  • We stayed 2 nights and it was very nice! The place is beautiful and very quiet. The food was excellent and Santiago was very friendly and gave us lots of advice and things to do. You can access the Xunantunitch site through an easy path along the river. The only thing missing is a wifi that is ... We didn't meet Suzy but she was very reactive to any email I sent her before we arrived!

  • Our stay at Nabitunich could not have been better.. Santiago Juan is a national treasure and an amazing ambassador for Belize. The cottage was comfortable and the setting beautiful. We arrived via a terrible taxi/bus combo due to cancelations in cancun and we arrived frazzled and haggard. Santiago made us some breakfast and gave us delicious coffee and fruit which made the ride fade away.. We had a nightly history lesson and wonderful food, it felt like we were family. A few things to keep in mind when staying here.. You are within walking distance to San Jose but about 10 miles from San Ignacio. There is not hot water in the cabins but plans are in progress to add it. If you get a chance to stay here you should do it..

  • Oh where to begin.....Hanna Stables was the highlight of my trip to Belize. Santiago, Terry and the entire crew were so generous, kind, and interesting. The atmosphere on the farm was relaxing, with many types of adventuring, sightseeing, and local culture at your fingertips. I will definitely stay here again, but next time for much longer.

  • First two nights in Belize was at santiago's stables. Booking have been made with Suzy and Santiago is the person who manages the property. Santiago is very nice and respectful. He gave us a lift back to San inaction on our last which was very convenient. Thank you !

  • Our stay here was fantastic! What a beautiful location. Just outside San Ignacio in Belize is this wonderful 400 acre farm that Santiago has. Santiago, the host at the location, is great to have conversation with and is very kind hearted. My friend and I stayed 2 nights and had exactly what we needed. We had dinner on 2 nights and breakfast on 2 mornings here and each were delicious. Each dinner Santiago sat and chatted with us and like I said, what a great conversationalist! One extra thing, it was my birthday while I was there and although I wouldn't have alerted our host to that, my friend spilled the beans and Santiago went above and beyond and baked me a cake! Just an unexpected treat that made the whole experience that much better. He was also incredibly helpful with assisting us in booking tours. Our rooms were comfy and showers hot when we needed it or cold when we needed to cool down after a hot humid day. When we originally booked, I reached out to Suzi for suggestions on tours and was very quickly provided information regarding the best places to book with. Additionally, directions for the farm seem odd, but they are spot on! We had no trouble. Great experience!

  • Absolutely loved our stay. Everything I could have hoped for and more. Santiago and Terri and everyone there were fantastic. Wish I could have stayed longer, if only for our fascinating even chats.

  • Santiago and all the staff and residents are absolutely the most kind and hospitable folks. My wife and I spent five days at Nabitunich/Hanna Stables on our honeymoon in Belize. The Mopan River is perfect for swimming right on the property. The village of Succotz is perfectly quaint and the locals, friendly. We booked a ride on horseback out to the ruins of Xunantunich, which you can see on a hillside horizon looking southwest from the property. Absolutely have Santiago and Deb cook for you! Their food is amazing, plentiful, and only $10bz for dinner (breakfast is included!) By far some of the best food we had in Belize. And if you're booking a tour, go with Destiny. Sergio and his son, Sirge, are very helpful, have the best prices, and partner with great tour guides. Hit up the ruins of Tikal in Guatemala while you're there. Not only is it epic, but it's also the moon of Yavin 4 in Star Wars! Request Wilbert as a guide. He's fantastic.

    Christopher2015-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible logding. I would just suggest getting exact directions. We weren't clear and it took us awhile to find the place. That being said, stay here!

My house is located in the border town Benque Veijo where is 3 min. from Xunatunich, 15min. from San Ignacio, 5min. from the border. We offer a bed room, cozy space with sofas, open kitchen, and a porch under trees.
My house is located at the center of the town. 30 seconds walk to a bank and ATM, 1 min. to some supermarkets.

Altamente recomendado.

  • Aistella was an incredible host and the acommadations were great especially considering the low price. Stella and her family were very nice, her cooking was incredible, and she was very helpful in organizing a tour to ATM cave with Carlos the Caveman who was equally as impressive. Although Benque is a small town, the location is right next to xunantunich ruins, the Mopan river which was great to swim in, and has close proximity to he border making our trip across the border to Tikal very quick and simple. We had an awesome experience with Stella and would strongly recommend

  • I would highly recommend staying with Aistela. Her house is beautiful& very welcoming. It is also walking distance to Xunantunich and the butterfly farm which is a plus if you didn't rent a car. Aistela is very sweet and I would recommend any of my friends to stay with her.

  • Aistela Joe and Ramon made us feel right at home

    Newton2015-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • The house of aistela is very good and the room is confortable. Aistela and her children are very nice person. Only one things, the rooster crows all the night :-)

    Victor2016-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • As first time Belize visitors with only a week vacation we couldn't have been more lucky to pick Aistelas place as our first stop. The house and room were clean and comfortable, and the exotic bird sounds at day break added to the vacation excitement. Out of all of the places we ended up that week, we never ate better than at Aistela's table. We had fun conversations, and loved getting to know this family. But most of all we enjoyed Aistelas son Jose who was tremendously helpful in arranging taxis and tours, and took the language barrier down for us. Having a local friend helping you getting around just can't be beat. We loved it here!

