Step back in time and enter the historic Native American Cahuilla Indian village formerly named Wanapiapa (Place of Water) within the Whitewater Canyon Preserve. The Whitewater River has traveled 70 miles from the 11,503' ft peak of Mount San Gorgonio - creating this natural wild life sanctuary & oasis by the underground damming effect of the San Andreas Faultline. An Oasis of peace in a harsh land - located just 10 miles northwest of Palm Springs and two hours east of Los Angeles.

WHAT TO EXPECT?
Guests should expect privacy in a quiet and peaceful environment in nature with a river running through it! Cooler evenings, darker nights, with the massive hand carved logs providing insulation during the heat of the day (also has AC) all compliment this natural paradise in the Desert. A short walk to a flowing river through the trees makes for a reflective journey into early California. One of the best parts of staying here is having unparalleled access to the oasis & river. Wildlife includes many species of birds, the occasional mountain lion & bear passing through, bobcats, bighorn sheep, coyotes, rabbits, lizards, and more. This is a great place to paint or write, or work on your photography skills too!

You'll have access to the entire cabin. This handcrafted log cabin of massive western red cedar logs sustainably felled from British Columbia, Canada, is perched above the natural oasis made up of mature Cottonwood trees, palms, grapevines, and many other native botanical plants. This is the only river in the desert and is surrounded by rugged hillsides and meandering hiking trails where you can escape the bustle of city life while still being close enough to dine out in Palm Springs. The Bonnie Bell Oasis (just outside) was once home to the Wanakik Band of Cahuilla Indians. The Pioneer Log Cabin is beautifully rustic, however it has all the comforts you need, including a full kitchen, a bathroom with clawfoot tub, comfortable living area and amazing views of Mt. San Jacinto (10,834').

Let Co-Host Matt know if you'd like to hang out or check out some of the more 'off the beaten track' things to do during your visit. He is a Superhost and outdoor guide - he also volunteers for the local Search and Rescue team. If you bothered to read this: Book 3 nights, get the 4th one free. You'll have to let Matt know by sending him a message on Airbnb.

A very small area known as Bonnie Bell. There are only a few full time residents here and they mostly enjoy their solitude so please mind yourself and don't trespass on private land directly surrounding other homes in the oasis. Remember to check out Whitewater Preserve at the end of Whitewater Canyon Road (8am-5pm) subject to weather conditions.

The best way is to have your own car, but you can get to and from here via UBER, LYFT, or taxi cab. There is no public transportation.

Fine dining restaurants are to be found in neighboring Palm Springs and the surrounding desert region, but you will need to drive 10 miles to the nearest food and shopping - although several fast food facilities & gas stations are only 10 minutes away.

It is dark here (no streetlights) so please bring a flashlight and watch your step in the dark. We recommend not hiking alone or after dark in this natural habitat located in Whitewater Canyon.

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS:
•Palm Springs (Golf Capital of the world)
•Bonnie Bell Oasis / Cahuilla Indian Village
•San Andreas Fault
•Pacific Crest Trail
•Wildlands Conservancy / Whitewater Preserve is at the end of the canyon road, 3 miles up - once there you'll have access to thousands of acres of backcountry hiking and camping - all the way to Big Bear and beyond. Yes! the Pacific Crest Trail will take you all the way to Canada or Mexico!
•The Palm Springs Ariel Tramway: Access to 8,516' elevation.
•Joshua Tree National Park: 45 minutes drive
•Indian Canyons: A desert oasis located in Palm Springs

Wonderful hosts. Wonderful cabin. Definitely a place to call a retreat. Staying at this cabin allows rest and relaxation. Matt was very accommodating to our requests and is quick with responding to concerns. Overall, I would highly recommend if you want a place for seclusion and getting away from the city life. The wood cabin architecture is a marvel.

My friend and I had an excellent stay here over a three-day weekend. It was a lovely home base for days in Palm Springs and Joshua Tree...not too far from either! We were so glad to find ourselves in this peaceful spot; it added another dimension to our trip. Everything was clean, comfortable, and warm, and we enjoyed the views and the character of the cabin. Whitewater Canyon itself is worth seeing, and this time of year it was full of the most spectacular wildflowers, denser than anywhere else we encountered! Matt was extremely responsive and gave great suggestions for hikes and things to do. We're so glad we stayed here and recommend it highly!

The sunrise view alone is worth staying here for. Cabin is clean, modern and comfortable. Communication with the host was great. Only thing to note is to plan meals in advance, because there's nowhere nearby to run out to.

We had a terrific stay and Marcus's cabin. Matt was a great host - great communication, lovely welcome wine, and the place was super clean. I would recommend this place to anyone whose looking for a quiet place in nature. We were visiting the area to check out the Desert X show and there was an art installation at the end of the road at Whitewater preserve which is gorgeous! We hope to come back and stay again.

We LOVED this cabin. Everything was just as Marcus stated it would be- we had everything we needed and more. I usually have a hard time unplugging and not checking in with work while I am away, but this cabin made it easy. My laptop didn't come out of my bag. We will definitely be back!!
