The Lake District is a World Heritage Site, and High Park is located in the most beautiful part of the area. This farmhouse, once owned by Beatrix Potter, is situated on the Cumbria Way. The views are fantastic and at night, the silence is total. We offer a King size double bed, a private bathroom and a breakfast cooked to your specific requirements.
Extraordinary silence at night, coupled with a true dark sky, make staying at High Park a unique experience. Your room has a king size bed, a HD TV that also plays DVDs, a small fridge and free WiFi. Your bathroom has both a bath and shower.
We are in a secluded valley, but right in the middle of the Lake District. We offer peace and tranquility - and as one of our friends said recently, 'Probably the best view from the garden to be found in England'. The down side of this is that if you are looking for excitement and things to do in the evening, High Park might not be a good choice for you. There are a couple of pubs within reasonable walking distance (20 - 30 minutes) and they serve evening meals and bar snacks. Both Ambleside and Coniston (approx 5 miles away) offer a wide variety of pubs, cafes and restaurants.

Fermain Cottage is a charming lakeland home that has been lovingly renovated over the years to a high standard. It is a three storey property on a peaceful road, just a very short walk from Ambleside town centre. With ample parking for two vehicles, it is a perfect base from which to explore everything the Lake District has to offer. A tranquil, cosy and memorable place to stay, for up to five people. We are a strictly dog-free cottage.
The front door opens straight into a newly renovated and well equipped kitchen area. The oven, gas hob and microwave gives you plenty of cooking options. There is a fridge / freezer, kettle, Nespresso Coffee Machine and dishwasher. There are plenty of pots, pans, crockery, glassware and cooking utensils - everything you need for a self-catered holiday. Stone floors lead through to the living room where there is a dining table / chairs and two sofas. There is a wall mounted television and a wood burning stove which is lovely to sit by in the evenings (please bring your own logs). There are some books and games kept in the living room which you are welcome to use. The house is fully centrally heated throughout and the controls are on the first floor landing. The bathroom is a stunning focal point of the home. After a long walk in the hills you can take a soak in the claw-foot tub, or have an invigorating shower with our complimentary toiletries. There is also a double bedroom on the first floor and laundry facilities. The top floor houses a large second double bedroom and a smaller single bedroom. There are excellent views of the surrounding fells from the top floor. On prior request we can accommodate a sixth person on a pull-out bed in the single bedroom. It is a full size single mattress bed (see photos) and would probably be best suited for children. There is an additional charge of twenty pounds if you would like the sixth bed to be made up. Stair-gates and a travel cot can be assembled prior to your arrival, upon request. Being a traditional lakeland cottage, the staircases are quite narrow and steep, which may present a challenge to the elderly or those with mobility problems. Outside: The back door leads out from the living room to a small, peaceful garden with an area of grass and benches. There is a gravel driveway large enough for two cars. There is a large lockable shed in the garden. If you want to store bikes etc in there, I am happy to arrange for the key to be left for you. We are a strictly dog-free cottage.
Ambleside is a bustling and lively village where you will find plenty of things to do. Many happy hours can be spent wandering around the town and its interesting shops (with plenty of stops for coffees and cakes!). Ambleside is one of the best places to shop for outdoor gear if you are into fell walking / outdoor activities. In the evenings there are a number of restaurants within walking distance from the cottage if you don't feel like cooking. Pop into one of the many cosy pubs for a drink. The Lake District is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK - there is so much to explore! Turn right out of the cottage door on foot and there are a number of beautiful walks up the hill and onto the local fells, which are suitable for most people and children. Or take a short drive for some more challenging walks in the area - Helvellyn on a clear day offers unparalleled beauty from the top.