    Marieke2016-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • Aistela was an amazing host. We had a great room with a very comfortable bed. Fresh towels and great meals. We even stopped by the next day on our way to Belize for some more food. Her son Jose was very helpful in helping us locate an ATM and find a cheap taxi. Very pleased with this stay.

The oldest members of the family work in the family-owned stores on the property. Since they've lived in the area when benque was just a small village, and still live and work in the town, they're a great source of stories and history of the home, the town and of the surrounding areas for the past 40-50 years.
  • This is a lovely home. Rico and his family are very friendly. It's a good place to stay if you are searching for something comfortable, welcoming and full of charm. I recommend it.

  • This place is located in an edenic spot, remote and teeming with wonderful sights and sounds. The individual room was fairly small but adequately appointed with a very comfortable bed and a small sink. A shared bathroom and shower were literally a few steps away. Everything was clean and well kept. The lodge is carved out of the jungle then relanscaped to give the feeling of being surrounded by natural foliage. The building has several levels with outdoor shaded verandas all with beautiful and comfortable hand made furniture. Great for reading, chatting or just relaxing. The hand crafted lodge is made with local woods and is beautifully constructed. We had as much activity as we wanted: we had a fantastic full day waterfall excursion run by a local man with a pontoon boat who took us to very exotic and private spots. This trip will remain with us: a truly memorable emersion experience in which we climbed into, onto, over, and through a series of beautiful falls of different sizes and types. Roberto, the guide, was solicitous and informative and assured a safe but very enjoyable outing. Waterfall jumping was a thrilling addition. Roberto also led us on a private tour of a remote Mayan Cave with beautiful artifacts and provided us with informative archeological commentary. He also offered a great horseback ride through dense jungle paths up a steep mountainside to a gorgeous view of a river valley. At "Better in Belize" the manager in charge of the property was a warm, accessible and helpful man. We learned much about the local area, culture and medicinal plants from Jorge. A multi talented and philosophical man, Jorge was invaluable to my wife and me. We felt very connected to Belizan cultural history and current goings on through him and his lovely wife, Daisy. He gave us a wonderful tour of the community garden and several of the homes under construction on the property. It was a fantastic experience. Just a note about the road. A four wheel drive vehicle is indeed a necessity. It's an arduous ride. But well worth it!

  • We stayed on night at Marco's inn. We did not meet him but his wife stopped by to make sure we were comfortable. Our room was basic and very clean and had everything we needed. We stayed at this place because it was close to border - you can literally walk to it so that was very helpful. We did not visit the town so I can not say anything positive or negative. We weren't sure where we could eat dinner but we ended up taking taxi to a really wonderful restaurant called Le Cabana. They had great food.

Stay in our comfortable forest environment! We have 20 acres of nature trails and our campsite is quiet and peaceful. We are flexible and will try to accomodate your needs. We can help you identify local sites of interest and activities.
Our spacious 10x12 tent for 3 persons has a double and a single bed and is set on a concrete floor and set under a zinc roof to keep you safe and dry. Our open kitchen is equipped with gas stove, wood burning stove, cooler for your ice, pots, pans and dishes where you can prepare your own food. We provide an ecological shower and toilet. Trails on the property provide good birdwatching with peaceful and quiet areas for meditation and reflection. Kimo offers 2 hour or half day ecological lecture/tours of our place from a hunter gatherer perspective or several topics related to the forest and it's development. He has been doing research in this forest for the past 8 years.Lectures are priced at $25 and $50. This is our humble offer! However, we can reccomend activities in the neighboring area, e.g. horseback riding, caving or tubing.
There are around 10 families who live in this area. Most of them operate small farms but live in nearby Benque. It is interesting to see how farming is done using traditional tecniques. There are caves in the area. Horse riding trips are provided by a neighboring farmer. During the dry season river bathing is also available. You can go canoeing on your own or be acompanied by a guide or ecological instructor. And our well preserved Xunantunich Temple and it's magnificent forest is only a short ferry ride from the main highway. A butterfly farm is only a half hour away. All trips in this area are reasonably priced and conducted by experienced persons.

  • Kimo and Minerva were very welcoming! The place is very relaxing and is removed from town. Kimo showed us around the forest and told us about the area. We only stayed for one night so we didn't get to explore the area as much as we wanted. Because it isn't the easiest to get from Kimo's to town, plan on staying and exploring the area if you go. We definitely enjoyed our stay and wished we could have stayed longer.

  • The Jolly family was very welcoming and helpful during our stay. If you are looking for a fun and educational experience then this is the home stay for you! We felt completely at home with the Jolly family and enjoyed our 3 nights in this eco jungle stay completely!

  • I can't say enough good things about our stay. The place was just as described and Minerva(Kimo's Mother) was an amazing hostess. This place offered the seclusion we wanted in a beautiful jungle setting. If you're looking for a place away from the hustle and bustle of a city look no further. We can't wait for our next trip to Minerva's place.

