  • Had a great stay in this beautiful lodge. When we arrived there was a bottle of wine and chocolates waiting for us. It was my wife's birthday while we were there and there was a Happy Birthday banner hanging up, which was a really nice addition, thank you! The lodge was clean and cosy, the views from the porch are great. We didn't stay in the caravan, but it looked really nice and cosy in there too. Would love to come and stay again if we're in that area. Thank you for making our stay really special.

  • The cabin is the perfect place for a quiet and relaxed time with a great scenery. A much needed break from the city's routine. The equipment of the cabin is simple but it's got all the necessary to cook simple meals and the bathroom was even better than we expected. We loved not having wi-fi!

  • Fantastic stay. Lovely surroundings, beautiful home, exactly what we needed for a one night family getaway...could have stayed a lot longer. Hosts came to meet us to show us the way to the location. Couldn't want for any more...will def be back. Highly recommended!

  • Charlotte and James were in touch beforehand and had the cabin and bow top warm and welcoming for our party of four on a very wet and stormy November night. Wine and choc biscuits were a generous touch and there were some basics (eggs, pasta) if we'd come unprepared. The cabin is pine and feels very natural and cosy. We had a lovely time there.

    Jan2016-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely lovely, plenty of space for all of us in this cosy cabin. Girls (4 and 7) loved the loft beds and using the bow top as a playhouse in the day. Beautiful views, well equipped kitchen with lots of thoughtful extras like wine, cakes, milk, butter, olive oil etc. Lots to do in the surrounding area. Thank you Charlotte!

  • What a perfect weekend! Honestly it couldn't have gone better. The location was easy to find, beautiful views and all the essentials were there when we arrived. The house (cabin) is so livable we could have stayed there all week. The old fasioned caravan even had electricity which suprised us all, and easily fitted 2 adults. There were lots of leaflets on things to do in the area and we found a great walk in dalby forest. You made our girly weekend fantastic and we couldn't have asked for more! Thank you! Izzy, nina, gayle, gemma and emma x

  • We had the most fantastic time at Deepdale farm cabin. Charlotte and James made us feel really welcome and go above and beyond with making you feel welcome. It's the cutest, cosiest and very clean and well kept cabin we've ever stayed in and can't wait to be back again soon! Highly recommend!

  • Marvelous place to stay near Northern York Moors National Park. Lovely setting, very quaint cabin with bed in a sheep trailer. Quite comfortable for the four adults we had there. Loft entrance is a wee bitty bit tight but otherwise a marvelous place to stay.

  • Virginia is an exceptional host. She welcomed us with a cup of tea and took time to discuss with us. Lovely fire place in the living room, and the room is very spacious. If we come back to Yorkshire it would be a pleasure to stay again at Virginia's.

  • Honoured to be Virginia’s first Air bnb guest! Very warm and friendly welcome with a cup of tea! Huge double room - super comfy bed and luxuriously warm duvet - extra blankets and towels provided. Virginia had a very useful folder of local attraction leaflets too. Thanks for letting Ringo stay too! Looking forward to returning =)

  • Our hosts were delightful people and made great efforts to provide everything we needed. The breakfasts were sublime. The situation couldn't be bettered - under a minutes walk to the exquisite village of Helmsley. I did think we had a bedroom each and we found that to convert the sitting room to a bedroom late at night was beyond us so my cousin slept on the couch. I do think the place is best suited to a couple and the master bedroom is indeed a gorgeous restful room with a very comfortable bed.

  • The house was perfectly located for us, right in the centre of the village and from start to finish, Sarah couldn't have been more welcoming or accommodating. The room was clean, comfortable, private and the little fridge and breakfast selection was a great bonus. We'd absolutely stay again and would certainly recommend to others.

