Our home has recently been rebuilt and restored as a typical 2 storey NZ character home.Traditional features using native timber both inside and out, leadlight windows and polished wooden floors have been combined with a modern decor to create a warm and hospitable atmosphere. There is plenty of space with areas to relax whether it be in your room, in the very large kitchen/dining area, in front of the fire in the lounge or out on the deck catching the late afternoon sun.We have double glazing throughout, heat pumps and a log fire.
Please note we do have a second room upstairs which can be used if you are a party of 3 or 4. For further details see our new listing:))

There are two entrances to the house, and to your room. Whichever entrance suitable for you will be your choice. There are also two bathrooms, one upstairs and one on the ground floor where your room is. Both bathrooms have a shower and the upstairs bathroom has a bath. This large bathroom is shared by our family (Jan, Marcus and Kate) but you are welcomed to use it. The downstairs bathroom which runs off the laundry can be used exclusively for showering by you if you so wish. Both bathrooms are clean and are in excellent condition.
Should you be a party of 3 or 4, we do have an extra double bedroom which we will charge out at $75 per night. This we have highlighted already.
As mentioned above, you are also welcomed to use the family areas of our house and of course the deck overlooking the backyard.
Atención a los huéspedes
We are very keen travellers ourselves and love to share what we have in our area and beyond with everyone who passes through. In this respect, we are also able to help with planning and exploring and can even arrange accompanying you on day trips or shorter excursions if you so wish. We also understand and appreciate however, that many people wish to do their own thing and and only want their privacy at the end of a long day. Whichever way we can be involved is up to you to indicate. Either way is perfect!
The location as mentioned above makes our home a very special one to stay in. Its proximity to the airport, to Riccarton Bush, Mona Vale, Hagley Park and to the City Centre, makes it easy to either to pass through enroute to other parts of New Zealand, or simply to spend a few days in. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants, cinemas and galleries in the area plus the Saturday Farmers' market just 300 metres away. The nearby Court Theatre is also a popular venue if you are interested in the Arts and of course the Canterbury Musuem is just a walk through the park or through the beautiful Botanical Gardens. Westfield Mall which is just a 10 minute walk will meet any shopping needs you may have.
For people on business trips or those who are visiting the university our home and its location is ideal. Our internet is fast and the room has a large work area.
Airport buses stop at nearby streets and public buses stop 100 meters outside the house. The Akaroa shuttle stop is approximately 10 minutes walk away. Walking into Christchurch City Centre through Hagley Park is very convenient and takes about 25 minutes. You actually do not need a car for your stay in Christchurch since we are so central and many of the day trips are easily manageable without one as well.If you need to get to the airport or pick up a rental car, there is a reliable shuttle service and Uber.

Please note too that we have 2 young cats whom we found, or rather they found us. We do keep them contained and they are well behaved ( sometimes !)
We want our guests to be honest about their tastes and to what degree of privacy or interaction they wish to have.

We are a family, who after several years of travelling using Airbnb, are now hosting in our newly renovated house in central Christchurch. I have recently moved back from several years in Europe to take up studying psychology, and so am living back with my parents in our family home. We are all very easy going, happy to entertain but also do our own thing. All of us are pretty active; whether it be out running or in the garden, and after a long day we love nothing more than good food and wine - and of course company. As a guest in our home you can either join in or do your own thing :)