  • Our host was very friendly and available. The directions to the site were accurate. The tent area is on a hill with its own private lawn, trees, shade, kitchen/bath area. The area was very clean and tidy. The bed and linens comfortable. We had been traveling and busy for many days and this was a great oasis for us. A great place to contemplate life. This has a very peaceful vibe. Thank you so much

  • Look no further in the San Ignacio area! A friend and I stayed here for three nights on a short notice booking and it turned out to be our best Airbnb experience ever. Hannah went above and beyond everything a great local host should be. To start, she picked us up from the San Ignacio airport and also provided us with a ride to the Xunantunich ruins. She suggested and followed up with the booking process for tours and a ride back to Belize City. Her and her family treated us like good friends and made us feel extremely welcomed. The house itself provided us with two immaculately clean/comfortable bedrooms and our own bathroom in a private wing. We also had access to a large kitchen, patio and beautiful pool area. It's perfectly located between Xunantunich (less than 10 minutes) and San Ignacio (less than 5 minutes). There are no worries about transportation, as cabs are easily accessible and only cost a few USD to both areas. Tour companies will also come pick you up right at the house. If you want the feel of a private stay, but also want to meet great Belizean people, this is the perfect place. Thanks again for your hospitality, Hannah!

  • This is - without a doubt - the BEST overall experience I've ever had with AirBnb before. Even if I had hotel points for a free hotel, I'd still choose to stay with Hannah at any of her locations. She not only provided an incredible place to stay, but also provided endless amounts of suggestions and helped my group navigate Belize for the first time with ease. I will definitely be coming back to this country and staying with Hannah!

  • Had a great time!

  • Perfect place to stay in San Ignacio. Martha and Murray were the nicest hosts. Recommended: You should have a car. The Villa is 10 Minutes outside town (5 Minutes paved road, 5 Minutes dirt road. You can take a taxi but this get get quite expensive. You should love nature (or at least not be afraid of it). With all the animals it can get a little noisy at night. If you have a car and love being outside then we can absolutely recommend this place. We loved every minute of being there. The room is spacious and everything is absolutely clean and nice. The kitchen is huge and by far better equipped than our own. And of course the pool can be very relaxing after a hot day. Next time in San Ignacio we will definely stay again there.

  • I can't honestly review the garden suite as we didn't stay in there in the end - Murray and Martha kindly upgraded us to the penthouse as a honeymoon present (Much better than getting upgraded on a plane). But what an amazing place to spend our honeymoon! We couldn't have chose a better place. Looking back now, it probably was one of the highlights of our trip. Thank you so much for letting us stay with you!

    Anthony2015-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Martha and Murray are great hosts who made us very welcome. The Garden Suite was just as we expected from the photos, and we appreciated being able to use the very well-equipped kitchen for some of our meals. The villa and grounds are lovely....don't fill all your days with sightseeing as it's nice to just chill out at the Villa and enjoy the lovely pool. San Ignacio is a short drive away, although the location is best suited to having your own vehicle. It was very neat to hear the howler monkeys off in the distance at night, and to wake up to all the bird sounds.

    Daphne2016-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • This was a beautiful landscape. It, however, is not for everyone. If you really want to get away from civilization, than this is the spot. If you want to go out at night, than I suggest a different place. Also, they were weary about their dogs. Not easy to get to at night if you're not familiar with the area.

    Shawn2016-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Martha and Murrey were excellent hosts. They provided detailed information that allowed us to book tours and manage to explore Guatemala. The place is just as pictured! Beautiful grounds and relaxing pool. We felt very safe staying here and would highly recommend to anyone. My favorite part was going for a full moon swim, while listening to the howler monkeys and watching the fire flies. Thanks for a wonderful memorable experience!

  • Murray and Martha are great hosts! They made us feel welcome right away and are very knowledgeable about activities in Belize. The Avana Villa Garden suite looks exactly like the pictures and the property is gorgeous. All around good experience.

    Ana2015-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • Martha and Murray are warm, accommodating and gracious hosts, as are their gorgeous dogs. They helped us find two great tours in the area - One, the absolute MUST in the region, ATM, and the other, an awesome day trip to the ruins by horseback. Martha and Murray were very present. The room is also beautiful, just as in the pics. There's a lovely palapa with a hammock to swing in the jungle breeze. Evenings are wonderful as you can hear the flocks of budgies going nuts in the trees above, and hear the howlers grumbling in the near yard. Magnificent! Some things to consider before you go is that it is some distance from town, which can be a bit of a pain when you want to go for dinner. It's a long dirt road back to the villa, which is a nice walk in the day but requires a taxi at night - and we had a few creepy taxi drivers. Sorting it out in advance is preferable but limits spontaneity. There's also quite a loud generator which is right next to the room which gets going at 7am. (It doesn't run all day, though). This is a sweet jungle spot and we recommend it!