Ramble through some of the best walking country in Britain; get out your mountain bike and go off road or simply enjoy the pleasures of the delightful towns and villages dotted throughout the lakes and Cumbria. The railway arrived in 1857, making the area much more accessible to visitors and with this demand grew a wealth of Lake District Hotels and a multitude of natural and 'built' attractions. The railway still exists today and brings people from all over the world to this special area of the Lake District National Park. As well as being a sustainable way to travel, most of the Windermere hotels are only a short walk from the station, or at worst a five minute taxi ride. In terms of attractions, Lake Windermere is well known as England's largest Lake at over 10 miles long and is also the deepest at 65 metres. There are numerous outstanding viewing points within easy reach either by car, or by short walk. Gummer's Howe is probably the most famous being situated at the south end of Lake Windermere. You can drive most of the way, leaving only a 30 minute walk to marvel at the panoramic views over Lake Windermere and across to Morecambe Bay. To see the Lakes from a different perspective, Arnside Knott rewards those who take this gentle climb with stunning views of the Kent Estuary and Morecambe Bay; simply head for the viewpoint. For a more challenging, but still enjoyable walk for most, take the 2 hour round trip to Brantfell and Post Knott. Take the camera, as there are wonderful views of Windermere, the stunning Langdales and maybe even the Lake District Hotel you've chosen. Hope for a clear day and always check the weather forecasts before heading out. Suitable footwear is always important, even on these more leisurely walks. Around Lake Windermere you'll find an array of villages and hamlets to enjoy. A Victorian town almost as it was when first developed. Beautiful buildings and dedicated to the tourist industry. Fantastic breathtaking scenery. A busy place even in the heart of winter. Probably my favourite time of the year with its fresh crisp air. Autumnal colours are a sight to behold. Spring with its rebirth reminds me if the warmer days ahead where as a child I came on holidays to spend hours dipping my feet in streams and lakes. A place you will want to return to for sure.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Juliet's comfortable and beautifully decorated property. The kitchen was very well equipped, and the downstairs dining room provides plenty of space to eat. We especially loved the cosy living room with a very nice TV and comfy sofas. The bathroom was especially lovely and the bath was great after a long day of walking. Bedrooms were beautifully decorated and also very comfortable. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, and will definitely recommend this property to others.

    One of two delightful stonebuilt cottages dating from 1880's offering peace and tranquillity in a quiet location equidistant between the pretty villages of Bowness and Windermere with plenty of local walks and restaurants. The cottage has panoramic views over The Langdale Fells which can be enjoyed from the warmth and comfort of the cottage interior or from the beautifully landscaped garden at the front of the cottage. A perfect spot to unwind with a glass of wine and watch the sunset!
    The cottage is designed "upside down" with the bedroom and bathroom downstairs and the open plan living room and kitchen upstairs to make the most of the lovely views. Wastwater Cottage adjoins Elterwater Cottage which also accommodates two people, so why not rent both and share your holiday experience with a couple of friends? Towels and Bed linen are provided.

The cottage itself was spotless and exactly what we were looking for - a cosy and comfortable space with everything we could need from it. The location was great - a short walk to Bowness and even shorter walk to Windermere. There was a great information folder with tips for walks and restaurants, which we used and were not at all disappointed by. Overall, a perfect cottage to stay in, in a beautiful part of the world.     Apartment on the ground floor of a 300 year old, Grade 2 listed Lakeland barn. Quiet location, off street parking by the door, mountain views. New kitchen and wet room, underfloor & central heating, wood burning stove. One bedroom with kingsize bed.
    This is a quirky, c.300 year old building and is part of a group of buildings on the Ambleside Heritage Trail that are the oldest in the town. The site was the first to be settled in what is now Ambleside, over 1,000 years ago. It is constructed of Lakeland stone and is Grade 2 Listed. The walls are 2 feet thick and the interior contains ships timbers salvaged from the Cumbrian coast. The kitchen and wet room are new and contemporary, yet blend with the old world feel of the apartment. There is always plenty of hot water to relax under the shower after a day in the fells and the wood burning stove provides a cosy focal point in the evenings.
    The barn is above the town in the Conservation Area with very little passing traffic, yet only two minutes walk down ancient lanes to the centre of Ambleside. The town is the centre of everything to do with 'the great outdoors' in The Lakes and there are plenty of walks from the door, including the classic 11 mile mountain walk called The Fairfield Horseshoe. Ambleside is at the north end of England's longest lake Windermere and is surrounded on the other three sides by mountains - all easily accessible by car including over the Kirkstone Pass to Ullswater and up the Langdale valley.