A contemporary and peaceful architect designed woodland eco home close to the North York Moors and the Yorkshire coast. A twin and a double room with ensuite and breakfast - perfect for families. Entire house can also be rented (6 bedrooms) POA.
This house is an amazing award winning home designed by a well known local architect sited in a disused quarry on the edges of the North York Moors National Park. It's modern architecture at its best with lots of glass, light and wood floors. The kitchen is openplan and has huge sliding doors that open onto the garden - on a sunny day you feel like you are sitting outside. The hot water and heating comes from our biomass boiler. There is a studio above the garage which can be used for therapeutic massage, yoga and pilates. It's incredibly peaceful here, no traffic, no light pollution, no neighbours, only the stars and the sound of owls at night. The house sits in a lovely secluded woodland garden covering 3 acres surrounded by woodland and fields. There are 2 large double bedrooms with a generously sized shared jack and jill ensuite bathroom. One room has a kingsize double bed and the other has twin beds which can be zipped together to form a super king size double bed or be used as two singles. These rooms have their own lobby which is accessed via the main house, and make up a guest suite. They are perfect for couples, families and/or friends who don't mind sharing a bathroom. If you are interested in renting the entire house, there are also 4 further bedrooms which are currently used by us with a master bedroom/ensuite and 3 children's bedrooms which could also be used by adults. These 3 generous sized rooms share a family bathroom. We have alternative accommodation close by if you would like to rent out the entire house without us being there - this would be done with a separate negociation and would need to be rented out for at least a week. We have all the equipment necessary for children including trampoline and rope swings in the garden. Cots and children's beds. Highchair and children's chairs. BBQ. Stove. Sky. Wi-Fi. Aga. Piano. Guests may also use the studio which has a rowing machine, swiss ball, weights and mats etc. Close by are the historic market towns of Kirkbymoorside, Helmsley and Pickering, famous for its steam train that takes you across the magnificent moors to the coast at Whitby. There are lovely beaches 40mins away at Runswick Bay, Sandsend and Robin Hoods Bay. The North York Moors National Park is an area of oustanding natural beauty and it's right on our doorstep, full of amazing walks and hiking. Dalby Forest with its fantastic walks and mountain bike trails are also closeby. If you like outdoor activities, this area is perfect for you. For culture vultures, the Ryedale Festival in July is a fantastic opportunity to hear world class music of all genres from all over the world. Rievaulx Abbey, Byland Abbey and Fountains Abbey are all within easy reach. Castle Howard, the walled garden at Scampston, Duncombe Park, Nunnington Hall and Hovingham Hall are all nearby. For foodies, there are some amazing places to eat including the Star and the Pheasant both in Harome, the Black Swan in Olstead, the Black Swan in Helmsley, the Hare at Scawton to name a few. If you enjoy spas, the Feversham Arms in Helmsley has the award winning Verbena Spa is for you. This is a very rural area so although there are some local buses, you would really need a car to explore. The nearest train stations are Malton (8m), Thirsk (20m) and York (25m). We are an easygoing family of 5 which includes 3 little boys. I understand however that not everyone wants children around on their relaxing break so it is really no trouble at all for them to stay at Granny's house nearby during your stay if you prefer. Please get in touch - we would love to welcome you into our home.
Beautiful spot close to the North Yorkshire Moors and the historic market town of Kirkbymoorside. Great pubs and good walking locally. Not far from the Yorkshire coast - Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay. The moors steam train not far away either.
  • jess and her family is very warm and helpful! I love this house very much! It is my dream house which living by the ocean,on the hill or living in the forest! When you come here it feels good, relax. It really like living in a fairytales and feels like a homecoming. Thanks again for everything!

  • This was a great way for us to experience a different type of house in a lovely setting. Very comfortable guest facilities and hosts who aim to please. Thanks Jessica & Gordon!

    Liz2017-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • If we say that the house is superb and the setting is idyllic, but our lasting impression is of the warmth and friendliness of our hosts, you will know that we stayed with some exceptionally nice people. Jessica and her vibrant family are firmly rooted in the local community, and lead very busy lives, but they went out of their way to make time for us and we came away feeling that we had stayed with good friends: the kind of friends who allow you the space and time you were hoping for when choosing this location. The accommodation is spacious, relaxing and very comfortable. We were very lucky with the weather, but if we had returned from a long walk that turned out to be rather damp and chilly, the bath and shower would have been just what we needed to bring us back to life. Of course, the fine weather did not stop us from enjoying them anyway. The house is set in three acres of semi-natural woodland, which provides a wonderful backdrop to breakfast. Next door, an ancient woodland path leads down the hill and across fields to the little town of Kirkbymoorside. Several manageable short walks with stunning views are an easy drive away. A few minutes by road at Pickering (but allow plenty of time to park, buy a ticket, look at the engine and get a good seat) a steam train will take you on a ninety-minute trip through the most beautiful countryside to the coast. Local food and hospitality is very good. Our reasonably priced dinner from the market menu at The Star at Harome was quite outstanding, and the busy and friendly Royal Oak Inn at Gillamoor stood up to repeated visits for an evening meal. There are several notable historic sites within an easy reach, but we will have to save those for another visit!

  • Jessica and Gordon were fantastic hosts, we were made to feel very welcome.Their home is beautiful, in a tranquil location and we had plenty of space. The room was private, extremely comfortable and I absolutely loved the huge bathroom (perfect for a long leisurely bubble bath!).

