  • We stayed at Silva's place for one night and liked the lodge a lot. If you are going to Rio Celeste for one day only, it's the perfect place for a pit stop. You have to be prepared for a bumpy ride but once you get to the rainforest lodge you know it was worth it. The house is build completely out of wood, everything is very new and lovely decorated with a lot of attention to detail. Silva was also responsive and helpful.

  • We had a wonderful stay. The place is simple but perfectly equipped and very comfortable. Make sure you plan enough time to get to it before the sun sets.

  • It was such an adventure staying here. We were only there for one night because we wanted to be close to Rio Celeste. The setting was rural and beautiful. Make sure you stop at a store for water and food. We did not have enough drinking water with us and didn't plan well for breakfast the next morning. There is nothing around so be prepared. on our 10 day trip to Costa Rica, we stayed in many types of hotels, hostels, and homes. This was our favorite. Great for the adventure seeker.

  • Great set back location... Nice and simple... Close to Rio Celeste with beautiful scenery on the way... Definitely see why 4 wheel drive is recommended...

  • My young son and I arrived before nightfall as Sylvia had suggested, not only was it easier to unpack and get comfortable, we also had time to sit on the veranda and enjoy the sights and sounds of twilight under the jungle canopy. The rustic modern small house was the perfect place to spend our down time. My son loved playing in the river and could have spent every day there! Sylvia was right about the neighbors. They were super sweet. Our short stay felt like we had stopped time which is my favorite type of vacation. Sylvia, you are a perfect host and have a wonderful place that my son and I look forward to returning to every year!

  • I fell in love with Costa Rica and fell in love with Silvia's wonderful place. It's a hidden jewel in the middle of Nature. I am definitely going back. Thank you Silvia!

  • Leda's place is beautiful and rustic, exactly how I like it. Lead is warm, friendly, so helpful, caring and she makes an amazing breakfast. At Leda's place, I felt like I was really experiencing life in Costa Rica, sharing stories and generally hanging out with Leda during down times. The activities she suggested for us and helped arrange have been highlights of our trip, most especially the tour of the chocolate farm. Also, we loved Bijagua and as we conclude three weeks in CR, I can honestly say the most authentic and memorable stay was at Leda's. Thank you, Leda!

    Sophie2017-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • The surroundings are great! The best part is the resident sloth!!!! Also the breakfast is pretty great. Hard to find though, make sure to drive up to the lyceo de Bijagua, follow the road until after the bridge and Leda's place is on your right. People in the street can point you to the place, but tell them you are looking for Leda, they dont know the name Paz entre Volcanos.

  • The accommodation is very clean, common areas is very pleasant as well. Breakfast was lovely. Leda doesn't speak English, but her grand daughter speaks English. Leda is a local in the area, she gives local advices about bus schedule and routes, which is very beneficial. Would stay here again if I ever come to Bijagua.

  • Sweet Leda! Leda was one of the best Airbnb hosts I have had. She was kind, generous, welcoming and made me feel at home. My friend and I felt comfortable to walk around her farm as if it were our own and we thoroughly enjoyed the scenery. There are two beautiful rivers that converge on Leda's property where monkeys and sloths hang out. Leda is a wonderful gardener so there are so many flowers to see, which also attract many interesting birds and butterflies. Although the home is outside of town in what feels like a secluded location because of the peace and quiet, it is a very short walk into town for restaurants and is very close to Tenorio National Park, which has lovely hiking trails, a stunning waterfall a volcano lookout and the most amazing blue river. Leda is very knowledgable about the area as she grew up there and so she is able to make great suggestions for things to do during the day. Even though Leda does not speak English, she was very patient with my Spanish and helped me work on it over a drink in the evenings. I would HIGHLY recommend visiting Leda and her family if you are looking for an enchanting environment, off the tourist track. Thank you Leda, for a wonderful end to my stay in Costa Rica.

