Lugares para alojarse en Alton Barnes

Lugares para alojarse en Alton Barnes
open for NHS key workers only. Bright and airy garden room with a Scandinavian feel. A sunny morning terrace with table and chairs.
The studio was formerly an art studio and there are even some pictures on the walls that were painted in it. It is a good size space even with the sofa bed down in bed position. It has a little patio which get the sun in the mornings and is ideal for breakfast or lunch outdoors. The sofa bed is a standard double size, but very long. It has a mattress topper to ensure a good night's sleep. The Studio is ideal for walkers with their dogs; you can go through a gate in the garden into the National Trust field surrounding the property and walk up the Dene or go to the woods or downs. It is also perfect for cyclists as we are just off the popular National Cycle Route 45, and there is a shed to lock bikes in. It's a lovely, light space with big windows on all sides and black out curtains to keep the light out while sleeping.
The Lockeridge Dene is a conservation area. The land surrounding the property is owned by the National Trust and is of interest because the Sarcen stones lying in the field were used to make the nearby Avebury Neolithic Stone Circle. We are located on the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in this charming village with its stone and thatch cottages. There is a pub in the village which serves good food and local real ale. Just up a track by the house are the West Woods with amazing bluebells in late April/early May, they are a real treat to see and smell. The edge of the Downs are fantastic for walking with the Ridgeway and Wansdyke located about 2 miles away. There is a good riding stables in Stanton St Bernard and you can go riding out on the downs from there. The National Cycle Route 45 is on the doorstep for cycling enthusiasts. In addition there are many Neolithic site such as Avebury Stone Cirlce, Silbury Hill, West Kennet Borrow 3 miles away, and Stonehenge 20 miles away. Bath is about a 50 minute drive. It has the Roman Baths, The Holbein Museum, The Pump Rooms, the Costume Museum, and if relaxing is more your thing there is the Bath Spa with its natural thermal water.

¡Esperamos volver a verte pronto, Jessica!

    Anita2018-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Jessica fue un anfitrión increíble. Muy amable y servicial. Disfrutamos mucho de nuestra estancia. Todo era perfecto. Tan tranquilo y pacífico y simplemente hermoso. No podemos esperar a volver ❤️

  • Una estancia encantadora!

    Sarah2019-12-05T00:00:00Z

Nestled in the back garden of our 15th Century Cottage in a rural village, at the end of a no-through road, guests are assured of a peaceful and quiet stay. Yet with Devizes just 3 miles away, you are close enough to enjoy the bustle of this Market Town and its many interesting Coffee Shops, Restaurants and Pubs. We are situated on the edge of the Pewsey Vale and within easy access of Bath, Salisbury, Stonehenge and Marlborough.
The Annex has a king size bed, an en suite shower and toilet, a small fridge, a microwave and tea and coffee facilities. Milk will be in the fridge as well as some homemade biscuits and bananas. As there is no separate kitchen and dish washing facilities are limited to the hand basin in the bathroom, we suggest that any crockery and cutlery used (especially if you are here for a few days) is left on the table outside. I will run it through my dishwasher and return it to you by the evening.
Etchilhampton is a small rural village. There is a Community Shop and a Pub in All Cannings which is two miles away. Devizes which is a Market Town is three miles away.

    Jenna2019-08-27T00:00:00Z

Gracias Annabelle!

The Old Chapel is recently renovated to a high standard and equipped to a high standard for use as my own holiday house in England. Downstairs is the open space lounge and kitchen and upstairs are two bedrooms and a bathroom. Car parking is literally at the door. The house is well insulated and centrally heated. It is good for couples and families as well as single travellers. I enjoy the easy access to country walks as well as to the interesting market towns of Devizes and Marlborough.
A small desk with printer and second screen is located at one end of the lounge room. The centre of the room is set up for sitting with two settees and a coffee table. There is a modern digital high resolution TV attached to a Harman Kardon amplifier and speaker set to give high quality sound. This can also be used to play your own music via any MP3 device. At the end of the open space is a dining table with four chairs. The kitchen is equipped with stone bench tops, electric stove and oven.
The Old Chapel is close to Devizes (5 min), Avebury (10 min), Marlborough (15 min), Stonehenge (35 min), Bath (45 min), Lacock (25 min) and three golf courses I know of. It is surrounded by an organic dairy and egg farm. Horton is intersected twice by the Kennet and Avon canal, which is excellent for walking or narrow boating. There is, of course, a number of local pubs, including some good food ones.
  • Excelente!