Away from the main road Foxgloves offers peace and tranquility yet only a short stroll to the hub of Windermere centre. FREE parking is available on College road. A baby Cot plus "Z" bed can be provided on request
    On a quiet street not a minute from the lively town center. Supermarkets, pubs, cafes, restaurants, wine and coffee bars, banks and post office. All superb quality in this competitive area. You won't feel let down. Windermere lake is 5 mins in a car or 20 mins walking. There are plenty of walks and great cycling routes near by. FREE parking is available on College road.

    We are a 17th Century cottage, located around 1 mile from Windermere railway station, but on the main bus routes, so we are easy to find. We are STRICTLY for NON SMOKERS...if you smoke...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do NOT book with us.     Arnsbarrow Tarn lodge is in a fantastic elevated position on the Neaum Crag Estate, set on the south facing hill above Skelwith Bridge, at the entrance to Langdale, and below Loughrigg Fell. Inside, the lodge has been extended to include two good-sized double bedrooms, and a twin, with an open plan living area which extends into the dining area and well fitted kitchen. With plenty of storage, and the warmth of the wood panelled walls. This is a Friday to Friday changeover
    Set high up amongst the trees on a rocky promontory, the lodge has wooden decking on all sides, and a large seating area with barbeque facilities. Between the trees you get glimpses of the amazing views across to Park Fell, Black Fell and Great How.

  • This was a perfect location for a family holiday, and the dog was very happy here too. We know the area, and the site, very well, but the photos do not do justice to Arnsbarrow Tarn Lodge, perched high on Neaum Crag in a peaceful spot with lovely views through the trees. The sitting-room/dining room is spacious and comfortable, and has the welcoming feel of a much-loved family home. The kitchen is well-equipped and the bedrooms are all a good size with comfy beds. The shower is excellent. Outside there is extensive decking and a large terrace - it was wonderful for sit out there, even in early April, and the stars were a treat. There are fells to be climbed and rivers to stroll by from the site. Local towns and villages, as well as starting points for big climbs are within easy reach by car. We had a very good stay, and have already made a provisional booking for next time.

  • Great location and accommodation. We (4 adults) stayed for 7 days and it was possible to visit very beautiful places within less than 1-hour drive every day. An inn with good food is only a few mins drive or walk away. The property stayed warm when the outside temperature was below zero and had everything needed to prepare proper dinners. We were greeted with a kind Christmass card, mince pies and a bottle of wine; always a good sign of a caring host. The bookshelf is full of guidebooks, which is handy if you arrive unprepared. It has been a great experience for us, definitely much better than what we had expected. Highly recommended!

    Heather Cottage is a pretty lakeland cottage between Ambleside and Hawkshead. There is a lovely open living dining space with polished limestone floors and a wood burning stove. The kitchen is well fitted with a dark granite worksurface and on the first floor there are two good sized bedrooms with comfortable double beds. This is a Friday to Friday changeover.

    This cottage is a cosy stone Lake District property with an open fire, walking distance from the lively resort of Ambleside. There are 2 bedrooms - so sleeping a maximum of 4 people.(please note that with 4 adults space is a little restricted though the costs are the same so will suit those looking for a budget break) The cottage can be booked for a week or a short break with a minimum stay of 3 nights. Or longer if you can. There is discount for weekly bookings. We are now Superhosts!!
    The cottage is one of a cluster of cottages close to the vibrant centre of Ambleside. Imagine arriving by car and then abandoning it for a few days while able to climb a fell or take a lakeside stroll straight from the doorstep. Eating, shopping and drinking without driving, and coming home to relax in front of an open fire. The front door opens straight into the cosy lounge with an open fire. And then there is an open plan kitchen - compact but with all mod cons including a dishwasher. Then a steep staircase leads upto 2 comfortable bedrooms (1 with a double bed and 1 with twin beds) and a modern bathroom with a walk-in shower.
    Ambleside is central to the Lake District so most people are attracted by the proximity of the fells and lakes. But it has many other amenities not usually found in a rural location. There is an excellent cinema, tennis courts, bowling green plus a large number of bars and restaurants ranging from budget to gourmet! Boat trips across Lake Windermere can be taken from Waterhead Pier which is again a short stroll from the cottage.