  • Valerie was not home when we stayed at her house. She was very quick to respond to the airbnb text which was a plus. Her property was pretty and it is int he very small town of Zapoate. The mountains and rivers were amazing. The best part of the experience there were the people I befriended while staying there. The Howler monkeys were an alarm clock and what a great way to start the day! The cons- the bed and ALL the linens smelt like mildew. It is pet friendly but with that came flea bites- ugh! Additionally there was no room in the fridge for ur foods- it appeared as though someone was living in the unit and not prepped for guest arrival. All in all if you are looking for very simple accommodations and want to be close to Celeste Falls I recommend this place. It was nice to not have drive a distance to get to our next adventure.

    Lasya2016-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Valerie was an amazing host and her home in Bijagua (specifically the neighborhood of Zapote) were stunning! The location has a HUGE backyard with beautiful plant life and access to a small river where you can get into. There were hammocks in the backyard where my friends and I spent most of our time if we weren't exploring the surrounding parks or the town which are all within a 30 minute drive from. The home itself is lovely and comfortably slept 3 people (2 in a room and 1 on beds in the living room) with ample space to store all of our belongings. We would always have a hot shower after a long day's hike and felt safe in the small neighborhood and around Bijagua. Valerie opened up her home and we were allowed free range of all the amenities from the fridge, the outdoor fireplace, and everything in between. To top it all off, Valerie is a great cook and made us a delicious dinner and I'd highly suggest taking her up on the offer for only $5 (~2500 colones). She and a friend even took time to show us around Tenorio National Park and the Rio Celeste waterfall which was a huge plus since we only spoke a little Spanish and having her around was extremely helpful. Getting to Zapote is possible with a 2WD vehicle during dry season which is when we went but I would recommend a 4WD if the weather predicts rain or you go during the rainy season as the roads are a little bumpy and traction may become an issue when wet. Also, it will make accessing some of the hiking trails around Bijagua and other areas easier. However as I mentioned earlier, my friends and I were able to get to most places with our 2WD sedan. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed our time with Valerie and in her home. My friends and I couldn't have asked for a better location to have as a home base for exploring or a better host as a guide for places to go! Especially for the price, this place can't be beat and if we're back in Bijagua we'll definitely be looking to stay with Valerie again!

    Jet2017-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • The location is in a stunning farming village. The town Zopate is a population of 50 people. Everyone was incredibly friendly and we feel we have made lasting friendships. Valerie wasn't present while we stayed at her place but she was super helpful with all of our questions. Her directions are spot on so just trust them. Marce was who hosted us. She was sweet and made us feel comfortable and at home. If you are looking for affordable stay in Costa Rician country side, this is the best! Getting away from technology is so refreshing as well (but if you need it it is easy to get in town)

  • Mayra was a terrific hostess; the place was clean, neat, and cozy. A short walking distance from a beautiful trail she recommended--do not miss. Close to Rio Celeste, which--with a 4X4--is an easy ride away, and splendid. Upon arrival, Mayra had muffins and a delicious fresh-squeezed juice waiting for us. We look forward to coming back some day!

    Maya2016-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • We visited Bijagua to walk along the blue Rio Celeste. Mayra's place was really nice and cosy. On the pictures the woorden shutters for the windows are closed, once opened you will have a view to the splendid garden. Mayra works nearby so there is no hassle with the keys. The house has a washing machine but Mayra offered to do our laundry in her better one. Alltogether a great place to stay, thanks Mayra!

    Krijn2016-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Mayra's place was a relaxing retreat for us. It is definitely rustic and more secluded but the area is beautiful. The flowers and the view are breathtaking. It was equipped with everything we needed but is definitely basic. Mayra was a wonderful host. She was very helpful and hospitable, even called to reserve a tour for us.

    Nicole2017-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • Mayra is lovely! She waited at the bus stop to pick us up and take us to the cabin, despite our bus being hours late, and took us back at the end of our stay. She was also very helpful in arranging transportation around town and recommending places. The cabin was adorable and clean. It felt like our own small home. Would definitely come back and recommend to all!

