El alojamiento

Take your pick between the island’s stylish hillside lodge or a cozy coastal retreat:

Spread out across 240 m² the three bedroomed “Te Paruparu” lodge offers incredible views from its elevated location, whereas the charming Shorebeach Cottage (max. 4 guests) is perfect for those who prefer to be in the thick of the action, located directly on the beach.

Rent an entire private island for your dream holiday. Forsyth Island (approx. 1,853 acres) is one of the largest entirely privately-owned islands in the South Pacific. It is situated in the Marlborough Sounds, a helicopter ride from New Zealand's capital, Wellington. One of the highest-elevated privately owned islands with peaks that reach 1,100 feet, Forsyth Island offers breathtaking views of the Marlborough Sounds, the outskirts of Wellington and of numerous other islands. This wonderful area has one of the best records for sunshine in New Zealand and the water is clear. Forsyth Island has 20 miles of ocean frontage and 30 miles of walking and hiking trails. It has two telephone lines, electricity lines, a major wharf, a farmhouse and sheep shearing quarters. You will be captivated by the magnificence and remarkable beauty of this unique private island!

Rates
The rental price of the incredible Shorebeach Cottage works out at only NZD 100 (ca. EUR 65) per night. This price is available on a self-catering basis and does not include transfer costs.

Forsyth Island is truly unique and ideal for a family vacation: no biting insects, no snakes, no poisonous plants nor dangerous animals!

Location
In the Marlborough Sounds, between the North and South Islands of New Zealand, just 15 minutes by helicopter from Wellington, the capital city.

Accommodation
This charming wooden cottage presents a superb base for all of your island adventures, putting the fun into functional. Boasting 2 bathrooms and capable of sleeping 4 guests across a double room and a multifunctional living- and bedroom, Shorebeach Cottage is ideal for the family trip of a lifetime.

Whether spending the twilight hours in the double bed or in the cosy single beds, a good night’s sleep is guaranteed. Located directly on the beach, the soothing sound of the sea will accompany you as you drift off and will greet you in the morning as you rise with the sunrise. With incredible views of the blue waters as soon as you push back your curtains, we’re sure you’ll wake up with a smile upon your face too.

Fragrant hydrangea flowers, an ample herb garden and a well-stocked vegetable patch can all be found to the rear of the property, meaning you’ll be greeted by the pleasant odour of New Zealand’s natural landscape whenever you open your door to this magnificent island. Further away on the gentle hillside, a herd of sheep can be found, contentedly grazing upon the lush, green grass of Forsyth Island.

A wonderful balance of dark woods and light and airy furniture, Shorebeach offers a delightful combination of New Zealand’s natural surroundings and everyday living. This delicate balance is plain to see in the cosy living area. The comfortable-looking sofa can be folded out to form 2 single beds, allowing a family of four to sleep comfortably within the property. A wonderful balance of old and new, contemporary furniture sits amongst the traditional, including a roaring, wood-burning fireplace – perfect for those cooler winter nights.

The kitchen too comes fully equipped with all the appliances one could possibly need during a private island holiday. Decked out with all the mod-cons, Shorebeach Cottage’s kitchen is the perfect place to cook up a storm on the nights when you don’t fancy being spoiled by the mouth-watering cuisine prepared by your friendly island care-taking team, Jan and Peter. A washroom complete with washing machine and tumble dryer is also available, meaning your every wish is taken care of.

Cosy, yet practical and offering incredible views of the ocean, Shorebeach Cottage is the perfect accommodation for your New Zealand exploration. Dining
Shorebeach Cottage is home to a fabulous fully functional kitchen, allowing you all the space you need to cook up a storm. Grocery shopping can be organised through the friendly island caretaker team, meaning your culinary creations couldn't be more fuss free. Alternatively, if the idea of slaving over a hot stove doesn't appeal, it's possible to enlist the help of Jan and Peter, the island caretakers. Their impressive cuisine attracts much praise. Guests are offered traditional menus based on fish and seafood and the produce of the island garden, served with the finest New Zealand wines from the well-known Blenheim vineyards. This five-star full board treatment does of course come at an extra cost, but is worth every penny, according to many previous guests. Having a barbecue on the beach of one of the gorgeous bays is yet another culinary highlight.

Activities
There are many activities on Forsyth Island: boat tours, fishing trips, dolphin watching, water sports such as kayaking, and hiking along the numerous island paths surrounded by spectacular flora and fauna. Relax in the Jacuzzi. Interested guests can also learn something about the farm with its sheep and pashmina goats.

In addition, we recommend a round trip through New Zealand to discover its many facets. The capital, Wellington, is worth a visit, and so is the wine-growing region around Blenheim. New Zealand's landscapes are spectacular, as can be witnessed in the film trilogy The Lord of the Rings. Here you can climb onto a glacier in the morning and hike through rain forest in the afternoon. Go skiing on a volcano or relax in hot springs. Discover the unique national parks and the culture of the Maori, New Zealand's indigenous peoples. Abel Tasman Park is close-by, as is the ski region of Nelson Lakes. You can go whale watching in Kaikoura (approx. 160 km from Forsyth Island).

We would be happy to assist you in planning your round trip.

Best time to travel
Generally it is a year round travel destination. The summer months (November to April) are busiest. If you are travelling during peak periods (especially the Christmas season) it is best to book ahead, as the island itself and flights are often already booked out well in advance.

Getting there
After flying into Wellington International Airport, there are several transfer options available, ranging from taking a spectacular 20-minute helicopter journey through the impressive Marlborough Sounds (approx. NZD 4.100 for 4 persons/per way) to flying to Havelock on South Island and travelling on the mail boat (Fridays only, approx. NZD 158) to your dream destination. Alternatively, there are a range of water-taxis or other boat services that can bring you to your private island destination with style. Prices for water taxis begin at NZD 350 depending on season.