The Butterfly Cottage is a charming accommodation nestled in the foothills of the Maya Mountain in western Belize, a short drive away from downtown San Ignacio. Enjoy a panoramic view of the lush jungle surrounds of the Macal River Basin.
Our Butterfly Cottage is a charming space for groups, families or couples alike, and makes a great base for exploring western Belize with its central location to all the major attractions in the area.
  • The Butterfly Cottage was a wonderful place to stay within Chaa Creek Lodge. We loved all that the Lodge had to offer and we took advantage of many of the amenities, including the early morning bird watching and canoeing on the Macal River. The pool was beautiful and refreshing but a bit of a hike from the Cottage. 137 steps! Definitely worth it! Our favorite part of our stay was the Creatures of the Night tour. How exciting! We saw so many creatures like tarantulas (!), scorpions, frogs, and toads. Who knew?! The cottage itself is very spacious but basic. No a/c, and no internet, but it had fans, and a mini fridge. The fans helped to keep us cool at night, but it got hot during the day. Overall, we had an exciting stay at Chaa Creek. We can't wait to go back.

  • Great place to get out of the noise of urban life and get close to nature. Definitely recommend to take advantage of the bird watching and medicinal tour with Ernest.

  • Our stay at Chaa Creek in the Butterfly Cottage was the last stop on our 9 day trip to Belize - and it was the perfect way to end it! We were looking forward to ending our trip in a comfortable, nice location as we had been sailing and camping for part of our trip, and we were not at all disappointed by Chaa Creek. The Butterfly Cottage is a little removed from the main part of the resort, but it's no longer than a 5 minute walk and the only reason it takes 5 minutes is because it's a little uphill :). It's quiet and somewhat secluded up on top of the hill with a good view of the mountains, if you're looking for that. We were actually surprised at the size of the cottage - it was a lot bigger than the pictures depicted! It was way too much space for just two people, as we didn't even use the other bedroom, but it was also a nice luxury to have so much space to ourselves. This would be ideal for two couples, or a family, as there is a queen bed, two singles, and two futon/pull out couches in the large living room. Honestly - the space is impressive. We loved Chaa Creek and took full advantage of all the onsite activities that were offered - the hiking, canoeing, natural history museum, the butterfly tour, and of course lounging by the pool :). Each member of the staff are amazing - everyone is so kind, they remember your name, and answer any & all questions you might have. We actually woke up on our last morning to see our flight had been cancelled back to the States, and even at 5am the staff was able to help us get on a computer and use their front desk phone to get in touch with the airlines and re-book another flight. We really, really appreciated their help and flexibility especially at such an early hour when it was still pitch black outside! They even offered us coffee and tea in the process :) Chaa Creek offers shuttles to take you anywhere, and we took advantage of this one night to get into town and go out for dinner. It's really not a long drive at all, maybe 15-20 minutes but is about $60 (american dollars) round trip so be aware of that cost if you're on a budget. The food at Chaa Creek was great, and we thought the breakfast was awesome. We really wanted to eat at the campsite but unfortunately didn't get the chance just due to our timing - but would encourage anyone to do this if you want Belizean cuisine, we heard it's very good. Overall a wonderful stay at Chaa Creek and the Butterfly Cottage - just make sure to bring a flashlight or headlamp so you can walk back to the cottage at night!

  • The place was so beautiful! We only wish we could have stayed for a much longer time!

    Kia2017-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place in a great location. Big and comfortable. Staff and check-in were great. Only let down was the shower, which is fixed now to my understanding.

  • Showed up to Chaa Creek and was surprised at how secluded and peaceful the location was. Our specific unit had maintenance issues, so they upgraded us to a different suite no questions asked. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Gorgeous grounds, even saw the howler monkeys that hang around there! Would definitely visit again

    Madeline2017-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Our family of four stayed in the Butterfly cottage and loved it. We enjoyed the pool, butterfly farm, and walking the trails. The staff at Chaa Creek were outstanding! We would highly recommend this cottage and lodge.

    Maria2017-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • We ended up not staying at the Butterfly house due to maintenance/repairs, so I cannot review the butterfly house. As for Chaa Creek in general, it is an excellent resort. The grounds are lovely, and the food and service were amazing. The pool was very warm, and my kids enjoyed swimming in it daily. One thing to note is that the location is very remote, and your only options will be to eat at the resort daily if you don't have a car, so be prepared for that. It was ok with us though because the food was amazing, but it does start to add up, especially for a family of 4. I also enjoyed the onsite activities, and the tour guides were knowledgeable, hospitable, friendly, and trustworthy. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and we would stay again. There is a unique touch that Chaa Creek has, and I would recommend it for both families and couples, and even solo travelers.

My place is good for families (with kids). We are a family owned and operated hotel in the San Ignacio area, in the Cayo District of Belize, Central America. The two rooms we have on Airbnb are rooms which are semi-finished but completely dwell-able with all the amenities for a comfortable stay. Our venue is situated on a hilltop nestled within green lush primary forest in the Maya Mountains.
Our venue is situated on a hilltop nestled within green lush primary forest in the Maya Mountains. Here you can enjoy peaceful nature walks and observe various types of birds and other animals like squirrels, iguanas, ant eaters, among others. We have that authentic eco-retreat feel without trapping you in the middle of a dense jungle far from civilization.
We are situated in a hotel zone which means you won't have to contend with any loud music or noises from annoying neighbors.