Gracias Ian y Penny

My place is close to great views and art and culture. You’ll love my place because of the location, the ambience, and the outdoors space. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travellers. Close to Marlborough, Stonehenge and Devizes. Pewsey Station is 2 miles away with direct trains to London Paddington. (55 mins) We also overlook the village pub which is excellent for evening meals/lunches.
Set in this rural village two miles from Pewsey Town, this pretty cottage over looks the village Green, and is close to the Local Village Pub for drinks and suppers.

Our private annex is a perfect base from which to enjoy a quiet country escape in a rural village. Light and comfy en-suite bedroom with fantastic views, walking routes & parking. Affiliated with the Red Lion East Chisenbury, a Michelin-starred pub & guesthouse which provides some of the same amenities. Ten minutes outside of central Pewsey, close to Stonehenge/Avebury and well situated to visit Salisbury & Bath. 15 minute walk to another great village pub.
Our space is ideal for anyone looking to experience country life here in beautiful Wiltshire. The annex is located on our private property but detached from our home, giving you plenty of privacy but leaving us still accessible should you need, and ample parking. The annex has an entry hall, breakfast bar (kettle, fridge, microwave, toaster), en-suite shower room, large, light bedroom and a private deck looking out to the back garden. Splendid views of our garden and the countryside, and you may spot the chickens, ducks and horses the neighbours keep you during your stay. Everyone find the Temperpedic memory foam mattress quite comfortable. Bring your own breakfast or we can arrange a discounted hot breakfast at the Michelin-starred Red Lion pub in East Chisenbury (if booked through us on arrival) You are welcome to bring your dog- there are plenty of great walks in the area and a couple straight from the annex door. There is a map in the room for you to borrow as you like. Please know, however, if you'd like to bring your pet we collect £20 cash deposit to hold against the room cleanliness on departure.
Our village is a small rural community. You will find our little country lane and the bridalway that leads to our house absolutely charming and quintessentially English- and better yet, the property is affiliated with one of the best pubs in the country (just 10 minutes away) that you can visit to give you the full experience of Wiltshire country life. There are plenty of walking paths beginning right from the front door to explore some of the immediate countryside. A bit further afield (20 minutes) is Stonehenge or Avebury, as well as the cities of Bath and Salisbury for day trips.