  • Jenny war eine super kommunikative Gastgeberin! Ich hatte jeweils nach ein paar Minuten schon eine Antwort von ihr im Postfach! Das Haus ist meiner Meinung nach für einen Kurzaufenthalt perfekt, da klein und richtig gemütlich. Allerdings ist es auch richtig eng und für vier Personen schon eine Herausforderung in der Küche oder im Wohnzimmer. Wir waren zwei Erwachsene und zwei Kinder und für uns war es ok für drei Nächte. Besonders gefallen hat uns der Kamin im Wohnzimmer, für den wir Holz an einer nahegelegenen Tankstelle kauften und so jeden Abend ein gemütliches Feuer entfachen konnten! Das Doppelbett hat eine ausreichend feste Matratze, auf der es sich gut schlafen liess. Die Einzelbetten sind jedoch mit einer so weichen Matratze ausgestattet, dass man regelrecht darin einsinkt! Für unsere Kinder kein Problem - für uns Erwachsene wäre es das aber gewesen! Wir kommen gerne wieder!

  • Jenny’s cottage in Ambleside is the perfect spot for a family exploring the lake district! It’s ideally located close to several walking trails as well as all of the restaurants and shops that Ambleside has to offer. The cottage is really cute, with comfortable beds and a nice large walk-in shower. Jenny had thoughtfully left fire lighters as well as coffee/tea/milk, and there was a guestbook where we got recommendations on where to eat from previous guests - a really lovely touch! We really enjoyed our weekend here and will definitely stay again!

Accommodation in detail A traditional stained glass porch leads to the cosy, oak-beamed living / dining room with open fire and original range stove. Underheated slate floors, deep-cushioned sofa and a traditional window seat. The kitchen area is colourful with painted wood and cherrywood furniture. Half-way upstairs a barn door opens out to a path that leads to the small rear garden and sun deck. We have a large laundry outhouse and bike storage. Upstairs again to the spacious Hans Grohe bathroom and romantic bedroom, with vaulted ceiling, bespoke fitted wardrobes, dressing room and views over neighbouring gardens to Wansfell.
    We can recommend the pub The Golden Rule for a good pint, conveniently one minute from the property. Both the Thai restaurants are very good, also the Indian and we all love the Apple Pie bakery - we cant recommend the bath buns enough!!

    Grove Cottages lie in the beautiful Stock Valley. They are reached by a private drive from Ambleside which runs past Stockghyll Falls, climbing to 700 feet and offering some of the finest panoramic views in the Lake District. Guests are invited to relax in the gardens, or freely explore the farm. Grove Farm is the setting for your own tranquil retreat, yet with Ambleside just over a mile away there is an excellent choice of shops, bars and restaurants close by, with easy access to all the magnificent scenery and exciting pursuits that the Lake District has to offer.

  • High Grove is a really beautiful place in a perfect location. You feel as though you are miles away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist towns, but in fact you are only 1 minute’s drive from Ambleside! Drive up a winding road onto the farm and at the very top of the drive are the 3 apartments. High Grove seems to be the largest and is very quiet. We were never aware of other guests. On arriving the view is breathtaking - you can see for miles and the only sounds are of sheep and birds. The photos really don’t do it justice. The accommodation is very comfortable with large bedrooms, very comfortable beds, a great shower over nice bath, good lighting in bathroom and a lovely living area and kitchen upstairs. The living area has glorious views over hills and farmland - swallows fly around the building in the evenings and you can hear the sheep in the fields. We saw a young deer in the grass beside the drive and black sheep on the drive. The kitchen is very well equipped with lots of crockery and cookware. The television is excellent and the wifi was pretty good. I would thoroughly recommend High Grove if you want to have access to the centre of the Lake District yet be insulated from the crowds. This was so much better than we expected! Thank you

    Our apartment is on a quiet street with lovely fell views, but it is only a short walk to the shops, bars and restaurants that Windermere has to offer.