The casita is about a 10 minute walk from the center of the town. There is a public park, supermarket, restaurants, shops, bank, and bus stop. The Liberia Airport is about a 50 minute drive from Bijagua. You can get to our town by bus or rental car. You’ll love the casita because it is surrounded by nature. It's spacious, close to town, and close to our home so you'll have support if you need anything. The casita is perfect for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids).

  • Staying with Isleny and her family was fantastic! Our bus arrived after dark and they had a van to take us to the hostel because we were not familiar with the area. The rooms and hostel were very clean and there are many places to lounge around. The kitchen has everything you need to cook and they even allowed us to use a side of their fridge. In the morning Isleny brought us hot bread and coffee, which were both delicious. When we wanted to go to Rio Celeste they drove us to the park (for a small fee) and then drove us to an area where we could swim in the river. It was so much fun! They answered all our questions and were very polite and accommodating. If I ever plan on coming back to Bijagua I will definitely stay at Rio Celeste Backpackers Hostel.

    Valerie2016-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • What an incredible experience! When we arrived we were kindly greeted by our hosts with a fresh glass of mango juice. They were warm, welcoming, and the room was clean and quiet. We met some other travelers that invited us to join in a BBQ that evening. The hosts took us frog hunting at night and showed us some amazing bugs and plants on the property. It was a really great experience. This is a private room in a hostel environment. They have a few small dorm rooms with bunk beds but our room was completely private. There were two shared bathrooms but it was never a problem to use them. We loved having others around to share travel stories with and get tips on the places we were going next. In the morning they had fresh bread from the bakery and hot coffee ready to go. I can't express enough how kind, generous, and welcoming our hosts were and we will certainly be staying here again the next time we are in Costa Rica!

    Tom2016-04-03T00:00:00Z
  • Isleny and her family were very welcoming, super sweet and helped us with whatever we needed. The rooms were clean and nice, we even went on a mini frog expedition which I thought was very cool! The next morning, we were given coffee and breakfast. A language barrier is never there when you have such amazing hosts making an effort to talk. We had a great time and would love to come back again

    Srivatsa2016-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • All in all an incredible value for a stay in bijagua. The location was central, and the property is really incredible. There were frogs near a pond on the property which was really awesome to visit. Additionally, the breakfast they serve is really good (ours was a homemade jam with pancakes or fresh bread). Finally, kevin was the man-- really knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this air bnb.

    Reilly2017-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely perfect!!! Couldn't be more convenient from the Rio Celeste/Tenorio National Hike (just 9km), and the absolute warmest family runs it. We loved hanging out with them and the other guests, but also enjoyed lots of quiet time in their hammocks! We're so glad we decided to make this stop between Arenal and Monteverde, and couldn't imagine staying any place better!!

He also made calls to local restaurants for us to make sure they are open late and to make reservations. He even recommended best roads to take considering we had a small rental car. Service in the Hotel was amazing too, Juan provided everything we asked for. Thank you Juan!

  • Our stay at Cacao B&B was amazing, as is Juan. The rooms are spacious and there's plenty of storage space. The shower has hot water and good pressure. The kitchen area is adorable and relaxing, with some amazing people to converse with. The staff here are all very accessible and friendly and love to talk about the flora and fauna of the area, of which they are very knowledgable. Tenorio National Park is a short drive away. They were recently paving this northern entrance, making Cacao B&B an ideal location for park access. We walked around for supplies and to eat out a few times. The town feels very safe and easy to navigate. The biggest stand-out about Juan's place is the surroundings and the grounds. The views are breathtaking and the vibe super chill. We definitely plan to come back just to hang out with a good book and coffee. This might be the most relaxing place you ever go to. We highly recommend it!

