Normas de la casa

In the area where only the guest rooms and living room are: no food allowed and only clear liquids please. Kindly do not bring food or drinks into the living room or guest rooms. There is lots of light colored furniture and we want to keep the upholstery clean. But, you are absolutely welcome to enjoy these things in the enormous communal eating area, the kitchen, or the porches.

Also, no animals allowed in the area where the living room and guest rooms are. There are hundreds of animals on the property, but even they have places that are "off limits." Pets staying with us will be given fine accommodation in our bunk room downstairs. Also, there are farm dogs wandering freely throughout the property, so if your dog does not play well with others, this may not be the place for him.

Please do not wander the farm without asking John first. He'll point out the places you are free to roam. Gates can be left open easily and animals can get loose quickly. Also, not all animals are friendly, so do not just walk up to them. John is happy to make "introductions" to the animals!

Four years later and our fourth trip to Oldeststone Farm. Still the best place to stay near Charles Town and Harper's Ferry. Love it!

If you mixed a great Neil Young song with a Victorian organ sonata, you'd have the soundtrack for Oldeststone Farm. This place is obviously a labor of love for John, the gracious host and farmer who has curated a country rustic chic experience for guests, and a rambling pastoral slice of heaven for all the animals who live on the land. I visited on Easter weekend with my 4 year old daughter, who's afraid of dogs. By the end of the weekend she loved all of them and was filthy head to toe from wandering on the farm, making animal friends, and splashing in the swimming hole. About an hour from Northern VA, this was the perfect weekend getaway for us. It was close but felt far, and we loved taking a day trip to Harpers Ferry. John and Nate (knowledgeable and cool right-hand man) invited us to join them for dinner one night. We added a random selection of meat and veggies from the market, the other guests pitched in, and we all ate together in a scene suitable for a magazine editorial. Excellent people, excellent place. You leave feeling very lucky to have found it.

What an awesome place. Know that this is a legit working farm, so live it up and be ready to get dirty, interact with the animals (once you have the ok and introduction from John/Nate), and enjoy the property. The guest sleeping areas were immaculately clean, with an incredibly warm and cozy bed, and the fresh eggs were a great treat. We loved our stay, and so did our dog.

My boyfriend and I spent a weekend at Oldeststone Farm, to get out of DC for a few days. Our experience exceeded all expectation by far. We had such a wonderful time, we didn't even want to leave the farm all weekend. You can really feel all of the love and attention that has gone into this house, farm and animals. The house itself is very warm, homey and charming, and the farm is extremely well kept. Nate was a superb host, and really went out of his way to make us feel comfortable and have the best stay possible. Eating locally grown veggies, enjoying farm fresh eggs (with access to a full kitchen), and breathing fresh WV air leaves you feeling rejuvenated, coming from hustle of DC.If you enjoy being followed around by a troupe of adorable animals (house pigs, kittens, puppies, dogs, hens etc.) - you'll love your time here. We highly recommend Oldeststone Farm, and will definitely be returning.

Nate greeted us upon arrival and was very friendly and engaging. The setting of the hoe and the farm is beautiful. The animals are very varied and amazing to watch. The decor of the house is beautiful, rustic chic. The beds were very comfortable and the whole place was clean.

This was the perfect weekend getaway to forget about the world. John is easy to reach and good about getting back in touch via the airbnb site, email, text, and mobile, no matter when we contacted him. People are around (Nate the farm manager, John, and various other friends and employees), but I never felt crowded or hovered over. The farm couldn't be more beautiful, and the sounds of the farm animals was a pleasant change from city life. I loved being able to talk with the folks who live on and visit the farm, use the kitchen and living room, and then get my privacy and solitude when I wanted it in my room. The beds were so cozy with lofty featherbeds and soothing linen sheets and just the right amount of pillow-ness. And it's close enough to be easy to get to local stuff to do but still feels like a world away from home.

In 2011 I sold everything I owned to finally realize my lifelong dream of owning a farm. I'm a single dad with 3 kids, who split their time between the farm and DC. I always wanted to be surrounded by kids and animals- and now I am! I work probably 14 hours a day getting this place up, running, and sustainable. I'm up with the sun and having a glass of wine on the porch at sunset.

This is a working farm: with all the good and the bad. We've got all different types of animals: cows, pigs, sheep, horses, miniature horses, chickens, geese, ducks- even peacocks! Here you can get pretty close to the animals and most are very gentle. We've also got a few rowdy farm dogs, we get muddy and dirty, the roosters crow in the morning and you might find yourself stepping over a "cow patty" or three. Be prepared to get in touch with where our food comes from: its a real as it gets at Oldeststone Farm. I'm trying to run this place like it was in the days it was built.

In my "former life" I was an interior decorator, catering to high-end clients in Washington DC. So you'll find plenty of beautiful details in every corner of this home. It's rustic but beautiful.