Me encanta la decoración de la fauna, muy elegante y acabado de alta especificación. nos ha dado ideas para nuestro propio lugar! ;) Este apartamento es sin duda una pequeña joya. Es fácil caminar a las tiendas y restaurantes, debe recomendar Faro, Forraje y Cafe Italia. Bowness es también a poca distancia que es muy práctico. La ubicación es ideal para explorar en cualquier lugar en los lagos! Se lo recomendaría a otros y sin duda volveremos nosotros mismos. Muchas gracias: D

El apartamento es precioso y es exactamente el tipo de lugar que quiere volver a después de un largo día de paseos por los lagos y montañas. Es limpio y bien decorado con una buena cocina en caso de que quiera comer. Si quieres salir en Windermere para comida o bebida es un tiro de piedra de los bares, restaurantes, tiendas y supermercados en la ciudad.     Character cottage in the heart of Bowness. Walking distance from all amenities , yet set back in a private location behind trees. With parking and lovely garden this is the perfect place to explore the beautiful surroundings.
    FOXGLOVE COTTAGE IN WINDERMERE LAKE DISTRICT Foxglove Cottage lies in Bowness, one of the Lake Districts most popular villages, with its many shops, inns, cafes and restaurants leading down to the beautiful lake Windermere. Foxglove cottage is the perfect place to enjoy the outstanding natural beauty and to walk to local restaurants for a spot of dinner and maybe glass of wine or two. The end property of three traditional lakeland cottages, Foxglove Cottage is a short walk from Bowness village and bay and yet remains private, hidden behind trees and shrubs. A shared drive leads up to the cottages and Foxglove is on the far end with lovely private garden to the rear. The side entrance leads into the well equipped kitchen/dining room. A single step leads up to the oak beamed sitting room. The room has comfy sofa and arm chairs, and , of course , the obligatory log burning stove. A most comfortable and cosy place to relax after a long walk in the beautiful surrounding area. A narrow staircase leads to the upstairs floor, on the landing is the first bathroom with bath and overhead shower. A few more steps lead onto the main landing off which there are two bedrooms, one the master double, with en-suite whirlpool bath and overhead shower, the second a pretty twin bedroom. At the rear of the cottage there is a lovely private garden, surrounded by shrubs and trees. there is a dining area where you can perhaps have a barbecue and enjoy a glass of rose in the spring/summer. This is a perfect place to stay for either couples or a small family, where the amazing area of the Lake district can be easily explored and just a short walking distance you can pop out to wine and dine in the evening before returning to a cosy relaxing cottage. The Location The linked towns of Bowness and Windermere lie east of Lake Windermere, where Bowness is at the waters edge, with the town of Windermere set about a half mile away above the lake. Each is a busy community of shops, cafes, restaurants and attractions, serving both the local community and our visitors to the Lake District. Perhaps the biggest attraction is the bay at Bowness, a sweeping crescent of waterfront and adjoining parkland, where you can enjoy a walk by the shore or find a quite place to picnic. At the bay you will find the piers and the famous Windermere steamers, which offer boat trips up and down the ten - mile reach of the lake. Here you can also hire rowing boats and motor powered boats, which can be taken by the hour to explore the lake and it islands for yourself. Other popular attractions are the World of Beatrix Potter, the Windermere Steam Boat Museum and a little south of Bowness the Blackwell Arts and Crafts house, one of the most important surviving houses from the turn of the 20th century. The house is a superb example of the Arts and Crafts movement architecture, where it occupies a stunning position overlooking Windermere and is open to the public as a gallery for craft and applied arts. North of Windermere is Brockhole, the Lake District Visitor Center. Set on the lakeshores the main house is surrounded by beautiful gardens where you will find a huge adventure playground, café, shop and exhibitions along with a host of information about the National Park. For visual entertainment you have the Royalty Cinema in Windermere, and the Old Laundry Theatre in Bowness, staging a lively annual season of music, theatre, comedy and film. There are plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants, where for me the best is by far Jericho’s in Windermere. Owned and run by Jo and Chris Blaydes, the welcome is always warm, the setting perfect and the cuisine delicious. For a good country pub atmosphere there is the Queens Head at Troutbeck, about 2 miles from the main village the inn offers fine beers, good food and roaring fires in winter months. For the big walks and big landscapes you will have to travel a bit further into the park, however there is a good local walk up onto Orrest Head, which begins from Windermere, just opposite the railway station. Anecdotally it was the first ever walk for Alfred Wainwright where the view from the summit was said to have changed his life and set him on a lifetime of fell walking and the production of those much loved walking guides. Also quite local are the fells to the south of Bowness. Although not mountain high, they offer a magical rolling countryside rising above the lake with magnificent views. Travel a little further afield and you much to explore. South of the villages, at the foot of Windermere, is Newby Bridge and Lakeside where the steamers terminate. Here you will also find Fell Foot Park for boat hire, fishing and the National Trust Gardens. East lies kendal, the capital Town of South Lakeland. A host of good shopping, restaurants and a busy cultrural scene with the likes of the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and The Brewery Arts Center. At the northern head of the lake lies Ambleside, a popular town with cinema, pubs, restaurants and huge selection of outdoor and climbing gear shops. Once you past the head of the lake you are within easy rach of the big fells such as the Langdales, the forest of Grizedale and the other great lake in the south, Coniston Water.