  • This place was beautiful ... the staff was very kind and friendly/the food was awesome prepared as we requested. They made our day enjoyable. Judy the host greeted us and allowed us to just be ourselves to roam as we please. This is an off the grid place .... it is beautiful/nature at its best. Deep in the Mayan mountains of Belize. I recommend this place if you like nature and the outdoors. Judy's house was big enough for our 18 member family...more than enough room for all of us and still have our privacy. Thanks Judy and staff...keep up the good work!

    Brenda2017-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Exceeded my expectations by ten fold!! First, Judy and her daughters are warm, welcoming people. You are not a guest at their lodge; you are family. Their priority was to take care of us. We stayed in La Casona. This was the original family home that Ken built. We had four adults and six kids and we had more than enough room. Everything was clean, the beds were comfortable and everything worked. The restaurant/bar was the place to be in the mornings and evenings. The Tucans in the morning will be a memory forever. An evening cocktail with the kinkajou was also amazing. The compound is about 4 miles in from the main road nestled against a gentle jungle river. Tubing from the La Casona to the main lodge takes about thirty minutes in the slow moving river. Those 30 minutes of floating and enjoying the jungle may be the best commute I have ever had. We will be back.

  • Really enjoyed our stay at La Casona at duPlooy's Jungle Lodge! The botanical gardens were beautiful and we really enjoying tubing down the Macal River.

    Michael2017-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • DuPlooys was the perfect start to our Belize spring break - although my family wishes we stayed in the jungle longer. LaCasona easily slept our 5 family, 18 person group. Provided the perfect space for sleeping and community gathering. We didn't end up using the kitchen much because the food at the lodge, a short walk from the house, was easy and not to be missed. The banana pancakes were great! The staff even better - Johnny and Elvin were stand out gentleman, extremely patient and helpful with our large group with many kids (ages 6-16) - not an easy duty. Tubing was an afternoon ritual to cool off before drinks and dinner. The kids loved the animal visits to the restaurant deck - many good memories. And following along with some of the other reviews, yes, the birds were amazing - that first morning I had to get up early and walk into the fields and soak it all in - I've heard no natural chorus like it before. Even more amazing was the absolute silence in the middle of the night! I could go on and on. DuPlooys- I highly recommend it!

    Tom2017-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • This place was fantastic. All the members in our party had a great time. Tubing in the river or just playing in the water was great. La Casona was just beautiful and much larger than we expected. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Located in the Center of all the great attractions. Benque Resort is the closest hotel to see everything. Why spend valuable time and money on taxis during your precious vacation time. Spend time seeing the attractions, not in a car.
Visit the Mopan River right outside your door, take in the towering mayan pyramid of Xunantunich. Enjoy a jungle walk through old growth forest, talk with a traditional Mayan medicine man.
  • Benque Resort Spa... Cozy, comfortable and convenient are some of the words i'd use to describe this place. The location was very secluded and away from the city traffic. Also in close proximity was a river with a gorgeous view of the village. What I love the most was the treatment received from the host, Steve. He was very knowledgeable, prompt, personable and high spirited. He made me feel like one of the locals. He is a very honest, genuine and funny guy with lots of funny stories to tell which made the road trip very entertaining. He recommended lots of cool places that were super inexpensive with more attractions, something most people wouldn't do. The tour was fun and i get to see so many amazingly beautiful sites, almost make me wanna move to Belize. Since I came back to the US, I spoke to a few people about the resort and everyone was convince that this is the place they would want to stay on their visit or next trip. I will rate this my best overall place to stay in the Belize. What a great trip and I certainly made a true friend out of it. Thank you Steve.

  • If you want an adventure that you will never forget, through jungles, caves, waterfalls, and ancient Mayan ruins, Benque Resort is the perfect choice for you. Steve, the host of Benque Resort, knows everything Belize has to offer. So I highly recommend you do yourself a huge favor and consult with him as soon as you arrive to save yourself the stress of trying to figure out the Belizean way on your own. He was very accommodating as well. My girlfriend and I were placed in a room with seven twin sized bunk-beds and a missing screen that rendered us unable to open one of only two windows for air. We were disappointed because this was not the room we booked. Our listing promised/pictured a king sized bed. We notified Steve as soon as we arrived and he moved us to a better room as soon as it was available three days after our arrival, which we greatly appreciated as it helped us change the direction of our trip which was headed pretty south initially. Steve even gave us a tour around the area for a much cheaper price than the regular Belizean tour guides ($75 per person from 8:30-10:00pm) where we saw several breathtaking waterfalls, two caves and a mayan ruin. He also made several visits to our room throughout the duration of our stay to offer us his knowledge of Benque and San Ignacio by showing us all of the best local restaurants, tortillarias, markets, etc. He also knows of all the cheaper places to buy great food, which really helps if money is tight. I highly recommend consulting with him immediately upon your arrival since the town is run down and a little intimidating at first, making it difficult to find food or adventures if you don’t know where to look. Everything is walking distance including the Guatemalan border, Mopan river, and the Mayan ruin Xunantinuch, which makes Benque Resort a perfect location for those of you jungle-goers. Overall our stay was great once we were relocated to a room that better suited our needs. My girlfriend and I had to depart early due to an unforeseen circumstance but Steve was gracious enough to reimburse us for the last two days in which we did not stay. Also, do NOT let the taxi drivers rip you off because they tend to raise their rates if they think you’re a tourist! Taxis should be very cheap from the BZE airport to the Belize City bus station and the bus to Benque from Belize City is $8 Belize per person. When you arrive at the Benque bus station, don’t let them hail you a cab to take you to the resort. It is a straight walk up the road - around 8 minutes. You can save some cash by walking around and taking the bus wherever you need to go! Thanks again Steve, you were a great host and we hope to return for more amazing adventures!