Detached small cottage with its own entrance, parking and outside sitting area. Outside Easterton village up on the hill with spectacular views of Salisbury Plain, stunning sunsets, no light pollution and quiet at night. Close to many interesting sites. The cottage is one good-sized room, with central heating, shower/toilet, kitchen area and storage cupboard. Please note we have had difficulties with visitors bringing dogs. If you want to bring a dog please contact us before booking.
The cottage offers one double bed, two comfy chairs, dining table with chairs, shower/toilet, wardrobe & storage cupboard, and kitchen. The kitchen includes gas hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge/freezer and all necessary cutlery, china and utensils. The outside area is gravel with various plant containers with annual and perennial flowers and herbs, seating and table for al fresco meals. There is also a chiminea and barbecue. The property is 3.5 acres of organic pastureland where we are developing a small wood, a permaculture forest garden, submerged greenhouse for growing fruit and winter vegetables, in addition to a kitchen garden. We also have a flower meadow and paddock where we have goats arriving in the Spring, and hopefully some sheep. We have chickens (fresh free-range organic eggs usually available) and bees (maybe some honey for sale), and cats and a couple of dogs who visit every day. It is a rural area with many wonderful walks in the nearby.
The Salisbury Plain area is quite spectacular, with over 2000 tumulae, Stonehenge and Durrington Walls neolithic site, and Avebury nearby. The Kennet & Avon canal runs through the Vale of Pewsey close by. Devizes has many coffee shops and other shops, Sainsburys, Morrisons and Lidl supermarkets, an outdoor market on Thursdays, and a Farmers Market on the first Saturday of every month. There is also a lovely farm shop close by. We are 20 minutes drive from Devizes and Pewsey, where there is a mainline railway station to London and the South West, and 30 minutes from Westbury for trains to Bristol, Bath and the South West. Bristol is about an hour's drive, and the historic Regency city of Bath is about 45 minutes away. Devizes is an old market town, with reputably the larges market place in the West Country. Today it is a busy local centre for shopping with a monthly Farmers' Market (first Saturday of every month), The Shambles, a historic indoor market, and several antique shops. There is a Medieval Walk around the town, showing some very old buildings. The Kennet & Avon canal runs through the Vale of Pewsey and Devizes town centre, with the famous Caen Hill flight of locks: 29 locks with a rise of 237 feet in 2 miles (72 m in 3.2 km), a 1 in 44 gradient. Avebury is about half an hour's drive on the way to Swindon, and Stonehenge is about 20 minutes south on the way to Salisbury. You need to book well ahead for Stonehenge. There is a friendly pub with good food at the bottom of the hill, The Old Oak, and a Co-op mini-supermarket in the next village, Market Lavington, (about 15 minutes walk).

The property is a stunning self-contained thatched barn, with a south facing aspect and beautiful views over the surrounding countryside. It has been newly refurbished with a stylish modern interior and is set in a quiet country lane in the peaceful village of West Overton, three miles from the medieval market town of Marlborough and on the doorstep of the famous Neolithic sites of Avebury, Silbury Hill and the Kennet Longbarrow.
Forming part of a thatched barn structure, The Barn at Holly Lodge is completely separate and private from our house and is situated to the right-hand side as you enter the large graveled courtyard and has it’s own private entrance. The barn has been converted into a beautifully stylish self-contained accommodation with a large open-plan kitchen/dining/living room area, one large bedroom and a shower room. The accommodation has been decorated throughout in Farrow and Ball colours which blend beautifully with the exposed beams and sarsen stones. The shaker style kitchen is fully fitted with an electric oven and hob, fridge with small freezer compartment, toaster, kettle, microwave and all you need if you fancy cooking for yourself. The dining area has beautiful views over the sunny south facing courtyard garden and surrounding fields. The living room area contains a window seat and large luxury sofa – ideal for sitting down and putting your feet up after your day out exploring the area. In the bedroom the original sarsen stone walls have been exposed to provide a large bedroom containing a stylish king-sized bed. The bathroom has a large luxury walk-in power shower enclosed within a unique tapestry of tiles, a heated towel rail and quality fittings. The Barn is kept warm and cozy with thermostatically controlled electric heaters. Outside there is a private seating area for enjoying al fresco meals or a glass of wine on warm, sunny days.
The Barn is situated in a quiet, pretty and tranquil village forming part of the historic World Heritage site of Avebury, set amongst the unique chalk down lands in the Kennet Valley. 3 miles to the east is the medieval town of Marlborough, which has an abundance of shops, cafes and restaurants, including Rick Stein which has recently opened in the High Street. It hosts an annual jazz festival in July and a literary festival in September and is also famous for Marlborough College, with it’s annual Summer School over July and August. West Overton is surrounded by rolling chalk downs with lovely beautiful walks including the beginning of the famous Ridgeway. Guest can enjoy a 5 minute walk to the local pub – The Bell at West Overton – which provides locally sourced, freshly prepared meals, with an extensive wine cellar and gorgeous local ales. Other pubs are within a short drive of West Overton. Within walking distance there are many ancient sites such as the world famous stone circles of Avebury, the ancient burial chambers of Kennet Long Barrow and Silbury Hill, the largest prehistoric man-made structure in Europe. Other areas of interest include Savernake Forest, Blue Bell Woods and the market town of Devizes which is the home to the Kennet & Avon Canal with its’ famous Caen locks. The village is also a perfect place to explore areas further afield by car such as Stonehenge (45 minutes) Bath (1 hour), Bristol (1 hour) Salisbury (1 hour and 15 minutes), Oxford (1 hour and 30 minutes). Many villages of the outstanding Cotswolds’ area are within an hour’s drive away.