    It is an easy walk from the train and bus station to our ground floor flat.You will have sole occupancy. It's tucked away in a secluded sunny spot, yet moments away from the vibrant cafe culture that is Windermere. Warm and clean we aim to make you feel welcome.
    In a small purpose built block the flat has been refurbished recently and decorated to a high standard. It has one bedroom, guests have the entire flat for their use. There is a shared lawn area, enclosed by hedge and walls. There is an allocated space in the car-park. In the distance, the Coniston fells are an inspiring view, but its just as convenient to walk from the door. Lots of choices, including the lake shore , Orrest Head view point, much loved by Alfred Wainwright, the beech trees of Sheriffs Wood or the unspoilt School Knott tarn.
    The mainline train station at Kendal town is called Oxenholme, Lake district. From there a local train service runs into Windermere. The popular cafe culture in Windermere contributes to a vibrant village. Booths is our local supermarket where you will find regional products. A Co-Op and Sainsburys are on the main streets. We are proud of the beautiful scenery, and if you don't want to drive, you will find lots of other means to explore. Walks from the door step take you uphill to small tarns, view points or down through woodland, past pretty streams to the lakes shore. Increasing numbers of accessible paths open up access to people of a fitness and abilities "Wild" and lake swimming is increasingly popular, you may even be joined by an otter! There are many historic houses and sites to visit locally reflecting the poets, craftspeople and artists who have lived here. Even if it rains, you will still find lots to do. The local cinema has a Wurlitzer organ and regular recitals. Visiting orchestras host concerts over summer. There are lots of activities throughout the year. We try to keep an up to date guide available. A new and very successful initiative last year was the winter German market. Our Christmas lights are strung between the streets, Father Christmas arrives by train in December, and local groups arrange regular events through the year. Windermere is well served by Churches. There is a Quaker meeting , and farther afield a Buddhist center, at both of which, people of all, or no faith are welcome.