  • We were made to feel very welcome. Jessica has a charming family and, despite having three young children to look after, she still found time to chat to us and take an interest in us and our family. Our private space was really lovely and very peaceful. The location was great for us too - not far from some stunning scenery and plenty of fine restaurants. Would definitely recommend.

    Jocelyn2014-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Jessica's home you get a stunning designer experience in a gorgeous, private setting on the edge of the moors. The guest accommodation is very comfortable, with a particularly lovely bathroom. Jessica and her family are friendly and considerate - we had a very pleasant stay here, and would definitely recommend.

    Jane2013-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovey stay at the Eco house because Jessica and family made us feel very welcome on arrival and throughout the stay. The house and area are both lovely and the photos and description enabled us to know exactly what to expect. The rooms are very well appointed and the bonus of an unexpected tasty breakfast was great. I would be happy to visit agin and would recommend it to anyone.

A very quiet village with a great little pub around the corner. We have a fantastic elevated garden where you can sit and listen to the birds, we have a flock of house sparrows live close by and are often in the garden.
  • The Cottage Gillamoor is a beautiful place to spend some time in the North Yorkshire Moors. Well placed in a gorgeous little village I couldn't have asked for more. Claire's communication was excellent with plenty of messages back and forward before our arrival with details of local attractions and what to expect. We missed each other on our first night as we were out sampling the local pub's food but the effort of coming to visit us and make sure we had settled in was appreciated. The cottage was well equipped, very clean and provided a wonderful place to visit. I hope to return in the winter time to make use of that log burner!! The bottle of wine, coffee and biscuits were a lovely gift for my arrival and much appreciated.

  • Cosy cottage in a quiet neighbourhood, just perfect for a Yorkshire retreat. All our questions answered with no fuss and the rooms exactly as described. Wished we had more time in the day, hard to fit all the reading, relaxing and exploring in. Still Castle Howard a must, meandering to the coast was beautiful and steam trains, well enough said. • Really nice self contained annexe, spotlessly clean, lovely spacious shower, and Michelle left us all the makings for a good healthy breakfast. We would be very happy to stay here again when we are next in the area.

  • Michelle was a fabulous host. Greeted us and showed us around. Everything was spotless and lovely. Great location and very peaceful, Michelle's directions really helped and we found the place easily with this information. Great stay and thank you!

  • Michelle was very welcoming. It was great to be told all the things offering. Also local pamphlets left in the cottage were a great help. The cottage is set in a very beautiful garden such a calm and restful experience. We so enjoyed our stay.

  • Michelle was a brilliant host - incredibly quick to respond and could not have been more helpful when we go there. The accommodation was more like a mini cottage than a self contained room. Great little kitchen and shower room. Very spacious and spotlessly clean. Lovely location - we had a great walk to Ampleforth for an excellent bar meal in the evening. Would strongly recommend.

  • We spent a relaxing 4 nights in a great part of Yorkshire with just the right balance of isolation and activities available. The rooms were ideal for us and the provision of breakfast products and facilities (kettle, toaster and microwave) worked out fine for our needs. All in all, excellent value for money and hopefully we'll return before too long !

  • Michelle was really friendly and welcoming and the room has everything you need! The place is in a beautiful and peaceful location. Perfect for a little countryside escape.

  • This is a great place perfectly suited for exploring the local North Yorkshire area. Situated in the lovely village of Oswaldkirk. The property on which this house sits is quite beautiful as well. The house was perfect for 2 or more guests. The house itself was aesthetically pleasing and all amenities worked perfectly. I lament not visiting the local pub Malt Shovel Inn which was walking distance but there wasn't a free evening to do so. I recommend this place highly and will stay again .

  • We were given a very warm welcome and felt comfortable and at home in the accommodation. The place is immaculate, well laid out with everything you need. We were recommended a local pub, the Royal Oak in Nunnington, which was so good we went twice for dinner! Had great walk in Dalby Forest too. Very relaxing break.

  • A lovely house in a beautiful setting. Well equipped kitchen. Comfortable and clean. We would recommend to others.

    Natalie2017-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Kate's place is wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is ideally suited to families: there is plenty of space for a family of 4 but could also accommodate a couple of extra guests. Everything has been well thought through and provided (there is no microwave but this didn't cause us any issues) and Kate and her family were a lovely balance of welcoming and unobtrusive. There is much to do in the locale - beaches within an hour, the rugged Moors and forests to hike and play in, and picturesque villages with great food. And for us Londoners, having chicken and geese roaming around and being able to see fields and the horizon from the windows was super special. All in all a lovely and peaceful weekend.