The double height open plan kitchen dining room, with its global aesthetic, it is the perfect space to relax in after a long walk along the canal, a days horse riding or riding your bike through the Pewsey Vale. With ample space to sit and read from a large aspect window to view the garden, it provides the much needed space for quiet downtime.
The open plan bedroom with a kingsize bed and ensuite is decorated in hues of pinks and greens, reminiscent of spring.
Stanton St Bernard is a small village of approximately 165 people. The cottage is situated on a no through road, therefore traffic is limited to locals and horses from Pewsey Vale Riding School. The village is very quiet and free of traffic noise. We have amazing walks to one of the White Horses and Pewsey Vale views.

Church Farm Barn, as the name suggests, was part of a working farm in the centre of this picturesque village. The derelict building was completely rebuilt in 2005 and converted into modern living accommodation. For the first 10 years after being rebuilt it was occupied by one or other of our two daughters. It was completely redecorated in 2016. Both bedrooms are en suite and include a walk-in shower. The Barn shares a private courtyard with Church Farm House, and is a quiet, sunny spot in a quiet village. IDEAL LOCATION if you are attending a wedding in Urchfont Church - it is a short walk away. The Lamb Inn is just a few minutes walk away. A traditional, thatched village pub serving real ales and pub food every day (except Mondays). The village shop shares the pub car park and is open every day. All the electricity supplied to these premises is from 100% renewable energy sources. Space heating is by electric storage heaters backed up with electric blow heaters. Please be aware that the kichen is very compact and does not have a full size oven.
Urchfont is a very pretty village, with at least three greens and a duck pond. Many of the houses are listed historic buildings, and there are numerous thatched buildings - the local thatching style is know as "Wiltshire Long Straw" and is unique to a small area of Wiltshire. Our home, Church Farm House, is itself a Grade II listed building with longstraw thatch. The official Listed Building description for our house suggests that it dates from 1450 and is a surviving wing from a larger Medieval hall. There is a thriving village school and an ancient church, St. Michael and All Angels. The church has a fine set of bells - as you will hear if you are here for a wedding, or Thursday evening bell practice! The community in Urchfont is very active and this is especially evident in the annual Urchfont Scarecrow Festival, a charity event, which attracts thousands of visitors to to the village. The festival always takes place over the three days of the May Day Bank Holiday (usually the first weekend in May). This is crop-circle country! For many years this part of Wiltshire has been a major centre of activity for mysterious crop-circles. Paranormal phenomena, or elaborate hoax? Who knows?!