+ rafting, hiking, tubing, otros(ing) within 30 min.
  • Wonderful place to stay while traveling to the Rio Celeste. Clean, secluded but close to town and restaurants. A+

They are very knowledgeable of the area and can share some great places to see. The room was great and well equipped. It has a nice private porch that faces the jungle and you can watch the fireflies at night. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and plentiful.

  • Finca Verde is a beautiful place. Very simple cabin accommodations, but the simplicity helped exemplify the nature. For example, you can see so many stars and at dusk you could hear the crickets singing! We ate at the restaurant at Finca Verde. It was delicious and reasonably priced. Overall, would highly recommend staying here!

  • The photos don't do this place justice! Our stay here was magical. Carole & her husband, Jacques, are fantastic, kind-hearted humans. I'd recommend this place in a heartbeat & would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Bijagua.

    LeeAnn2017-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay with Carole and Jacques. The guest house is sort of a shotgun arrangement, with each room opening out onto a covered porch. From the porch, you have a beautiful view to enjoy with your breakfast or evening wine. The rooms are simple but comfortable. Hot water in the shower was plentiful. The well-stocked kitchen was great - Carole provided coffee, fresh eggs from her kitchen, good bread, and plates of cut fruit. A feast! Be sure to get detailed directions before you go. The house is not difficult to find from the landmarks Carole provided, but you want to arrive in daylight the first time. The road up to the house is in rough shape, but once you get to the paved road you're close to the town and Tenorio National Park.

    Deborah2017-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Carole and Jacques were very friendly and accommodating. The place itself is set on a beautiful hillside location with a panoramic view that the pictures don't even do justice. Farm fresh eggs and bananas picked from their property were provided for breakfast, as well as a kitchen, pots/pans/utensils. The location is very close to the road to Rio Celeste (which itself is a rough, bumpy road), and the town of Bijagua (supermarkets, a few restaurants, a bank). Some things to be aware of: the road to the property can be a little rough and hilly - 4-wheel drive might be a good idea (our little Jimny had no trouble); there is no A/C, but there is a lovely mountain breeze; there are no bug screens on the windows in the guest house - as such, keeping bugs out and the temperature comfortable was a balancing act. Finally, the location is a little rural, and may not be as posh as some would expect. It all depends on what you are looking for!

    James2016-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Carole and her husband were extremely welcoming and friendly, we were blown away by the beauty of their property (best view EVER!). The pictures don't do it justice! The accomidation is really well built and thought out with a wonderfully large outdoor patio space. We traveled as two couples and found the separate bedrooms perfectly private and comfortable. The beds are very comfortable and we had the best nights rest of our whole trip. The kitchen was fully stocked with fresh eggs, fruit, bread, jam and butter which we really appreciated :) Lots of opportunities to bird watch, we saw a bunch of colourful toucans! The fields of sheep and roaming chickens were a delight. This is the perfect homebase to check out the beautiful Rio Celeste which is about 11 km away. Fabulous private location!

  • A cute little place in a quiet, residential neighbourhood. It's about a 20 minute walk along a track to get into town - doable but you should take a torch if you plan to go out for dinner or drinks. Marlon, the host, was very friendly and helpful and speaks excellent English. The house itself is small but has a nice outdoor area where you can watch the birds - there are loads of hummingbirds! However, we found that while the double beds were fine, the single camp beds were very uncomfortable.

  • We had a warm welcoming from Pip Kelly. We stayed 2 nights in Casa Luna which was perfect for a couple like us…beautiful scenery and very peaceful. The house was very clean with a nice design. We specially enjoyed our breakfast for two reasons : so good (we are missing the homemade bread that Pip served us) and bird watching. There is a nice variety of birds.

    Jasmine2016-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Isleny and her family are the sweetest people in the world, they were absolutely lovely to stay with. I took the public bus to and from RCB; If you're doing the same, remember to find out what stop to get off at in Bijagua (I believe it's the first one, which is very close to their house). I speak only the most stilted, elementary Spanish but Isleny's daughter speaks great English and her husband spoke enough for us to get by with. Isleny doesn't speak English but one night when it was just us left at the house we had a lovely evening trying to chat. Again, they are just super-friendly, generous people. You can walk into town from RCB to pick up groceries or get dinner at the various restaurants. It's around 10k to the Rio Celeste park entrance. I caught a ride with some other guests there in the morning (you can take a taxi if you don't have a car). If you have the time and energy (and an umbrella) the walk back is gorgeous.