    Joanna2017-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely trip and stay with Kate and Richard in Salton Lodge. The house is set in a rural location, beautiful countryside complete with plenty of wildlife, and a lovely couple of hosts. We were welcomed very kindly into the home and had everything we needed for our home away from home. I would strongly recommend staying at Salton lodge if you are looking for a quiet break, close to some fantastic woodland and national parks, alongside historic market towns, and top quality dining in the area. Highly recommended stay.

    Rob2017-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely lovely! Kate's home was spacious and light with everything you could possibly need (including fresh eggs from their hens!) Kate was an absolutely wonderful host along with her partner Richard - So helpful when needed but not in anyway overbearing. The location is fab for exploring the Yorkshire Moors and surrounding villages and we had a wonderful stay.

  • Fantastic stay and brilliant host.

    Alan2017-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely self contained apartment in rural open countryside attached to Kate's family home. We stayed for 11 nights and had a wonderful time. The apartment is spacious, clean and fully equipment for a stay of any length. We are staying as a couple, but the apartment is suitable, equiped and spacious enough for a family. Kate met us on arrival and was the perfect host. We did not need for anything during our stay so did not have specific cause to contact Kate, but we did occasionally meeting her and her husband around the property and it was clear that she was available and contactable if we needed. The location is down a quiet lane surrounded by arable fields and Kate's family chickens, dog and cat roam the property freely along with a range of wildlife, including hares, rabbits and bird life. We had lovely weather during our stay so spent almost all of our time with our walking boots on exploring the towns, villages, moors and dales by foot. We found the (URL HIDDEN) website to be good. It has a series of walks with accurate and well laid-out guides ranging from easy access (suitable for wheelchairs & pushchairs) to longer more challenging walks. We used many of these excellent walk guides and loved every minute of our time. North Yorkshire is beautiful and accessible for all - we highly recommend it.

Come and stay in our small but perfectly-formed guest space! It's completely separate from the main cottage, so you have privacy and can come and go as you please. It's warm and cosy and luxurious, and the en-suite offers a wonderful shower! And breakfast is included - see options below. Also included is free entry for two to York Minster worth £20.
Cross the rose-covered patio and take the stone steps down into this charming guest space created within an old stone barn, and discover original features including exposed timber beams.
Stonegrave is situated in the heart of Ryedale, North Yorkshire, and is an excellent base for exploring the North York Moors, the nearby market towns of Helmsley and Malton, and the Hambleton Hills to the south. Castle Howard and Rievaulx Abbey are just a short drive away. Closer to home there are wonderful walks through countryside from the door, especially if you want to include pubs or tea rooms. To the north It's a lovely mile over the hill to the Royal Oak at Nunnington. To the south Hovingham is about two miles, where the Malt Shovel, village shop and both tea rooms will serve you well. And the excellent Fairfax Arms is just three miles down the lane at Gilling East.
  • My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the quietness and cosiness. The furnishings and fitments were of excellent quality, as were the beds. Very safe, being through a locked side gate, and with great views from the south-facing patio. Lots of lovely hot water from the big shower head. Great walks, including to three pubs, and a superb minster in the lovely little village. We certainly will go again, and are already trying to plan our next visit.

  • Absolutely beautiful town and home. James had everything laid out for us [gate code, cont. breakfast, etc.] He had recommendations to local pubs and for walks in the gorgeous countryside. Would recommend him to anyone and remind you to mind the relatively low overhead in the entrance door to the cottage! Fred Yockers

    Fred2017-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • The private cottage wth private entrance has everything required for a great stay. We stayed for four nights in early July and had a lovely stay. James is really sweet and helpful while respecting our privacy. The beds are comfy, the shower is good and items for breakfast are all there. The fridge is topped up daily with fresh milk, butter, jam and yoghurt and the best thing is the fridge is tall enough to hold a bottle or two of fizz. The area is great and although you need to drive everywhere there are good places to eat in the surrounding villages such as the Fairfax Arms in Gilling East and the Stapleton Arms in Wass. Amongst visiting the countless working and ruined monasteries in the area such as Ampleforth and Rievaulx Abbey, we also visited the National Centre for Birds of Prey in Helmsley which was a brilliant trip as the birds are brought out for flying demonstrations each day. Would stay here again. Lovely part of the world.

  • Lovely cosy little place with use of the patio if it's nice. We also used the bbq after buying some local produce at a good festival. Breakfast is included and you can enjoy it at your leisure.Lovely quiet place.