  • Fiona and Dave's flat in Windermere is the perfect place to come for your visit to the Lakes!! Dave met us for check in and ran through everything in the flat, they even left a birthday card for me! The flat was spotless, warm and a lot of care and attention has been paid to it to make it a lovely place to stay! The location is fantastic, a 30 second walk and you are in the centre of Windermere but you can hear no noise from the traffic passing through the village. It is an absolutely fantastic place to stay for a couple and we will definitely be using this flat again for our trip next year!!

  • Fiona was a fantastic host. We loved the flat and not only did it have all the basics but there was so many added extras too! Everything we'd accidentally forgotten Fiona had spares! It was in a lovely location right in the centre of Windermere so it was fantastic for travelling to other lakes! Also there was a fantastic chippy around the corner. The fishcakes were incredible! We'd absolutely recommend this place to anyone going to the lake district!

  • Fiona and Dave gave my partner and I the most warmest of welcomes. Fiona was extremely responsive prior to booking and answered all my questions regarding the area. The cottage was perfect for us as a couple, very cosy and with all the utensils you could need. If you like the idea of home cooked meals you have everything needed and a Sainsbury’s less than a 5 min walk away. They were super hosts and we will be back in the summer.

This room shares a bath/shower/toilet room with TWO other letting rooms within this house. There are no kitchen or cooking facilities, it is simply room only. If its cheap and comfortable accommodation you're looking for then this is the perfect place! The cottage is in the centre of Windermere 2 minutes walk from the train/bus station, cafes, bars and shops.
    Within the room is a dressing table and mirror, plug sockets available all over. Shelves, and rail with hangers, tea/coffee making facilities and a comfy chair to relax in after a long day out in the lakes. WiFi is included for free

    The beauty of the Lake District is here for all to enjoy. You may prefer to walk on the fells, drive around them or just sit and look at them. Along with the lakes, we think it is the most beautiful place to be. This is also the home of some of our best authors and poets, you can go and visit their homes - i.e. Beatrix Potter and Wordsworth to name a few. Pony trekking, canoeing, abseiling there are so many activities here to be enjoyed.

    Over the Way is ideal for either a relaxing or romantic stay and a place from which to explore the beautiful surroundings with many walks right from the doorstep. The accommodation is within walking distance of two pubs. Troutbeck is one of the most photographed villages in The Lakes for its wonderful landscapes and character properties. Over the Way will make a great base for touring the whole of the National Park and a great stopover on the way up to Scotland perhaps.
    There is a village shop about half a mile away with a small cafe. There are many walks of varying lengths straight out the front door.

  • To begin with the location is amazing. It's not too far off the beaten track, and the directions Diana gave helped us, drivers inexperienced with narrow lake district roads, find the apartment easily with no trouble. There is a gorgeous pub called the "Mortal Man" not 50 ft away, we ate there twice during our stay. It was so convenient, and the food was great, would definitely recommend. The apartment was very comfortable, perfect for a couple having a holiday. Very stylish, but also extremely functional. Cooked two home meals no problem. We also brought bikes which could be kept in a locked bike area which was great. We both had a lovely time, and will definitely be looking up this place to stay in again in the future.

    The Retreat is in the centre of Ambleside, close to all the amenities and the public transport, but is set back from the road so much quieter than you would expect. It is just behind Ambleside House and by The Copper Pot café which will give you a ten percent discount as a guest. So you can sample the breakfast lunch afternoon meals cream teas, and special teas, coffees, wines and beers.

  • It's simply perfect. Very affordable way of spending few days in beautiful Lake District. The cottage is perfect for 2-3 people, with walking distance to literally everything that you may need on your holidays. The host is extremely welcoming and small touches (scones and jam were ready for our arrival, milk and eggs in the fridge, amount of amientities) just added to the whole experience. Definitely worth rebooking!

  • We really enjoyed our 4 night stay at The Retreat. Milk, bread and jam etc. were waiting for us on arrival - a nice touch. The comfortable flat is very central in Ambleside and with a parking space directly outside perfectly met our needs. Also available were maps and write-ups for several walks directly from the flat. A real bonus as high winds higher up kept us near Ambleside for one day. We would stay again tomorrow.