  • I'd recommend Cataratas lodge without hesitation. Its an amazing spot, tucked into the jungle, in rural Bijagua. Warner (the owner) is incredible helpful, and friendly, and helped us with figuring out our itinerary on a rainy day, booking hotsprings, and recommending hikes (though his english is limited). The breakfast is simple, but tasty. Be aware that this is rural and remote. You'll need your own transportation. Don't miss the hike to the waterfall, which was one of our favorite spots which we found in our week in CR. We can't wait to come back!

  • We spent an unforgettable moment in this lodge. A warm welcome, a magnificent and very comfortable place!! The balcony around the room gave on the garden which is magnificent with so much flowers and birds, very beautiful!!! The room was very clean and very well ordered for 4 people. Animals are present and nearby like colibris!!!! We will come back for sure!! I recommend this place!!!! IT WAS PERFECT!!!

  • Great place to visit with kids, I personally recommend visiting the Tenorio National Park / Río Celeste (awesome). There are some nearby restaurants, FYI you'll need a car and don't let anyone tell you different this cabins are FAR from the bus drop off, specially if you're coming with kids. I would definitely recommend this place to anybody that wants to visit the Rio Celeste park.

La Casita Azul is a simple but very authentic little wooden cabin. Our finca is located on the edge of a small village at the foot of Vulcano Tenorio in the northern part of Costa Rica. It is an idyllic place, enveloped by the rain forrest where horses are still ridden as a main way of transportation. We are mainly self sufficient. We produce cheese, yogurt and other milk products; we grow organic fruits, plenty of organic vegetables and coffee.
If you feel like spending a few days in a quiet natural place off the beaten track and away from major tourism you are welcome to visit us.
  • If you're looking for an adventure, look no further! The casita is up on the hills side with amazing fews, great people and wonderful food. Andi and Angi were beyond helpful when I needed directions and help finding my way. I recommend this casita if you are hoping to unplug and connect with your roots!! Gracias Andi and Angi!

    christelle2016-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay with Andi and Angi! The casita is very cosy and the area is beautiful. We especially liked getting to see their farm and hear about their process in creating it. We stayed here after visiting Rio Celeste.

    Mary Claire2017-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • La Casita Azul is a charming, rustic place to stay near Bijagua, and Andi and Angi are wonderful hosts. We give this location a five star rating. Here are some tips. We drove a low-clearance, sedan-style rental car, and observed the gravel road to be very difficult to traverse. It is full of very large rocks, steep places, large potholes and puddles. It is do-able in a small car but not all the way; you will need 4x4 to get the whole way. We parked on the roads shoulder when we felt that we might have difficulty getting back out. We walked perhaps 1/4 mile to La Casita Azul. Also, the little blue house is very rustic. It is well-built, clean and tidy, but open to the air (which we enjoyed). An armadillo crossed our path on the walk uphill, and a gecko greeted us inside the little blue house. Unfortunately we could not get the hot water to work so we skipped showers. I am sure Andi and Angi would have helped us with this but it was late at night and we didn't want trouble them. This is a scenic setting among banana trees and all sorts of tropical plants. We enjoyed a robust rainstorm on the tin roof during the night. We would stay here again! Andi and Angi made us a delicious breakfast and visited with us before we left. They are very friendly and helpful.

    Luke and Brenna2016-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • Andi and Angi made us live a unique experience through our trip to Costa rica. We received more than what we expected from that adventure at their place: We expected to discover the wonders of the area from the Casita Azul but we ended up sharing an even better human experience from the time we shared with them and their lifestyle. Inspiring place, and very inspiring people!

