants and shops will take credit cards. Plus we have ATM in town But especially in the high season it can run out of money. Also US$ are accepted everywhere. Do not change at the Airport it is a complete rip off!

Travel Insurance: Travel insurance is highly suggested. Purchase your travel insurance within a week of purchasing your plane flight. We highly recommend that you add, “cancel for any reason” to your policy. Although normal trip cancellation will cover you for illness or injury, or for a travel companions illness, injury or death, it is limited to these. With “cancel for any reason” you will receive a percentage (usually 75%-100%) of all pre-paid costs. With this coverage if something comes up, a wedding, a new job opportunity, injury or illness or other unforeseen reasons, you will be also covered.

How is the weather in the rainy season: Costa Rica has a lot of different climate zones and they are all very different. So it can or almost will rain at Arenal and it can be stormy in the Caribbean and in Dominical we have sunshine. The rainy season in our area usually starts around April and goes until December so pretty much the whole year. It's for us the preferred time of the year with rain starting in the afternoon 3-4 pm which refreshes everything. Next morning sunshine guaranteed! The dry season especially March can be very hot and dry! By the way the internet weather for our area is complete nonsense and has nothing to do with reality on the ground!

How to arrive in Dominical: In general 2 main ways. You rent a car in San Jose and drive down 3 hours. You fly to Quepos with Sansa or Nature Air for about 20min and then rent a car in Quepos. Off cause there are busses taxis and but that's for the more adventure traveler. Most schedules you can find online!

What can I do in the area: Our caretaker can make reservations for tours like zip lining, diving, snorkeling, waterfalls, ... plus he can organize a massage in our Spa or in your room with Yerlin.

Awesome property in the jungle! Secluded, quiet, peaceful, and beautiful. Pictures do not do it justice. The infinity pool was so refreshing and the most amazing sunsets I have ever seen. I do suggest getting groceries in Quepos before you venture up the mountain climb to the property which at first was daunting , but after 2 or 3 times it was no problem at all. Rodney, the property manager was awesome, a great cook and very responsive to all our needs. He booked all our tours , my massage on the patio and cooked a wonderful dinner one night for us. Alexander, the owner was also quick to reply and very responsive if we had questions. I highly recommend this property and wish we could have stayed longer. I highly recommend visiting Playa Linda which had the most beautiful beach. I also recommend the river rafting excursion and taking horses up to Nauyaca waterfalls. Sibu restaurant was one of our favorites , organic and fresh and delicious choices. Awesome property, awesome trip, the friendliest people you will ever meet. Don't' think twice about booking this beautiful property.

Hands-down fantastic! We (2 ppl) stayed for 6 nights during the rainy season (late Sept., early Oct.) and had a beautifully relaxing stay at Alexander's Bali-style compound. The pool was spotless and elegant, the house was spic and span, and we had no trouble with either mosquitoes or other insects. A cute little turquoise and black frog hopped in and out over the days (a poison dart frog, so don't touch), but it was completely interested in keeping to itself. The outdoor shower at the main house had amazing water pressure and plenty of hot water. We saw no monkeys or other large animals, but the bird scene was happening each morning and late afternoon into the evening. Each day the rains came in the late afternoon and often lasted through the night. But each morning, the sun shone brightly and warm! The huge eaves of the house shelter the terrace, and we wouldn't have wanted it any other way than sitting with a nice glass of wine, an appetizer, a good book, each other, and the spectacular view. A toad family came to hang out at the pool in the rain each night and had a lot to talk about. Tips: Do your grocery shopping in Heradura or Quepos on the way. Both have large supermarkets where you can get a wide range of items, from fresh fish and meat to dried pasta and the best Avocados you've ever had. Rent a 4x4 for the drives to and from the house. The road is very well maintained, and mostly paved, but it is only about the width of your vehicle and has some steep ups and downs. My husband LOVED it, but we did not eat dinner out because there are (naturally) no street lamps and it would be pretty intense in the dark. We love to cook and the kitchen at Alexander's is a dream, so this was in no way a hardship!!! I suggest saving your dining out for lunch-time, where you can find many delicious local sodas (cafes) to enjoy. We used the gas bbq on a couple of evenings and made some amazing roasted jalapeño and tomatillo salsa. The convenient blender in the kitchen made short work of a delicious snack! Be prepared for food inside to be attacked by micro-ants if you leave it unsealed. We just either sealed everything or put it in the fridge. No big deal, and the ants are almost microscopic. This is a good idea due to the humidity anyway. There's a nice big tupperware-style container in the kitchen that we found to work perfectly for chips and bread. Zip-lock bags are easy to find at the store and were our best friends. As the pictures show, the house is Balinese and as such has big double doors along three of its sides that open completely for a total open air experience. There are also places in the main house's main room that are closed to the outside only...

The Bali House is the most beautiful and unique place I have ever had the privilege to stay. It felt like a location from a Travel Channel "Best of" episode. The house itself is beautiful, like a work of art. The area surrounding the house is lush rain forest and full to the brim with wildlife. Species we were able to see within about 20 feet of the house included toucans, parrots, parakeets, capuchin monkeys, red and blue poison dart frogs, green and black poison dart frogs, walking sticks, mantises, coatie, golden orb spiders, vine snakes, and more. I regretted not bringing binoculars and my good camera equipment. I do recommend bringing a small flash light, as walking around the house at night provides great opportunity to see nocturnal species as well. It feels very secluded and private, although there are a few other houses out of sight, through the jungle. We didn't realize that since we arrived after dark and we hope we didn't bother other people as we loudly sang Beatles songs outside. My husband and I were traveling with another couple and were joined by another family member from Costa Rica and the compound was perfect for the five of us. The pool was amazing and all of the facilities were good. We cooked in every night and had everything we needed. Although all of us fell in love with the property it may not be for everyone. If bugs, amphibians, and reptiles freak you out, you might want to find another location. They will be in close proximity on the daily and are able to get into the house easily. Ants can be a problem but we easily got around this by just keeping all of our food in the fridge (chips, bread, etc.) We had a dart frog in the living room, some sort of very fast rodent made a few appearances, and a blunt nose vine snake was chilling beside the outdoor shower. We were very startled to see about five giant bull frogs guarding the pool while swimming at night. Also, the furniture is beautiful, but is not the most comfortable. I found that the sounds of the forest and the usual evening rain was relaxing enough to make up for it. To sum up, if you want a gorgeous view, privacy, and an opportunity to meet the local wildlife, you will not find anywhere better. If you are looking for down comforters, lush bathrobes, and get scared of critters, you may want to stick to the city.