  • Charming room with a charming host. The room is small but very comfortable. The location is superb for visiting Gilling, Ampleforth or as a base for visiting the Yorkshire moors.

    philip2017-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • Our host, James, was very friendly and helpful, throughout the booking process and during our one night stay. The accommodation space is tight for two people but James has done everything possible to make the room comfortable, from the quality of decoration and the housekeeping, to the 'small' things such as adding fresh flowers to the room. Given the limited space, and therefore furniture, James does a good job of providing a reasonable continental style breakfast. The shower room is very well appointed and the overhead shower is as good as it gets.

  • Really wonderful stay at the railway carriage in Helmsley. The carriage has everything that you would need for a short stay, with lots of character and quirkiness. Very nicely decorated with really comfortable beds. Perfect size for 2 but 3 or 4 is still manageable. The location is great too, right in the centre of Helmsley, but very quiet. Lovely garden with seating. Louise and Richard provide a really delicious breakfast too!

    Kathryn2015-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Louise and Craig were the perfect hosts, providing a wonderfully warm welcome throughout our stay. Myself and 3 friends Wanted to celebrate one of the group's birthday by staying somewhere unique, we couldn't have picked a better place, a beautifully restored Victorian railway carriage in the back garden to a country cottage! The carriage is fitted with all the latest mod cons, even has a TV that pops up out of a curboard?! Louise greeted us with a delicious home baked cake and canapés upon arrival, which was a lovely gesture. There was fresh milk, tea and coffee provided as well as amenties such as super soft bedding and power shower that you would find in a boutique hotel! Small touches such as a small Xmas tree made our experience feel wonderfully festive too :-) Louise's breakfast service was on another level, everything was excellent quality produce such as artisan breads and butchers meats, all cooked to perfection from scratch. I wasn't even out of Yorkshire, when I decided to book again for March 2015!

Louise had baked us a gorgeous cake ready for our arrival and we had the best B&B breakfast I've ever had! Helmsley is a lovely little town with shops, pubs and cafes to potter about in. The carriage is beautifully converted and very cosy. It's a luxurious and special place to stay. Thank you!

  • Staying at the Railway Carriage was a wonderful experience, such a unique place and I'm still in awe at the amazing use of space to make sure there's everything you could ever need but done in such a clever way - from the pop up tv to the pull down bed. Louise and Richard were wonderful hosts and the breakfast was wonderful, including the special vodka shot which came with our salmon and eggs! I'd love to return to the carriage and will certainly be recommending it to all my friends.

  • A very clean and beautiful cottage. We were a group of 5 adults visiting the area after a coast to coast cycle ride. Unfortunately we didn't arrive at the cottage until late evening and could not make full use of the facilities. A well presented cottage in a wonderful part of the world. Hope to return soon.

  • Great location, 2 minutes from helmsley market square. All communication and details sent from Amanda was prompt and accurate. We were a party of 5 middle aged women and we loved the cottage, spotlessly clean, kitchen well equipped, warm and welcoming. Couldn't fault anything - we all loved it !

  • Me and 5 friends stayed at Amanda's cottage for 2 nights. We had a fantastic time - the cottage is beautiful, in a perfect location for walking into Helmsley. Amanda has been a brilliant host, making sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We couldn't have been more pleased and we would all love to stay again one day. Thank you :)

  • A well equipped house in the heart of Helmsley in North Yorkshire. Everything you could possibly need, a home from home!! Parking onsite. Quiet neighbourhood. Beautiful, peaceful gardens to sit in as well. Absolutely ideal for our 9 day stay. Helmsley has many independent shops and a few nice pubs and restaurants and the cottage was perfect for what we needed. You will need a car, as a Helmsley itself whilst really nice, is not close to any major attractions.

  • We loved our stay here and the cottage is not only in a perfect location to walk into Helmsley but its only a 5/10 minute drive to the Start in Harome where we were at a wedding. We stayed on the coldest night of the year and it was such a cosy cottage, warm and comfortable. There is lots of room for 6 people, kitchen utilities were fantastic and i can imagine summer being fab here in the gorgeous garden with a BBQ. I will hopefully stay here again. Thanks Amanda.

  • We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage was ideal. It was spacious and had all we needed. We had three teenagers with us - so internet, two tvs, and barbecue were appreciated! It is close to the attractions of the village, but much of our week was spent on trips to castles (Pickering, Scarborough), abbeys (Rievaulx, Whitby, Ampleforth), coasts and moorland. We also went to Go-Ape at Darby, and spent a day in York. The location is excellent and we hope to come back. We will certainly recommend it to others.

Even better than it looked! I'd thoroughly recommend it, felt like a real escape, and we came back so relaxed. Also recommend Sutton Park nearby - we hired bikes and saw the beautiful Yorkshire Moors …