    David2017-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Andi and Angi are very nice people, we loved their hospitality sense. Their way of life is very respectfull of nature. The breakfast is just wonderfull. The casita azul is atypical and quiet totally integrated in the environnement. We recommand without hesitation

    Charlotte2017-03-26T00:00:00Z

  • We reserved a cabinas with Simon the same day that we were traveling. He accepted are demand quietly. When we got at the cacao farm Simon greeted us at are car, very friendly. He didn't not communicate that there were no more private cabinas available upon are reservation. But Simon accommodated us by doing some arrangement after a period of wait

  • The lodge was beautiful. The cabin we stayed in had a huge porch which was amazing for sitting and listening to the birds and having our coffee, that was available for us early as requested. There were friendly dogs and a cat who joined us on the porch. No one on the farm spoke English, but I speak a little Spanish so it was somewhat easy to communicate with the workers. They were very nice and patient regarding our conversations. They cooked us a traditional dinner and breakfast and arranged drivers for us. The only issue was finding the location and the drivers seemed to be complaining about the condition of the road. It did rain a lot recently and the dirt road appeared to be under construction. Overall we loved our stay and would return.

This a wonderful place to meet the nature, just in from of the entrance to the National Park. Its a pleasure offers you Lodging, food and differents activities nearby. Our rooms are perfectly equipped for your comfort, we have space for any type of people, our restaurant also awaits you with the best of the typical Costa Rican food and fast food. W are located in a strategic place, right in front of the entrance of the Volcano Tenorio National Park, with great comfort and an excellent price

We pay a amount for 3 people and end up paying $15 (URL HIDDEN) to Airb&b misquote .. that was annoying .. .. the good thing is the park is right in front of the property very convenient .. just make sure the rate u are getting is the right one

  • This gem is hidden deep but well worth the dig! Getting here was a little bit of a battle in our rented little 4x4 but it was very much worth it! So peaceful and beautiful!

    Stephen2016-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage was so pretty! Right by the Tenorio National Park, in fact if you want to go there, you could walk from the cabin just about. The grounds are amazing and the view of the surrounding mountains, animals and farmland is incredible. They have everything you can think of in the cabin from toiletries to camping gear and rain boots. Nelson is super nice and accommodating , especially if you speak spanish. If the clouds don't cover it, the stars are amazing. The owners were very good with directions and contact. BUT, bring everything you need with you, the road there is intense and about 30 minutes of super bouncy, rocky road. If you have a 4wd you will be fine but you can't just "go to the store" after you get here. Completely worth it though

    Leah2016-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Staying here was one of the best choices my husband and I could have made. The first time we came to Costa Rica we stayed along the coast but there is nothing more beautiful and serene than staying in the mountains. Cloud 9 was perfect. It's private and on beautiful property and walking distance from one of the world's most gorgeous treasures, the Rio Celeste. Not only was the property manager, Nelson, so helpful despite our poor Spanish speaking skills, the cabin has everything you could need for a stay in the mountains. Coffee pot, binoculars, telescope, and toiletries. If you want to go out for food, there's a wonderful family restaurant within walking distance called Tenario's Door. The best part of the cabin were the hammocks out on the back balcony overlooking mountains. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to see some of the best parts of Costa Rica, and the next time we come down here, we will be staying at Cloud 9. (If you do come out here, hike the trail to the waterfall but make sure you go to the end of the trail, that's where you will see the start of the unearthly blue color of the river) we also recommend going to a swimming hole, it's not at the park but you just need to follow the signs saying "natural surprise at the Rio Celeste" always wear good shoes and bring water, the trails are rocky :)

  • We arrived at cloud 9 after a bumpy road trip and little behind schedule and Nelson, the caretaker was waiting for us. This place was fabulous. It's not fancy but it was perfect. It's an cabin in the woods with no neighbors or no noise except birds and cows. The beds are comfortable and it is stocked with everything we needed, including binoculars and flashlights Taina the owner had set up a horse riding excursions with David. He is a local to the area. He took us down to Rio Celeste ( on his family's private land) where we swam and had the place to our self. Then had a Costa Rican lunch at his moms restaurant. Then rode through the rainforest. He picked us up with horses at the cabin and returned us there 6 hours later. It was very reasonable and the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. We loved cloud 9!!!