    Alexa2016-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • The town of Benque was everything I hoped it would be, in terms of quiet and relaxation, and Steve was very helpful in pointing me in the right direction with where I needed to go. The Resort and Spa is still a work in progress, but I was impressed with the unique woodwork and its central location. Steve is continuing to make improvements on the property and I look forward to returning and staying at the Resort and Spa in the future.

  • I was very pleased with my stay at Benque. Steve and his family made me feel very welcomed.

    Pascale2015-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • Steve and Juliette were such great hosts who really made our time in Benque! Not only were they kind but Steve was full of information about our surrounding area and the best excursions available. He even took us on an excursion himself to a beautiful waterfall. Great room, great price, great people- what more could you ask for!

    Meredith2015-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for adventures, this is the place to go. The location is fantastic. Depending on what your interests are, Steve will accommodate to ensure you have a wonderful vacation. Over a long weekend, I visited caves, learned Mayan secrets, swam in the waterfalls, trekked through the jungles, and enjoyed the local atmosphere. This is definitely not the typical vacation. Plan to go back for the next treasure hunt!

  • Santiago and Nabitunuch were by far the most memorable part of our trip to Belize. His hospitality and knowledge of the area were unparalleled and our only wish was that we had more time at the farm! Suzi was a great facilitator and was always quick to respond to our inquiries with recommendations and clear directions. Our stay in our rustic cabin was simply lovely and we will definitely return!

We took a horse ride to Xunantunich, which was amazing. Our guide was a pleasure as was our entire stay. Our nights at dinner and other meals and random moments getting to know and talk with Santiago the host of Hannah Stables was an absolute joy. He is a man whose passion for life spills over into the joy of being on that land. We would definitely love to make it back to San Ignacio and Hannah Stables again.

  • We loved our stay. Terry and Santiago were fabulous hosts. Delicious food and completely gorgeous surroundings. We loved staying outside of San Ignacio but being close enough to quickly take the bus into town.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Hanna Stables. Suzi replied very promptly and helpfully to all of my messages, and Santiago was a wonderful host; it was a pleasure getting to know him and the other guests during our stay. The cottages themselves are very simple, but after all the activities we did during the day that was more than enough for us. Overall, a great experience!

  • This was one of the most wonderful, magical travel experiences I've ever had. The farm is absolutely gorgeous. The food is all fresh from the farm and delicious, the best we had in Belize. The location is great, not far from downtown San Ignacio and very close to Xunantunich (we walked there or you can horseback ride there!). Everyone working there was so friendly and kind and welcoming, we really felt like we were staying with family. Santiago is simply the greatest host and made us feel completely at home, was so helpful with any of our questions about activities, and really just made the experience beyond incredible. We are so thankful to have found this place!

  • We absolutely loved our stay at Hanna Stables and our 3 nights really weren't enough. The Cayo District is beautiful with so much to see and do. With only 2 full days at our disposal, we only scratched the surface. The farm is gorgeous - set amongst lush green rainforest with distant views of some Muyan ruins. It was awesome to hang out with other guests, and mingle with all that worked there. Santiago was very helpful with organising our activities and he was awesome to chat to generally. The meals onsite were fabulous. Big servings, super healthy and served to you whenever it was convenient. I would highly recommend staying here!

  • It was nice peaceful quiet atmosphere.the views were great.

  • Suzi answered all of my questions before arriving and handled our private transportation to the farm. During our stay Santiago was an amazing host and always made sure we were well taken care of. Whatever concerns or questions we had he answered them and even joined us nightly for dinner. We ate a delicious breakfast and dinner on the farm everyday while we were there and always left full and satisfied. The grounds of the farm, animals, as well as the cottages were well taken care of and clean. You can even walk to the Mopan River from the farm. Our favorite tour during our stay in Belize was horseback riding to Xunantunich with William. We highly recommend staying at Hanna Stables. Having Santiago as our host was the best part of our trip to Belize. Thank you!