Buckfast Tent is an en suite glamping Lodge tent very central to many places of historic interest, in the North Wessex Downs Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty and next to the Kennet and Avon Canal with hundreds of miles of bridleway and footpaths on the doorstep. Slow down, cook on a wood fired stove, play board games with the kids in candlelight. Sit on the veranda and take in skies where you cannot see space for the stars.
There is so much to do and many places to go but here are some ideas: -Marlborough is a lovely small town to spend at least half a day in. It has amazing restaurants, pubs and cafes. The Marlborough pub is great for cocktails and fantastic food and Rick Stein or Dans Place is great for a treat. It has many lovely shops and has lots happening such as the jazz festival (July), Marlborough College summer schools and concerts, and Marlborough mop in the autumn to name a few. -Devizes, the other way, has a lovely little museum, Hillworth Park and café and Wadworth Brewery tours and tastings. It has lots of antique and vintage shops and some lovely restaurants and cafes; Sprout do great milkshakes and homemade cake and lunches; the Peppermill is a lovely restaurant and does great cocktails; the Vault for a huge variety of artisan beer and homemade pies; the Bistro which has superb naturally balanced food and has speciality nights; Jack Spratts in the Market Place opens in the evenings Fridays and Saturdays and cooks Spanish tapas which is great for sharing with friends and with a lovely view out of the window. It also has a very old sweet little cinema showing the latest films. -Bath is about 45 mins drive west of us. It is a beautiful old city with so much to recommend. Firstly, for me, is the Bath Spa which welcomes men and women and is a lovely treat for a few hours using the spa water. People travel wide and far to go to the Roman Baths and see the architecture. The shops are worth the trip alone and it has over 500 eateries recommended on Trip Advisor. The wonderful Holburne Museum is free and a great way to spend an hour, also the Fashion Museum is great with lots of costumes to try on! The Pump Rooms are where people have been taking afternoon tea for centuries and frankly, there are better places but history is bought alive here (read Austin!). Sports fans will know THE place to go is Bath Rugby pitch in the middle of the city! -Salisbury is about 45 mins drive south of us. The cathedral dominates the city and is a must to visit. Bishops Cannings, the next village, has a church based on Salisbury Cathedral because the Bishop of Salisbury owned everything in the area at one time and had his summer residence here! There is a lovely market Saturdays and Tuesdays and lots of little shops. -Swindon is 25 mins east of us. It houses all the bad weather activities! Tampoline parks, ice skating, lots of cinemas, bowling, eat as much as you etc etc. It also has an excellent shopping outlet – Swindon Designer Outlet and a railway museum – the Steam Museum. -Avebury is an excellent trip. It’s all run by the National Trust now and is great place to walk the dog and take the children as the house is wonderful and very interactive. There is a museum which is very interesting explaining some of the weird and wonderful sites you will see around here such as Silbury Hill and our longbarrows. Whilst in Avebury a trip to see West Kennet Longbarrow is a must as you can enter the chambers and it’s a lovely 30 minute stroll with dramatic views over the hills. Lacock is a favourite place for us. The village is owned by the National Trust and is used in many films. It is exceptionally pretty and has a few tearooms – King Alfreds is good and in a very pretty garden, a very lovely jewellery shop - Watlings, Lacock Abbey in which Harry Potter was filmed and there are always lots of activities and events held here, also the Fox Talbot Museum of Photography. It’s about 20 mins drive. -Most people head to Stonehenge which has improved in the past 20 years. Great museum there now and visitor parking as when I was a child you pulled up on the roadside and ran around the stones with no idea why we were doing it! We also have a very local henge in Marden which is being dug out as I write this! The Vale of Pewsey, after Germanica was lost to the Romans was where they grew all the corn and they now think it houses more Roman villa ruins than anywhere else. We keep looking with the metal detector but haven’t found anything yet! -Bowood House is a great day out with a picnic. It has extensive grounds, beautiful house and lots to do with children including a brilliant adventure park. We have plenty of pubs locally to recommend; -The Bridge is the village pub and is popular for pub fare and there is a nice walk along the canal which is about 1.5 miles each way. -The Crown in Bishops Cannings, again does pub fare and we use it to walk to with Percy and the girls for a bowl of chips, a pint and an excellent game of crazy golf – it’s a half an hour walk the quick way or just over an hour across the hills. -The Kings Arms in All Cannings is a friendly pub with nice food and they also hold a music festival once a year (Kings Arms Rock Against Cancer) – it’s about an hours walk along the canal. -The New Inn in Coate is about 45 minutes’ walk across fields. -Honey Street Café is highly recommended and is further along the canal from All Cannings – a good few hours or 5 minutes in the car. The food is superb and all homemade and the cakes are out of this world! Good place for late brunch on a sunny day followed by cake! Also a lovely place to walk along the canal afterwards to walk off the calories. Please let us know if you have any recommendations or places you wouldn’t return to so that we can pass this on to other guests. Thanks!