    Maria2016-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Taina's wooden cabin is a gem of a place tucked into the countryside near the spectacular Rio Celeste. It is a wonderful combination of simplicity and elegance providing everything needed for a great stay and exploration of the area. We used the binoculars and rubber boots during our exploration of the Rio Celeste and enjoyed the peace and quiet the cabin offered. In the morning we sipped our coffee from the hammock and in the evening we sipped our wine in the hammock. We found a lovely sense of peace and tranquility and recommend this location to any traveler who wants to explore the area. Nelson was wonderful and was very attentive to our arrival and departure and checked on us during our stay. He speaks no English which was fun for me to practice my Spanish. We loved Nelson. He is the secret sauce to this Airbnb listing.

    cynthia2016-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • What an authentic rainforest experience! The cabin is fully stocked and wonderfully private. Beds are cozy. There's even a yoga room and laundry. We couldn't have had a more relaxing time, especially because of Nelson's thoughtful attentiveness. The town of Pilon is just lovely--Rio Celeste is lovely, of course, but the charm of the corner restaurants and the friendliness of the community locals surpass the breathtaking sites. I think my favorite part was horseback riding through the rain in the jungle. Don't pass it up! All around, Cloud 9 lives up to its name.

    Alissa2016-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • Taina's cabin is well equipped. There were rain boots, binoculars, books, hammocks, a speaker, and a telescope for star gazing. You can cook in the small kitchen, but remember to bring groceries - the nearest real grocery is in Bijagua. The property is so beautiful! The landscape is especially pretty at sunset. You can walk to the park in 10 or 15 minutes. It takes 10 minutes to get to the mini mart, where you can buy beer, wine, and snacks. Nelson, the groundskeeper, is extremely helpful. I only speak limited Spanish and he was quite patient and attentive.

    Molly2016-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed Costa Rica. One of our top experiences was Rio Celeste and the lovely 'Clound Nine' due to the generous views, the beautiful waterfall, river and the hike in. We were met by Nelson whom made us feel right at home and totally comfortable. It was easy to book, great communication and the key swap was quite smooth. The house was perfect for the 4 of us, 2 couples. The sunsets, the property and the incredible porch. The property has all you'll need for cooking. Everything worked great. Dishes, coffee pot, towels and all provided. Even stuff for camping! The photos don't do this property justice and I highly recommend you stay here if you are looking near Rio Celeste and complete and udder privacy. If you only have nice shoes and you want to hike to the part of the river that is magical (color change) and it's muddy, wear the rubber boots or rent them at the park and bring socks. We did in our sandals but we are from Wisconsin and Chacos were perfect. Great little restaurant down the road, opposite of park, left turn towards a mini grocery and spa place. Typical cuisine and quite delicious. Very friendly. The mini-store had all we needed that night. Thank you!

    David2017-05-10T00:00:00Z
  • We actually did not spend the night at margoth. The room were not what we expected from a "ranch". This is actually kind of a small hostel in a small family house. It might be ok if you are looking for a cheap place to sleep close to rio celeste or if you want to meet locals. Margoth seemed very nice and welcoming. But we were looking for a cosy room for a couple to stay and that was not it. The double room is also too expansive for what it is (~30-35$ that night), compared to other airbnb experience we had in costa rica for the same range of price.

    Adrien2016-09-14T00:00:00Z

    Anne2017-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • We came to Margoth's place, searching for nice stay in the nature - and we found it. The accomodation was simple but made with a lot of love. The breakfast was awesome and we had a lot of fun talking with Margoth about nearlz everything. If you are searching for a non-touristic place in the nature, you found it. Pura vida!