Our home is close to one of the best attractions in Belize, The Xunantunich Mayan Temple. ( 8 minutes drive) If you prefer not being in the midst of all the downtown attraction, our place is located only about 6 minutes drive to town (approx. 4 miles) . You’ll love our home because of the coziness and the unique location - it is like living in the jungle because of the peace and tranquility.
After a long day of exploring Belize, you will want to enjoy peacefully sleeping on our soft and cozy queen bed. The bathroom is a shared bath with another private room in the house, however as hosts, we will not be sharing the bathroom with you. Shower has hot and cold water. Ceiling Fan + standing fan + air conditioning. (Feel free to use whichever makes you more comfortable). Housekeeping services except on Saturdays & Sundays. Very flexible with our check-in and check-out hours as long as there was not a guest staying the previous day you checked in.
Our neighborhood is very peaceful and quiet. Located approximately four miles from downtown, there are only four other houses in our neighborhood. We are surrounded by teak trees so it almost feels like you're living in the jungle.

  • Me and my wife stayed in the penthouse suite at the Avana Villa for four nights during our honeymoon and had a wonderful time. Murray and Martha were charming, funny, and helpful our whole stay. The room itself was spacious and comfortable with a huge private balcony, small kitchen, and large bathroom. It was great having our own space and being able to cook our own meals after spending a week at a resort! The property is a bit of a rough drive to get to - despite being only a mile off the main highway, the dirt road in can be rough. We had a hard time adjusting to life without air conditioning our first night in, but by the second night were very comfortable - temperature in the mid-70s. Being on the top floor you get great cross-breezes. The penthouse is on the fourth story and has amazing views. You're up at canopy level with the birds and the stars. It felt like a private island up there. Overall, we had a wonderful stay at Avana Villa and would recommend it to anyone looking for a home base for some exploration of Western Belize!

  • We had the privilege of spending a week here and it is truly a slice of paradise! The pictures really don't do it justice - we had the penthouse and the space was huge, clean and beautiful. Kitchen was fully equipped, huge shower was separate from toilet with a large dressing room, the expansive balcony offered amazing views. My husband and I had our 2 girls, 6 & 10, with us and they were as enamored by this place as we were. Martha and Murray are so friendly and helpful and welcome you into their home like a close friend. They are full of knowledge about the best restaurants, driving times to different locations, etc. We needed an extra week just to hang out around the property more! The property is like an oasis right outside of town - you are on 20 acres of beautiful grounds but a mere 10 minute drive to downtown San Ignacio, with restaurants, shops, grocery, gas. They welcomed my girls like they were family, allowing them to help bottle feed the young lambs and drink from the coconuts on the property. The kids loved the pool and especially the dogs - we had to take a bunch of pics with them before the girls would leave. This property is completely off grid (a huge plus in our eyes!) but if you can't handle not having every light on all night, or hate dogs or can't drive on a dirt road - maybe not for you (although, maybe Belize isn't really for you either...) I highly recommend this amazing property and these really amazing owners!

  • Avana is an oasis of gardens and tree plantations. The penthouse had incredible Vistas and we could hear many bird species including parrots; as well as howler monkeys. The hosts were very accommodating. The lodging was spacious. The kitchen was well equipped. We had a rental car and were able to visit many interesting sites in the area. San Ignacio was very close to get supplies and book tours.

  • Martha and Murray made us feel at home on the top story of this incredible house in the jungle. We were looking for a nice place to stay while in San Ignacio and we found it. A little off the beaten path this luxurious home provided us with a 360 degree view of the jungle. We were able to live like royalty on top of this penthouse. Accommodations were comfortable with four people as one of us enjoyed sleeping under the stars. Martha booked us the must do ATM cave spelunking tour which picked us up and dropped us off right at home. Martha and Murray are incredibly kind and friendly. Easy to talk to and very open. I will definitely revisit once I return to this jungle paradise.

  • Avana Villa was wonderful. Martha was incredibly nice and helpful. We decided not to rent a car since taxis into town were less expensive and Martha was able to recommend a great driver that we could call wherever we were. The estate was gorgeous and just as pictured. We definitely hope to be back.

  • I was very disappointed with the service from this hotel. I originally booked a garden suite, but then upgraded for an ocean view room. It was approved a day later and I was charged. Upon arriving the man in the office did not have our reservation update written in their reservation book. I explained the situation, showed him the upgrade confirmation and he just responded with "no, I have it written for a garden room". I could see in the book that the Goff ocean view room was reserved for another party. I asked if I could have the Turnoff room which I could see was unbooked. He responded with "no someone is using it". Even though clearly it was not written down... He then got Roger on the phone and his only response was "no the book says garden suite room". I had not gotten a response from my messages from Roger before my trip, asking for tourist advice, nor did I get a response even after I canceled my reservation. I feel that this host does not care about customer service. HOWEVER Airbnb themselves have been very quick to respond, was apologetic and were able to issue me a refund for not staying at the barefoot caribe.

  • One of the best views from infinity saltwater pool. Far enough away from town for peace and quiet or a short ride into town for lively action in San Ignacio/Stana Elena. Daisy at the front desk was pleasant and endearing making our first impression of staff, great. it's a family ran business and families live on or near property, showing pride to the whole estate.

  • Quiet retreat just 5 minutes by taxi to the city. The staff are extremely friendly. Unfortunately activities were limited due to rainy season flooding ATM and stuff but I enjoyed my stay! The French toast was amazing in the restaurant.

  • Clean room, comfortable bed, A/C is working great. Steve was really helpful in everything. The airline lost my luggage and the only means of communication between me and the airline was through Steve. He offers tours to his guests but I wasn't able to go with him since I had separate plans. My only concern is the wifi signal is not that strong and it goes on and off. Also an insect repellant is a must!

  • This is the farthest thing from a resort you will ever find on the entire globe. It is located on the worst side of town and far from any restaurants or bars and quite frankly an area that leaves you feeling unsafe. The room was ridiculously bare with no fridge, micro, tv or anything at all to fend for yourself eating meals. There is NO facilities to cook, have ice or even lounge in a common area. The faucets and shower are so corroded that water barely exits and the bath sink is so clogged that when I used it it sprayed all over the front of my pants from the faucet. The wifi was nonexistent in my room which required I sit on a wooden bench in the mosquito infested open air entryway where the local dogs come inside to crap. I messaged Steve to let him know I would be going to Tikal when I made reservation to which he responded he could give great travel tips. One of the reasons I booked here was the reviews of his tours and I intended to seek out the nature sights shown in the pics for his listing and get a massage. I was there 3 days and did not see Steve the entire time. Apparently the "spa" is a secret place that no one knows. I found on my own all I needed to get to Tikal and back. The worst part was the fact that I got absolutely no sleep the entire stay as the dog chained to a post on a 6 foot chain that lives next door HOWLS non stop the entire night it is so miserable. The owners of the dog should be arrested. The neighbors dogs howling gets all the dogs in the entire area barking and howling and the noise is unbearable and no one does anything to quash it. I have literally stayed at Airbnbs all over the world and this is truly the worst experience I have ever had. DO NOT STAY HERE. It is overpriced, under serviced and the listing is completely misrepresented. I don't know where he got the positive reviews but everyone staying there that I talked to said to me exactly what I am saying here. I met a wonderful couple riding their bikes across the world and they said they felt unsafe and she posted it on their blog. These people felt unsafe and they have bicycled across Mexico. You be the judge.

  • We had a great time exploring in Benque. We got to see many of the local adventure sites thanks to Steve. He is very accommodating and quick to take you anywhere you would like to go. It is a great spot to stay because the location is right on the river and close to any activity you may want to do!

    Kayla2015-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • The Benque Resort was perfect for me. The room was spacious and the balcony looked out over the rooftops, treetops, and the river. The owners were very friendly and eager to share a wealth of information about getting to the stunning waterfalls, hikes, and caves in the area. The town is sweet with tropical flowers and pecking chickens everywhere. If you prefer a more upscale hotel in a more elegant location, with everything in perfect repair and staff available 24/7 this may not be your place. However, for the budget traveler, this is a find.

    Emily2016-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • Benque Resort was an amazing place to stay, especially for our first time in Belize. It is nestled in the heart of the small town, about 5 blocks from where the bus dropped us off. Staying in Benque Viejo really immersed us in local culture and gave us what we felt was a genuine experience and nothing commercial/touristy. True and a little gritty, we loved it! The view from the deck off our room was great, we could see the Mopan River, the neighborhood and the mountains in the distance. The hotel and our room were clean and very nice. Our room had a ceiling fan so we were pretty comfortable at night. Tons of beautiful wood in the building. Steve, the owner, was the most amazing host! He found us on our walk to the hotel and gave us a ride the rest of the way. He recommended activities and restaurants, and set us up for a private cave tour of Actun Chapat that blew our minds. He also took us out for a 12 hour day of exploring caves, waterfalls, Mayan ruins, a suspension bridge, a local kombucha/yoga place, and told us all about Mayan history and more along the way. We are very glad to have met him and stayed at his place. 100% recommend doing the same!

    Nellie2015-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Steve (the owner) was very welcoming, hospitable and helpful. He gave us many excellent suggestions for tours, activities, experiences and food. The breakfast suggestion across the street was fantastic, as was the caving experience! Benque Resort was comfortable, clean and perfect for our stay. It was a touch hard to find for our shuttle driver, but asking some of the local people let us find it no problem (don't let them send you across the river!!) Our room was more than large enough with great bathroom facilities. The wifi did not quite reach our room but we could use it in the hallway or lobby area. We had a beautiful balcony which we really enjoyed over New Years Eve! Benque as a town was small and interesting- very 'off the beaten path' so to speak. It has a lot of history surrounding it, and is a great location to get away from the touristy hubbub that you might find elsewhere. One thing I would caution- nothing is open on holidays so prepare your food before hand, or pop over to San Ignacio. We had such a great stay that we extended for one additional night- thank you Benque Resort and Steve!

    Sarah2015-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Had such a great time staying here! The room is very nice and clean with hot showers! Hard to come by in Belize, so we were happy about that :) Steve took us on an amazing tour for a fantastic price which I highly recommend! He will show you so many amazing places, waterfalls you can cliff dive off, secret caves with mud baths, recently discovered ruins that you didn't even know existed! You'll have a blast GUARANTEED! Steve is hilarious and full of amazing stories! Will keep the tour very interesting and ensure your stay in Belize exceeds your expectations!