  • Thank you margoth and her family for this time with them !! Margoth's house is typical and Nice ! We had a really greate time spending with them and discovering costa rican culture (& good and typical breakfast) and the animal who live close by the house in the forest (we have seen really beautifull frogs and some Armadillos !). Definitly recomanded of you want a really human and wild expérience !!

+ rafting, hiking, tubing, otros(ing) within 30 min.

  • Hands down the best place we've ever been to. If you think about going there, just do it and you won't be disappointed. The only downside was that we only stayed for one night...

    Christoph2017-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • Eric and Cecilia were both extremely pleasant and friendly, eager to make us feel welcome. The property was as advertised: lots of forest and garden, with a very comfortable room and marvelously hot shower. For breakfast, they had freshly baked homemade bread, fruit, and the best scrambled eggs I've had in my life, no question. Superb value. 10/10 would recommend.

  • This place was incredible. As good as it gets. They speak English, Spanish, French, and German fluently, so its easy for anyone to stay there! The room was clean, large, and comfortable. They made sure we had everything we needed. The internet worked great. The breakfast was fantastic! I just wish I had more time there. I only stayed one night and could have been there for an entire week.

Casitas Tenorio is our home and business. We are Donald Varela Soto and Pip Kelly. We met working together on a conservation project in Bijagua in 2001. Since then, we’ve turned our commitment to sustainable living into a working farm and eco tourism venture. Donald is originally from Bijagua and Pip is from rural Victoria in Australia. We have travelled extensively together and have also lived and worked in a remote Indigenous community in Western Australia. We are married and have two bilingual daughters. Bijagua is our home and we are committed to positively and sustainably developing our community. For us, this means preserving habitat for local wildlife and enabling sustainable tourism in the area. Casitas Tenorio is both a B&B and seven hectare working organic farm, producing dairy and other crops. We sell our milk to the cheese factory in town and also make our own cheese.
  • We loved our stay at Casitas Tenorio! The casita we stayed in was beautifully decorated and absolutely relaxing. You could tell that the casita was designed with care and attention to detail. Pip and Donald were great hosts to boot. They are so friendly and full of ideas of things to do in the area so you can be as busy as you'd like. We loved getting to know them a bit and seeing how they care for the earth in their daily lives. Our favorite part of the stay was exploring the property. There is a beautifully-maintained trail where we were able to find birds (and even a couple of sloths, with some help from one of the staff). At breakfast we were treated to an incredible array of birds converging on the feeders Pip & Donald set out. In short, our stay was a refreshing way to experience the real Costa Rica. Our only regret was not staying longer! Until next time!

  • Hotel Cacao was perfect for our needs. Rooms were large and bright. Grounds were beautiful. Juan was a great host. We will be back.

  • The hotel and surrounding area was very beautiful. But do note, it is very far from Rio Celeste. It was a $50 taxi ride round trip to get there. Also the mud baths would've been an hour and a half drive one way. So we did not go.

  • We had a wonderful time at Hotel Cacao! The grounds and building are beautiful and taken care of very well. Grace is very sweet and helpful. Juan was also very friendly and accommodating. The only problem we had was that upon our arrival we were told the $35 dollars is for a shared dorm room, and not a private room as listed on the AirBnb description. Juan apologized for the mix-up and the listing will hopefully be updated soon. Thanks for the wonderful memories :)

  • We spend 5 nice days in cacao hotel . Very quite place . We were 12 , two family of 6 , and reserve 2 bedrooms . Juan was very helpful to help us organize or trip . ( horses riffing , frog tour , tenorio park , cano negro , ring on de la viera). We can use the big and useful outdoor kitchen to prepare our lunch . The graden was beautiful with a lot of flowers and we can see many colibris and other birds. The really love our time here .

We loved our stay at Cloud 9! It was beautiful and secluded. Nelson was fantastic and waited on us the first night even though we were running quite behind.
